The only improvement I can suggest for the drop-off experience is related to the app, not the return location itself. When returning a U-Haul after hours, I’d recommend allowing customers to upload return photos (fuel level and mileage) in addition to submitting them strictly through the live app flow. In my case, the app would not load properly at return, so I took photos of the fuel level and mileage on my phone as a backup. After dropping the keys in the lockbox, I tried again using a mobile browser, and this time the checkout page loaded and prompted me to capture images — but I no longer had access to the truck since the keys were already dropped. There was no option to upload the photos I had already taken. This isn’t an issue with the location or the drop box process, but rather a limitation in the app’s after-hours return workflow. Adding the ability to upload saved photos would make the process much more reliable, especially in cases of app loading issues or spotty connectivity.

The cabin and storage areas were dirty. I swept out the back and made the attendant aware. I was told I would receive a discount but never did. The trucks cold start was rough and smoked quite a bit. I rented the truck to protect things from the weather but above the wheel wells was separating from the box causing rain from the road to splash into the rear. One of the knobs that control the air was broken.
