Is this starter kit for $23.95 all that is required to hook this up to our SUV or are there other added items and or costs. Can we have you hook it up for us and if so how much does that cost?

–Wendy 8/9/2019 9:55:13 AM

Hello, Wendy! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when purchasing a ball mount and ball:

This starter kit is rated at 6,000 lbs max GTW, however, your hitch system is only as strong as your lowest rated item. This means if your hitch is only rated at 3500 lbs, it is the weakest link and that would be your max trailer weight. Select a ball mount that gives your towing combination a level ride - do this by following these easy steps:

  1. With your trailer level, measure from the ground to the bottom of your ball coupler.
  2. With your vehicle on level ground, measure from the ground to the top of the receiver tube.
  3. The difference between the two will determine the correct rise or drop needed.
Please contact or visit your local U-Haul Hitch Center for more assistance and to receive an installation quote. Thank you!

Merci!

What do I have to do to rent a ball hook up

–Anthony Martin 7/30/2018 7:28:54 PM

Hi, Anthony! U-Haul only offers tow ball equipment for purchase. We do not rent tow balls or mounts. Thanks for asking!

–Savannah 8/13/2018 7:27:28 AM

How critical is ball size? 2" versus 1 7/8" for a lightweight canoe trailer ( single canoe)

–Tom 7/28/2018 2:59:21 PM

Hi, Tom! Matching the hitch ball to your trailer coupler is a very important safety measure. Be safe and have fun! Thank you!

–Savannah 9/6/2018 7:39:06 AM

I would like to confirm which drawbar should be used for my 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 crewcab 4X4 pickup to pull your 6X12 closed cargo trailer, the 2", or 3 1/4". Thank you for your help.

–Joseph Bronson 8/27/2017 2:06:30 PM

Hello, Joseph! On your vehicle, please measure from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver tube. The difference from 18” and your hitch measurement will be an appropriate drop or rise necessary for a U-Haul trailer. I hope that is helpful!

–Savannah 9/13/2017 4:56:32 PM

Can this mount be reversed for a rise instead of a drop?

–Andrew 7/26/2016 10:26:28 PM

Yes, please visit your local U-Haul Hitch Center. for assistance.

–SAVANNAH 8/2/2016 8:12:44 AM

Picking up a boat for the first time. I'm estimating a 2" drop. 2 questions: 1) is it safe to pull the trailer if the drop an inch higher than perfect? 2) can I exchange after I try it for 3-1/4 if it's too high?

–Joe C 2/6/2016 3:58:58 PM

First try the U-Haul TOWSTART2 3-1/4" drop, if your estimate turns out to be correct then please feel free to exchange the unused 3-1/4" drop for the 2" drop.

–Joseph 2/9/2016 1:34:59 PM

Is the ball stainless or chrome?

–Jay 8/29/2015 3:43:54 PM

The hitch ball on the TOWSTART1 is chrome.

Thanks for asking!

–Joseph 9/1/2015 5:03:28 PM
