U-Haul to Announce Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities of 2014 via Twitter

PHOENIX (May 26, 2015) – So you think you live in a “destination” city?

There are only two ways to be certain: follow every orange-clad U-Haul moving truck to see where it goes, or simply follow @uhaul on Twitter as we count down the Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities of 2014.

U-Haul International, Inc., the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, will release its annual migration trends report over the next 10 days.

Beginning today, U-Haul will announce via Twitter one city each day until the No. 1 destination is unveiled June 4. Links will direct readers to myuhaulstory.com, where statistical data, interactive infographics, city-specific moving tips, comments from local U-Haul officials and community leaders, and much more can be found.

“The Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities countdown offers people a way to interact with us on social media as we pay tribute to the great cities that are welcoming a large number of do-it-yourself movers,” U-Haul president J.T. Taylor said.

“U-Haul migration data is among the most sought-after information we release. Through our new online city packages, we’re now able to announce this news and highlight these popular destinations like never before.”

The release of our migration data coincides with Memorial Day, the unofficial start of U-Haul Moving Season, which sees thousands of people changing addresses and embarking on adventures during the summer months with the aid of U-Haul.

The Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities reflect destinations for one-way U-Haul truck rentals for the previous calendar year. While this data doesn’t necessarily reflect a city’s growth, it is a strong indicator of how well a city is attracting new residents.

The migration trends report was compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions that occurred in 2014.

Falling just outside the Top 10 were: 11. Columbus (Ohio) 12. Charlotte 13. Phoenix 14. Jacksonville 15. Tampa 16. New York City 17. San Diego 18. Dallas 19. Bronx 20. St. Louis 21. Indianapolis 22. Tucson 23. Fort Worth 24. Columbia (S.C.) 25. Nashville.

U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The geographical coverage from 17,000-plus U-Haul neighborhood dealers and 1,540 U-Haul stores offers a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry.
