Give better customer service. I waited for rep to look at the gas tank level. The level on my ticket and the actual fuel level were different. Rep took care of two other customers that came in after I did before he took care of me.

Great experience. Had a blown fuse in my truck, so the trailer lights for the trailer i rented didn't work. Not only helped me change the fuse, but gave me the fuse free of charge as well! Would recommend!

I've been renting uhaul trucks from this location for years and have always received excellent customer service. Although this location is a little out of my way I have never been turned away due to lack of trucks and have never had an issue with rental charges. I will always rent my uhaul trucks from this location and highly recommend this establishment.

I wouldn't discourage a friend from renting here, but would not promote the location. My truck was checked in over a day and a half later than returned and I was therefore charged an extra day. I called to rectify the situation and was told that I had to physically come into the rental location again to take care of a $19 charge, rather than the gentleman taking care of it immediately. While the staff was friendly and truck was brand new, I might find a competitor next time.

I watched as the owner/operator was blatantly racist to 3 gentlemen in front of me. There was a communication breakdown when the owner behind the counter claimed he could not understand the customers. He ask multiple times, 'what are y'all? Japs? Chinese? What?' He tried to send them down the street to 'talk to those Indian guys at the gas station, maybe they will understand y'all' The owner then went on to threaten to call the cops when the customers insisted on working through their differences, pleading to the owner that they needed the truck today. I was 10 feet away and could understand every word each of the three gentlemen were saying. It is my belief that the owner was simply choosing to be uncooperative and racist. No one has the right to treat customers the way this owner was treating these three gentlemen. I was horrified and embarrassed by the entire event. This jerk has certainly lost me as a customer, and turned me off of the entire uhaul organization.

The owner/manager had several issues. He interrupted us while we were talking or asking a question to mumble an answer at us; he chainsmoked making the building terribly smelly; when we returned the vehicle he mumbled at us and then started a vacuum - leaving us to go look for another worker in the parking lot to help us; AND worst of all - he had a wonderful dog that was friendly and he used an air horn as a training tool that scared the crap out of us. If he didn't want the dog to approach customers (totally friendly) he should leave the dog at home or kenneled. We won't be going back there.

U-Haul may be a good company but the owner that runs 1710 Monticello Rd., Charlottesville location does not deserve the franchise! The corporate headquarters would be making a good business decision to drop this guy’s account. With no other customer in the store, the owner rudely refused to walk out to the truck to answer my questions about damage that wasn’t marked, too many to fit on the paper he gave me. So, I took time-stamped photos on my phone of everything, including gas and mileage before and after. A few days later, I noticed I was over charged $43.00 for the 7 miles I used the truck. When I called, the owner was rude, denied my claim, made excuses and then hung up on me when I started sounding upset. I logged on to write a review and was not surprised by the many other negative reviews of this store and owner. As others have mentioned, the place stinks of smoke, is cluttered with stuffed dead animals, a few miscellaneous tackle items for fishing and an old, nearly empty, glass counter with a few guns on display – it’s like a dying tackle/gun shop - almost out of business if it wasn’t for rentals. (I wish it was!) Nothing about this place is inviting and then…you have to deal with the owner behind the counter! I can barely add any more words about the owner that others haven’t already stated in these reviews: “Agent/Franchisee/Bait Shop owner very curt and surly,” “attitude was horrible,” “never ever experienced such a bad U-Haul person,” “rude and irritated when customers ask for the smallest thing,” “the owner treats you terrible. Rude, disrespectful and full of smoke,” “Would have appreciated the U-Haul person helping to get the trailer onto the hitch and not telling me to do it,” “was rude and carried an accusatory tone,” “inconsiderate and frustrating” “dude behind the register is rude,” “never ever experienced such a bad U-Haul person EVER,” and “PLUS his attitude was horrible.” That’s a big list of words! This wasn’t the first time I dealt with this owner (last time, he was cracking racial jokes on the phone with someone) but….this was the last time I’ll ever step in that store again unless it changes owners. How long is U-Haul going to put up with an owner that get’s comments like these above? I recommend cutting your losses now and getting an owner that respects people and understands what common customer service means. I suggest to anyone looking for a truck, to drive a mile up the road to the Meade Ave store. It’s worth paying the extra mileage to avoid this store and the owner!! I’m posting this on my Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Yelp.com as well.
