Veteran Support

U-Haul thanks our veterans for their service and sacrifice. Without them, we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today. U-Haul maintains longstanding partnerships with veteran and military nonprofits to honor and support these heroes. Some of our partners include: Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans; Humble Design; Marine Corps Marathon; Pat Tillman Foundation; Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum; Run For The Fallen; Spirit of '45; Tribute Journey; Tunnel To Towers Foundation; US Vets Phoenix; USO; Vietnam Veterans of America; national and local Veterans Day and Memorial Day parades; and many others.

U-Haul: A Military-Friendly Employer

Every year, U-Haul is ranked by multiple publications as a leading military-friendly company and top U.S. veteran employer. This is because we actively recruit vets to join our workforce and give them preference in the hiring process. The Military Times regularly honors U-Haul on its "Best for Vets" rankings – doing so again in 2023. Find their annual list at bestforvets.militarytimes.com.

Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving. U-Haul co-founders L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized the need.

U-Haul supports the efforts of local communities to preserve their past through the company's "Commemorative" SuperGraphics.

U-Haul unveiled its first "Commemorative" SuperGraphics during the Veteran's Day parades in New York and Phoenix, on Nov. 11, 2004. The graphics pay tribute to the U.S. armed forces.

"U-Haul has been imaging its moving trucks and trailers with vibrant graphics featuring distinctive icons of every U.S. state and Canadian province since 1988," explained John "J.T." Taylor, president of U-Haul International. "Many of our SuperGraphics give tribute to significant events, anniversaries and preserved historical sites."
