Are U-Haul propane locations self-service or does U-Haul fill the tank?

All U-Haul propane locations are full-service refill stations. This allows a certified propane professional to inspect tanks and vehicles for anything that might prohibit a safe refill. Our propane service is rooted in safety first.

Does U-Haul offer propane exchange?

Can I get my propane tank refilled today?

U-Haul sells propane from open to close, seven days a week, every day of the year except Christmas. On rare occasions, equipment is down for inspection, upgrade, or repair. Please contact your desired location to confirm that the equipment is operational today.

Does U-Haul sell propane tanks? Do they come filled? What is the price empty vs filled?

U-Haul sells brand new, ready-to-fill propane tanks online and in-store. Please check your desired location for price and availability.

If I purchase an empty propane tank, will U-Haul fill it for free?

The purchase and refill of a new tank are two separate costs, but both can be done at U-Haul.

Does U-Haul currently have propane in stock?

Each U-Haul propane location displays their propane availability online. To see if your desired location currently has propane in stock, visit the U-Haul propane home page, enter your zip code, then click on your desired location to view the available gallons and price per gallon.

Does U-Haul do propane tank inspections or re-certifications?

A certified U-Haul propane professional inspects every tank before and after every refill. We do not re-certify tanks.

Does U-Haul purge propane tanks?

How many gallons are needed to refill my propane tank?

U-Haul accepts scrap steel and aluminum tanks, from 4.5 to 100 lb. The fee is $9.95 per tank.

Just like gasoline, prices vary by region and distribution cost. U-Haul continuously works to provide you with the lowest propane cost available.

Is there a limit on how much propane can be transported?

Inside automobiles, you can transport up to four tanks with a maximum of 90 pounds of propane. In the bed of a pickup truck (or any cargo area that’s separate from the driver/passenger cab), you can transport up to 1,000 pounds of propane.

What are U-Haul's propane service hours?

• Monday through Thursday and Saturday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Friday: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Sunday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Will my RV fit at a U-Haul propane refill location?

U-Haul cannot fill expired tanks. This is illegal and unsafe. However, we carry a wide selection of propane tanks. We’ll be happy to sell you a new tank, fill it, and dispose of your expired tank.

How do I know if my propane tank is part of a recall?

It is best to call the manufacturer direct to determine if your tank is part of a recall.
