I recently completed a long-distance one-way move from Winnipeg to Surrey, BC using a U-Haul truck, and I feel compelled to report what was without a doubt the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. Upon picking up the vehicle, I requested a walkaround inspection to check for damage and cleanliness. The attendant refused, stating that “the truck is good” and that I could “just snap some pictures if I want.” He showed no interest in following proper pre-trip inspection protocol. When I opened the vehicle, I found garbage and dirt in the cab. I did my own walkaround, saw no visible damage, and took some photos for my own protection. Unfortunately, the issues didn’t end there. After loading the trailer and leaving town, the truck began making high-pitched screaming noises while accelerating. It struggled to reach and maintain highway speed—barely making it to 100 km/h. It was clearly suffering from transmission issues. I burned nearly a quarter tank of fuel just trying to match the speed limit , and the drive became stressful, unsafe, and uncomfortable. This kind of mechanical failure on a long-distance, one-way trip is completely unacceptable. What’s even more frustrating is that when I contacted U-Haul customer service, they admitted that “this happens all the time with dealers.” That kind of response is shocking and shows a complete lack of accountability. If U-Haul is going to rely on independent dealers to represent its brand, then it must ensure they follow proper procedures, including vehicle inspections and maintenance checks. Not only was the vehicle poorly maintained, but the service at pickup was dismissive and careless. This experience made a very difficult move even more stressful and unsafe. I expect U-Haul to address this issue and improve oversight of its dealers so other customers are not put in a similar situation. I would also appreciate a follow-up and consideration for a partial refund or credit, given the condition of the vehicle and the lack of proper service.

Anmol AI would not tell them not to go there but I would not suggest that they had to either. When placed my order online I specifically marked that I did not want collision insurance. Yet when I got to the store I and they printed off the contract it had collision insurance on it. I didn't notice the that it had been added, and because I signed the contract the insurance was then added. Why would the insurance be added to the contract when my online booking declined it! Seems like a very underhanded money grab!
Brennan SThe metal bumper had ice build up and when I went to climb up to grab the handle to close the door ice slipped on the ice and messed up me leg. It swelled so much and so painful that I couldn’t do any moving anyway. On a metal bumper you think they would clear the ice.
BRENDA MI did not get the trailer I had reserved a month in advance. I had to pay extra to get a truck instead. The truck had spilled rice inside the box that I had to clean out myself.
