Mike LeTendre has been the location manager since Ampride opened 28 years ago. The Slayton branch is part of the Prairie Pride Co-op, a cooperative and privately owned oil company. Prairie Pride (website: http://www.prairiepridecoop.com/home.html) dates back to 1924.
LeTendre purchased the convenience store and gas station in 1987. He attended Minnesota West Community and Technical College and studied business management and electrician services. He has served the Slayton Fire Department for 23 years.
Slayton’s 2,100-plus residents had to drive to Worthington or Pipestone for U-Haul equipment prior to Ampride’s inclusion in the U-Haul dealer network. Residents can now transport items and have their packing needs met without leaving the community.
