Does this hitch allow backing a travel trailer in while installed or do the bars need to be removed first?

–Brent 4/22/2019 8:09:01 PM

Hello, Brent! The hitch manufacturer recommends removing the bars while backing up if the trailer angle will be more than 70 degrees in relation to the towed vehicle. I hope that is helpful!

–Savannah 5/13/2019 3:36:03 PM

My travel trailer only weighs about 3000 lbs tongue 350 lbs. Can I still use this? I like it because it has sway control. And may upgrade travel trailer later.

–Robert Clifton 3/11/2019 6:19:46 AM

Hello, Robert! CMF17500 handles up to 10,000 lbs GTW & 1,000 TW. However, it is important to take into consideration the weight capacities of your trailer hitch, as you are adding weight with the weight distribution hitch. I hope that is helpful!

–Savannah 4/16/2019 3:35:42 PM

Could this be used to tow a truck? With a 1 ton duelly.

–Jimmy 2/14/2019 8:58:38 AM

Hi, Jimmy! No, this cannot be used to tow a truck. It sounds like you need a tow bar system. Please contact your local U-Haul Hitch Center for a quote. Thank you!

Can a travel trailer be backed up with this unit on or do the bars need to be removed?

–Vinny 8/4/2018 8:48:11 AM

Hi, Vinny! Backing up the trailer with this unit is okay except for jackknife occurrences. I hope that is helpful!

I'm buying a 6,000 pound travel trailer (31 feet). Would this hitch work well for my application ? Tow vehicle is a 2014 dodge Ram 1500, 5.7 liter engine.

–Mike 7/12/2015 8:21:32 PM

The CMF17500 works well with trailers weighing up to 10,000 lbs.
