I used this on a 2009 Chevy HHR to carry my two bikes nearly 450 miles at highway speeds. I have only made one trip with this bike carrier and it has done the job that I expected it to do. The tip down is also a nice feature so that you can access the trunk without having to remove it from the hitch. Another interesting feature of this rack is that the hitch pin is threaded which makes it difficult to remove and impossible without the proper tools. I imagine this feature is there to add more stability to the carrier and to make it more difficult for a thief to run off with your rack full of bikes. Initially, I was a little uneasy with using this because the bikes were seeming to bounce around a lot even on the smallest bumps. I was constantly looking through the rear view mirror to make sure they were still there. However, everything made it safe and sound.

Very easy to mount and put together. Be mindful of the 100lb limit defined in the instructions for this rack.

The rack works well. However, I got it mostly for myself to use without my husband's help. It is a little more difficult to attach to the hitch than I was hoping for. It's also heftier than I thought (which is a good thing, but makes it harder for me to get it on and off the van). I used it yesterday after my husband put it on the van. I was able to get the bike on and off without a problem, but should have bought the straps to go with it and strap it down better.

I think is a very sturdy product & was worth spending the money. Im very happy with the fact that you could use it for both 1 1/4 & 2 inch receiver.

What is the weight of the bike rack?

–Keith 6/10/2020 1:26:27 PM

Hi, Keith! This bike rack weighs 22.9 pounds. Thanks for asking!

–Savannah 6/19/2020 11:03:17 AM

Hi, Since the total would be under 105lbs, will this rack accommodate two bicycles, one a heavy fat tire approx. 52 lbs and other a comfort bike at under 35 lbs.? No third bike.

–Larry Mack 6/10/2020 11:16:57 AM

Hi, Larry! Unfortunately, that not only exceeds the max weight of the rack, but also of the individual bike rating. Thank you!

–Savannah 6/26/2020 3:48:01 PM

When this bike rack is installed can we still pull a trailer as well at the same time?

–Chris Lucero 6/5/2020 9:22:21 AM

Hello, Chris! You will need a Multi-Use Ball Mount to accomplish what you have described. If you need assistance identifying exactly what you need, please contact your local U-Haul Hitch Center. Thank you!

What is the carrying capacity in pounds?

–Dave Yuhas 8/18/2019 5:56:06 PM

Hi, Dave! The Swagman Trailhead 3 can hold up to 35 pounds per bike, so 105 pounds total. Thank you!

Would you be able to lock your bike?

–Linzell 8/11/2018 11:29:20 AM

Hey, Linzell! The rack itself does not include a way to lock the bikes to the rack. However, you could purchase a cable lock and use that to secure the bikes to the rack. I hope that is helpful!

Will it accommodate mountain bike tubing? Will it need an adapter for ladies' bikes?

–mario 5/29/2015 8:00:59 AM

The 63365 bike rack will fit most bike frames except for oblong or unusually large frame sizes.

The bike rack adapter part 64005 can be used with the this rack.
