The neighborhood felt unsafe and I didn't feel comfortable being there at night or leaving my car there for the day. The lock box was hard to get into (the lock would not slide open like it should have when the correct code was in place). And the van was GROSS!!! The upholstery smelled like body sweat and pee. And I had ordered a dolly and none was provided in the van when I picked it up. The location also doesn't open until 10am which makes it very difficult to deal with missing equipment.

My experience was frustrating from start to finish. When I arrived for my mobile pickup, the U-Haul app repeatedly kicked me out during the check-in process. My card was charged, but I was unable to complete the pickup. After spending time troubleshooting, I had to drive about 10 minutes to a U-Haul center for assistance, where there was already a long line of customers waiting. After waiting more than 30 minutes, I was finally able to get help through the app’s chat support and was instructed to return to the original pickup location. Once I was finally able to complete the pickup, I discovered that the equipment provided was not what I had reserved. I requested an appliance dolly but was given a utility dolly instead. Fortunately, the location was open and someone there was able to contact the person responsible for the rental. However, I was then directed to drive back to the U-Haul center I had just left to exchange the equipment. The staff at the U-Haul center were helpful and completed the exchange quickly, which I appreciated. While the employees I interacted with were courteous and helpful, the app issues, incorrect equipment, and multiple trips added a significant amount of time and stress to what should have been a simple pickup process.

I’d rather walk everything I own, item by item, to the next town over than arrange ANYTHING within spitting distance of this place. They knocked 10 bucks off the truck and cut my mileage costs in half JUST to bribe me to pick up a truck from this place. “Sure, how bad could it be?” Bad. Real bad. I’d rather have paid double and picked it up in orcutt like a civilized human being. Don’t take the bait. Pick it up in orcutt.
Mathew BThe store was supposed to open at 10 AM, and no one arrived until 1045. Once she arrived, we were unable to get our keys until we called a representative at U-Haul and paid the fee, on the credit card that was already on file from the Reservation, made the prior day. Additionally, I ordered a handtruck. There wasn’t one provided with the truck. I was instructed to go pick one up at the U-Haul Store in Santa Maria, 10 miles in the opposite direction, which added 20 miles to my mileage limit. The handtruck that was provided was not a U-Haul hand truck, the tires were flat which we didn’t discover until we started loading things. When we arrived to drop off the truck, the representative told us that was not a U-Haul hand truck. An employee in Santa Maria just pawned one off that was completely unusable. I’m lucky I didn’t go over the limit, I had 8 miles available. Otherwise, the representatives on the phone were very helpful and the truck was great.
