Community Involvement

U-Haul enriches the communities in which we do business by assisting charitable organizations that address the most basic human needs: food, clothing and shelter. This has long been the scope of our community outreach because we view residential mobility as a basic need for every family, and work to keep costs low to meet that need.

Founded by a WWII Navy veteran and his wife in 1945, U-Haul is a proud supporter of many military and veteran groups and causes that provide for these basic needs.

In the Community

U-Haul partners with like-minded organizations in the community and offers assistance through volunteer efforts and in-kind donations. We have many longstanding charity partners in and around Phoenix, where U-Haul is headquartered, and we are the national sponsor of Humble Design, a group that brings dignity to families and veterans escaping homelessness through donated furnishings and design services.

Disaster Relief Assistance

U-Haul is an official American Red Cross Disaster Responder and makes its fleet that is not being used by customers available to the Red Cross in times of crisis. Additionally, we often extend our 30 days free self-storage relief program to those impacted by local disasters. Designated facilities with self-storage vacancy regularly make this goodwill offer available. Please check uhaul.com or myuhaulstory.com for participating facilities.

Disaster Relief Assistance Requests

We receive many requests for equipment donations and discounts from kindhearted individuals and organizations seeking to deliver aid to impacted areas. While we would like to contribute to individual efforts, we know our Company resources are best utilized through the disaster relief partnerships and programs that we have in place specifically for these events.

As an expert in the field, the Red Cross knows how to coordinate the use of U-Haul equipment through its communications with local officials and based on the needs of those affected.

If you are associated with the Red Cross or another U-Haul charity partner and wish to contact us, email publicrelations@uhaul.com. If you need to contact the Red Cross, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-733-2767. Thank you.

Donation Requests

Requests from non-profit organizations must be emailed to donations@uhaul.com several weeks prior to the event and need. Mandatory written submissions should provide event and need details, the group's service objectives, and 501(c)3 documentation for tax purposes. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please note that additional weeks are needed for processing requests during holiday seasons and other high-volume periods.

Approved nonprofits are eligible for in-kind assistance toward the cost of an equipment rental at a U-Haul-owned and -operated center once every 52 weeks. Monetary and self-storage donations are outside the scope of our offerings. Given the volume of requests U-Haul receives, consideration is limited to 501(c)3 organizations.
