Waldwick’s Franklin Auto Care Offers U-Haul at Historic Location

WALDWICK, N.J. (April 3, 2015) – When the U-Haul® neighborhood dealer across the street closed, the Wanamaker family decided to make sure Waldwick still had a place to rent moving equipment from the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage.

The Wanamakers have been in the automotive repair business for 45 years. Chuck Wanamaker Jr. recently opened a second shop about a mile from the original Waldwick Auto Service Center.

The new shop, Franklin Auto Care at 172 Franklin Turnpike, resides in a dual repair shop-gas station that has been around for 75 years. Franklin Auto Care is now a proud home to U-Haul trucks and cargo vans, towing equipment, rental support items and boxes.

“So far we’ve been trucking along nicely,” Wanamaker said.

“People seem to transport a lot of furniture,” added Ken Meyer, manager at Franklin Auto Care. “Especially during the holidays, we’ve noticed a lot of Ikea® furniture being moved around in (U-Haul equipment).”

Meyer said the building itself brings in a lot of business. Locals know it and have been going to the same place for gas and repairs for generations, so that has produced a solid customer base for Franklin Auto Care.

Wanamaker and Meyer have been friends for over 10 years. Meyer always brought his cars and trucks into Waldwick Auto Service Center. When Franklin Auto Care opened, Meyer was the first choice to manage the spin-off company.

“We’re known for quality repairs, fair prices, and we go the extra mile,” explained Meyer, who will drop off and pick up customers when their vehicles require major repairs.

Wanamaker is clearly in the career field he loves. In his spare time, he takes one of his beautiful hotrods out for a spin.

“I keep buying and buying them,” Wanamaker said. “I like to take them out on an average Sunday drive for some ice cream or when we go out to dinner.”

U-Haul and Franklin Auto Care are striving to benefit the environment through sustainability initiatives. Truck sharing is a core U-Haul sustainability business practice that allows individuals to access a fleet of trucks that is larger than what they could access on an individual basis.

Every U-Haul truck placed in a community helps keep 19 personally owned large-capacity vehicles, pickups, SUVs and vans off the road. Fewer vehicles means less traffic congestion, less pollution, less fuel burned and cleaner air.

Franklin Auto Care is a great place to become U-Haul Famous. Take your picture in front of a U-Haul product and your face could land on the side of a U-Haul truck. Upload your photo through Instagram using #uhaulfamous, or go to www.uhaulfamous.com to submit your photos and learn more.
