can the ball be removed when not in use
Hello Carolyn, Yes, it would require a 1-5/8" wrench or socket fits the ball nut. Thank you for your question
Can it pull a fifth wheel small trailer
Hi Rachael, Please visit our Trailer Hitches page and enter your vehicle specifications to see all available and compatible hitch models as well as compatible accessories and towing components. Thank you!
My hitch is exactly 2" wide, unlike most of the others that are 2-1/4". Is this mount exactly 2" wide?
Hello Peter, Yes, this hitch would insert into a 2inch receiver. Thank you for your question.
How much to install a receiver?
Hi, Blaine! Installation pricing will vary based on the location, so please contact your local U-Haul Hitch Center directly to get a pricing quote. Thank you!
Where is the mount and ball made?
Hello, Joe! This towing starter kit is made in China. Thank you!
What size wrench fits the ball nut?
Hello, Axp! A 1-5/8" wrench or socket fits the ball nut. Thanks for asking!
Is this starter kit for $23.95 all that is required to hook this up to our SUV or are there other added items and or costs. Can we have you hook it up for us and if so how much does that cost?
Hello, Wendy! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when purchasing a ball mount and ball:
This starter kit is rated at 6,000 lbs max GTW, however, your hitch system is only as strong as your lowest rated item. This means if your hitch is only rated at 3500 lbs, it is the weakest link and that would be your max trailer weight.
Select a ball mount that gives your towing combination a level ride - do this by following these easy steps:
Merci!
What do I have to do to rent a ball hook up
Hi, Anthony! U-Haul only offers tow ball equipment for purchase. We do not rent tow balls or mounts. Thanks for asking!
How critical is ball size? 2" versus 1 7/8" for a lightweight canoe trailer ( single canoe)
Hi, Tom! Matching the hitch ball to your trailer coupler is a very important safety measure. Be safe and have fun! Thank you!
I would like to confirm which drawbar should be used for my 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 crewcab 4X4 pickup to pull your 6X12 closed cargo trailer, the 2", or 3 1/4". Thank you for your help.
Hello, Joseph! On your vehicle, please measure from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver tube. The difference from 18” and your hitch measurement will be an appropriate drop or rise necessary for a U-Haul trailer. I hope that is helpful!
Can this mount be reversed for a rise instead of a drop?
Yes, please visit your local U-Haul Hitch Center. for assistance.
Picking up a boat for the first time. I'm estimating a 2" drop. 2 questions: 1) is it safe to pull the trailer if the drop an inch higher than perfect? 2) can I exchange after I try it for 3-1/4 if it's too high?
First try the U-Haul TOWSTART2 3-1/4" drop, if your estimate turns out to be correct then please feel free to exchange the unused 3-1/4" drop for the 2" drop.
Is the ball stainless or chrome?
The hitch ball on the TOWSTART1 is chrome.
Thanks for asking!
I guess I need a 2" ball on a hitch was that second one for $23.96
A TOWSTART1 is $23.95. As of today 10.6.14
can I get this with a 1 7/8 ball?
"Please visit your local U-Haul center, the staff there can quickly install the U-Haul 1-7/8" ball to one of our wide selection of ball mounts for you. "
Do you have a starter kit for a 1 1/4 inch receiver?
No. Sorry. We do not offer a ball mount w/Ball kit/combo that fits a 1.25" receiver.
When you install a ball and hitch what else do you need?
Our hitch pro writes: :The standard tow package consists of a receiver hitch, ball mount, ball, pin and clip, wiring harness and transmission cooler. For more information and complete pricing, please contact your local U-Haul center."
