The out of town/ one-way Uhaul rental is quite a disappointing system. Uhaul cannot tell the client where or when to pickup the vehicle until one day prior, even though I scheduled a vehicle 19 days prior. I could not tell the movers when to be at my home, because I could not nail down a time. Finding out the schedule from Uhaul last minute left me options of no movers, or last minute really expensive movers, or movers sitting around doing nothing while getting paid and waiting for the truck. Additionally, the truck was not available at the location I scheduled. It required extra logistics (time to acquire the vehicle, time incidentally where the paid movers were sitting around) and extra out of pocket expenses for Uber to get me to the new pick up location 20+ miles away from the original. Uhaul did not compensate me for either. When I arrived at about 9:30 a.m. for my pick up at 10:00 a.m., I was told my 15' truck had not yet been returned and that I would have to wait until 10:00. There were 5 other 15' trucks on location but none of them are available for one-way contracts. The individual who was to return the vehicle did not show at 10:00 a.m. I was forced to wait for the vehicle or contact the scheduling department and see what else was available where ever that might be (likely not at the location I was at). That client eventually returned the vehicle around 10:20-10:30. All of these delays affected my move. I would like to be clear that the Uhaul location tried to be accommodating. They called the late client at 10:00 a.m. and they offered me an extra dolly at no charge for my troubles. The Uhaul scheduling department on the other hand was a colossal disappointment. They never called me to schedule a time or place for pick-up, I had to call them. No supervisor was on call for me to speak with. When I asked to have a supervisor call me, they said they would have someone call me. No one ever did. They were rude and unhelpful. They could not get the vehicle to my scheduled pick-up location, they could not shuttle me to the new pick-up location, they could not compensate me for my time or logistics, they did not care that I had paid movers sitting around, and they had no one who could do anything or call me about any of this. In closing, the location was friendly and helpful. The over the phone scheduling department was quite the contrary. My suggestion would be open up in-town trucks for out-of-town destinations when needed, or increase Uhaul's out-of-town truck fleet, or help the client to solve problems caused by Uhaul's scheduling process instead of merely wiping their hands of the situation and saying it's not my problem. Location rating: Above average Over-the-phone scheduling department: Poor I am conflicted, while I acknowledge the location's efforts to make a wrong situation right, the over-the-phone scheduling department has left my overall feeling to use Uhaul ever again as questionable.

Was told one price on the phone (discount because there was no trailer available in the size I wanted) and got the full price of an alternative when I arrived. Should have just got a large truck instead, would have saved money and had more space to move items.

Re drop off system was a little weird. There wasn't much verification of mileage, gas, or vehicle condition. The people were very friendly though, and I am glad I went there, and would definitely refer people to U-Haul!...thank you!...

I reserved this GMC Savana cargo van at your Santa Clara location, but when I called to confirm the reservation, I was told to pick it up at your Sunnyvale location. The distance to Sunnyvale isn't a problem. But I was forced to park my own car directly on El Camino Real, entailing the risk of break-ins, thefts, and vandalism. Santa Clara doesn't have this problem - customer vehicles can be parked inside the U-Haul yard, and need not be left on Laurelwood Drive itself. Would U-Haul consider relocating its Sunnyvale yard to a larger lot, with room for customers to leave vehicles while using rental vehicles? Otherwise, on my next U-Haul rental, I would specifically ask that the vehicle I rent be at the location at which I reserved it. Thanks for considering this. (Just for info, the GMC Savana cargo van was loaded on the auto deck of a Washington State Ferry. It was not necessary to load it into the central truck bay. Using the auto deck saved me at least fifty bucks. It was for this reason that I settled on the cargo van over the 10' box truck. Also, there was no savings in flying to Seattle and picking up a truck at SeaTac U-Haul - I broke even driving there and back in the van.) -=0=-

Horrendous experience. My reservation was moved (time and location) with out a call or text. Spent half my day driving around to the wrong locations and ended up with a small van so I had to take multiple trips - when you charge for mileage. I asked for a discount and was told I had to call the corporate office, like I had time to do that after spending my day driving to the location my original reservation was moved from. Really set back my entire moving experience.

Very good rental experience. I will rent here again. Be sure to deal directly with the employees at the physical site in Sunnyvale, CA. Be sure to get all the details of the charges, fees and insurance. Bring 2 forms of identification. Do not use the "Express Online Check-in" feature. It is a computer system designed to try and get you to spend more money and rent something more than you want. Deal with people, not computers. Keep copies of everything.
