The app clearly needs work - I tried following the instructions and was informed during live verification that I'd need to use the website instead. The website didn't work. The entire process became highly convoluted once I got customer service involved as a result. Get it together you schmucks!

It is not easy to locate the UHaul because the sign is not clearly posted for the automobile driver to see.It is shared with a storage company. There is no clear counters reserved for both the UHaul and Storage Companies.Not organized properly. Access to the driveway was congested. Also, street parking is extremely difficult to find and the nearest parking garage is pricey if you plan to have the truck for only 4 hours or less.

I had a reservation for 2pm. When I arrived at the location the store was closed. I called and no one answers. I call U Haul corporate and they don't know what's going on. I get transferred to NY Regional U Haul, they don't know what's going on either, they tell me they will call me back. They never do. Half an hour later I call the location again and they say they are in a meeting and they will be done soon. Even though I'm outside, in freezing weather, they don't let me in. Around fifteen minutes later they let us in (by then there were a few of us with reservations waiting outside) and they finally get us going. Even though I checked in online, it took over an hour to get our truck. The staff didn't apologize, and we're just unprofessional both over the phone and in person. I'm surprised these people are employed, since any reputable location would not have such mediocre, lazy, and downright rude staff.

Only two issues happened that negatively impacted my rental experience. - I had to wait about an hour over my reservation time to pick up my truck because of the person using my truck before me (not your fault) - after I loaded the truck, the battery died and the truck wouldn't start. I purchased the extra insurance protection. I called roadside assistance and went through the process to have somebody Jump start the truck. It took 15 minutes and I was on my way. Other than those two obstacles, It was a very smooth process and recommend U-haul and the U-hal location I was previously at.

If you carefully read the reviews of a variety of U-Haul locations unfortunately you will find that the majority of them are "not rated well." The reason for this does NOT have anything to do with U-Haul's vehicles or equipment itself. Instead, it has everything to do with the INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR/FRANCHISEE. For this reason, it is sometimes worth the extra time, money and distance to go out of our way and rent from a CONTRACTOR/FRANCHISEE who will undoubtedly give you EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. The folks at Storage Fox in Long Island City (L.I.C.) Queens near the Ed Koch (59th Street / Queensborough Bridge) is the pinnacle of customer service! I initially made my reservation at a U-Haul franchise closer to where I was moving to; however; the three U-Haul franchisee's in that area scored a 2.5 star rating at best with customers complaining about service. Meanwhile, the ratings for Fox Storage U-Haul of Long Island City Queens were "off the charts." Even though it was 25 miles away from me I quickly change my reservation online and decided to take an Uber cab the day I had to pick up my rental van. When I arrived, the place, which is a public storage facility, had a very welcoming customer service counter with friendly employees in uniform and at the ready to assist you. They were professional, knowledgeable, informative and customer friendly. All I had to do was say my name, present my Driver's License and within less than 10 minutes I was in my U-Haul Van driving out of there parking lot. Although I did not need any equipment or moving items; they had everything there! On the return I dropped off the van and a "return agent" (they have a "return agent" just like at the car rental companies!!!) checked me in. Although I did not get a receipt right then there and then I already had pre-paid receipt that was earlier charged to my credit card for the number of days and estimated mileage that I had wanted. Upon checking your time and your mileage when you return you will either be credited or charged the difference and the updated receipt is emailed to you. Also, apparently you can return you vehicle off-hours as they have a drop-box. There are ONLY TWO CAVEATS (things to be careful of and keep in mind) ... 1) There is NO PARKING for customers! Therefore, if you go there in a vehicle be sure to take TWO people. One waits in the car while the other picks up the U-Haul or you can take a taxi/Uber or you can take mass transit (N or W train to Queensborough Plaza or E,F,M,R to Queens Plaza ... but then you have to walk about 4 to 5 blocks). 2) It is tricky getting out of the lot since it is a very congested area where Northern Blvd. merges with Queens Blvd. leading to the Ed Koch/Queensborough/59th Street Bridge. Other than this, this place is worth it to have the BEST U-HAUL EXPERIENCE of your LIFE! THANK YOU STORAGE FOX!!!
