when i got the truck i was told there was a full tank when i went out to the truck there was a quarter tank of fuel, when i went back inside there was noone around to let them know what was going on with the truck in spencer ma. they marked on the paperwork there was a full tank when there wasn't i spent around 100 dollars to fill the tank to get to ny. when i got to ny i left the tank at where i found it at a quarter of a tank now uhaul ripped me off for an additional 160 dollars making this move a 600 dollar trip thanks u haul you will never be used again ill tell everyone i know to use budget instead. i'm contacting a lawyer to see what my options are. very displeased with the service and will never use it again.

I was concerned at first when I noticed the confirmation had one sketchy line - "subject to availability". Needless to say, that's one way for a rental company to overbook their equipment and thus leave a customer with no truck... thankfully that did not happen in this case BUT all future customers should be aware of this potential problem.

We rented from U-Haul in Plattsburgh, NY, for our move from Montréal, QC to Houston, TX, and used a 26ft. GMC (fully loaded) truck towing an auto transporter with my Honda CRV on it. All went well from departure up to the hills of NY State, when I started to have problems with the automatic transmission; not shifting (intermittently) properly and extremely high rpm's, especially on hills. We made an unplanned stop in Erie, PA where we thought it would be a good place to get this truck into a shop. When I called for service and informed them where we were, U-haul gave me directions to get to the shop for the next morning. They were going to send a tow truck and I declined because this truck could still run at low speeds. I made it to the shop, and was out a couple of hours later: Ean Livingood and his crew were very helpful, and their shop mechanic (Matt) was very knowledgeable and took care of the problem, which turned out to be defective wiring, without much wait time. We continued our long haul all the way to our destination with no more problems. We had made plans to drive 8-9 hrs per day, and had previously made all necessary hotel reservations accordingly. Unfortunately, the truck's mechanical failure slowed us down quite a bit, but U-haul compensated us by crediting our account generously. I've been using U-haul services for quite a long time without any problems. On this last trip, when I needed their help, they took care of me in a very professional manner. Drop off location was closed when it was scheduled to be open. Also I believe that I was overcharged for the milage and gas. The fuel was right at the place on the gauge where I picked up the U-Haul and I calculated being 20 mi!es over. I will still continue to rent from U-Haul. Employee was over 45 minutes late opening up when I had made reservation at 9 am. Her excuse was they had a leak at the other facility. Highly unlikely when she wasn't sweaty, out of breath and her friends walked in 10 minutes after I got there giving her coffee and donuts. At this same location one week prior I attempted to get my stuff out of my storage unit but found it locked by management. The bill had been paid late by a few days but I always have paid it the 1st of the month for the last 3 years. I had also rented another u-haul but at a different location because it wasn't available at this location. So basically I wasted 61.00 on renting a truck in order to clear out my unit but could not. When I called on Tuesday 10/11 because they were closed Sun & Mon, the girl said that there wasn't anything they could do to recoup me the rental despite my renting another truck 7 days later. They could have at least given me a little break considering they locked my unit and FAILED to unlock it over 7 days after the bill had been paid. It shows how little they care. Just another schlepp behind a counter pretending their too busy to just DO their job. More important that her friends come and keep her company or browsing Facebook then actually know or care about what's going on around just plain doing her boring job.

The 800 number, which I was requested to call, gave very different information regarding the availability and pick up and drop off specs. This was very disconcerting as I was on hold on three occasions, three separate days, for more than 10 minutes, and on one occasion got disconnected. Once I went to the rental location, the service was very good.
