While the 15' truck I rented was very clean, it is my opinion the truck didn't run very well. I was concerned it might give up on me but I was local and wasn't worried because I purchased the insurance. It felt like the transmission was dragging or like I was driving with the emergency brake or tow on and I wasn't. The padlock was an extra bonus I had not thought about. Valerie goes above and beyond every time I go in and she is always a pleasure to deal with.

Better maintenance and newer equipment would be an improvement. Cargo area was dirty and cluttered, side mirrors were loose, fuel tank was nearly empty. $19.95 is a joke! You need to move the decimal one place to the right to accurately advertise your product. False advertising!

Cashier with 6 people in line buying gas, groceries etc. took a lot longer that with other truck rental companies. Bad experience, changed my location three times in 2days... Moving is stressful and very time sensitive, when I spoke to managers 3 times, I never even received an " Im sorry about this " CMON ! I happened to look at my emails 1/2 hr before Pickup reservation at location close to where I as staying so I could walk to pick up the truck, BUT BEHOLD, I now have have to go into the city of Wilmington, De to get my truck. No Phone call, an email??? HOW MANY people are looking at their computers on the same day when they are renting a moving truck with furniture and boxes.... WHO ? I called and asked the haul manager, in a very sweet tone, Was there a way they could drive the truck to my original location since I didn't a car and was told, and I quote "THAT AINT GONNA HAPPEN "so I got an uber to meet the slow nasty clerk at the BP in Wilmington...

I requested a truck close to my house, friday before pickup they change the site all the way in the inner city. 8 mile difference which increased my bill. 2nd the truck was on empty, the person did not go out and check. She was the only person at the gas station and it took her 45 minutes to get me checked in due to fact she kept stopping and waiting on customers as they came in the store. It was a terrible experience.

I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of the vehicle but I was in a rush with no time to complain or exchange. I was also charged for someone else mess that I mentioned in the notes. I was very upset with the services i received, the truck was filthy dirty, blunt guts, cigarettes, trash,food, was all over my truck, I informed the lady at the counter about the appearance of the truck " she said it wasn't a big deal " and told me to take it any way. If I had not really needed the truck I would returned it and got my money back ! This was absolutely unacceptable!!! Then got the nerve to charge someone $500!!! Ridiculous! Then they gears were sticking as if the transmission was going to go any second ! Something needs to be done a loud this location !!! Someone had even smoked some white powder shit in the truck ! Has our stuff smelling HORRIBLE !! I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone ! But I can say upon return of my truck Val was very helpful and understanding of my frustrations

The woman working was extremely rude during both transactions at pickup and drop off. Poor customer service - friendliness goes a long way. The U-Haul itself was fine but will choose a different location in the future due to the interaction with the staff.

This is a poor excuse for a UHaul provider. I was disgusted. I reserved furniture Dollies by none where th wee. I paid for another dollie but it was never provided and my husband had to return to the location. The worked constantly left us standing there while she waited on convenience store customers and I was supposed to get mobile pick up!! It was a nightmare. I was asked to go into the parking lot and remove the lock and bring it back to her in the office. Worst rental location in my life.

I had made a online reservation on 3/9/24 for a 15 foot truck along with two different types of dollies in preparation of the move and retrieval off the truck no call or no information was provided to inform me that no dollies would be issued or provided because they didn’t have any and was told that I can go to any location at U-Haul and they would just give me a dolly but unfortunately, that was not true. I had search for a number of different U-Haul’s at that time and only one location at Martin Luther King Blvd only have one dolly and had to wait over an hour just to be charged around seven dollars and they had debited me 30 days out when originally I was debited received a receipt about it. Notice the pending transaction and the U-Haul that I had ordered. I believe it was a 10 foot truck versus a 15 I had to call customer service. They had explain to me that I had debris in the back of the truck that I can get pictures of of the main Office and that’s why I was charged an additional $10 fee with actually receiving a 14 foot truck. This was a huge inconvenience during the move when you can’t just not have the proper equipment it is poor customer service to not tell anyone that you don’t have equipment to provide them of a day of a move, which allowed me to have the U-Haul longer because I only needed it but reserved it for a total of eight hours used it for five which could’ve caught the cost of time and money in half this is all thanks to the BP at 3421 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware location.

It took 2 hours to pickup the truck! I arrived at noon, as I was told, but didn't have the truck until 2 pm! The employee seemed uninformed. When neither my phone nor my friend's allowed us to access and upload my driver's license, she had no suggestions about how to proceed (except to ask a stranger to do it for me if that customer's phone happened to work as ours did not). The employee told us, several times that the recommended procedure "worked for everyone". When my friend told her that repeating that phrase implied that we were not people, since it didn't work for us, she did stop using that phrase. She did not suggest we try downloading the uhaul app to upload the license. She could not tell me where the closest wifi was available so my phone without a data plan could upload the photo. It was very frustrating, in part because she was the only person working, so every time someone wanted to buy a lottery ticket or a pack of chips or cigarettes, I had to wait again. Also the lock on the back of the truck was very stiff, so it took me several minutes of resetting the combination, jiggling the lock, and swearing to get it off. She did not explain that I had to return the truck by 1:30 on the return date to avoid an additional fee. She did not mention that the phone number she told me to call to find out where to return the truck would not be answered after 7 pm, and was not a Delaware area number, so I had to talk to someone else. She did not mention that if I did not scrub down the cab of the truck I would be charged a $25 cleaning fee, even though I swept out both the back and front of the truck. Since I was there for so long, she had time to tell me. She did email the contract, which I could not view without a data plan.

This location does fraudulent transactions and add on charges. I read the reviews, was warned against using them and deliberately placed my reservation with Brian at the 2909 Lancaster Ave Wilmington DE location only to have it transferred to this fraudster the day of pick up. I only found out about this transfer when I called Brian that morning to ensure the truck would be ready and told they did not have a truck and the reservation had been transferred to the 400 MLK location. I was very unhappy about this change and the lack of notification until the last moment leaving me with no choice but to deal with these apparent scammers. After initially denying she had a truck available despite the "Traffic" representative insisting she did, "Appy", the woman who represents this location finally relented and agreed there was a truck available. On the phone and upon arrival, she glossed over any of my questions, especially regarding charges telling me "everything will be in your receipt". After specifically being told that I did not want the insurance (Safe Move) and asking about charges for fuel she responded they are a gas station so no need to worry about the gas, and she then charged me for the insurance and instead of their $3.19/gal. pump price, charged me $4.75/gal. "per the contract". She was unable/unwilling to print out the contract before hand (it will be in your email) or the receipt, I had to enlarge a screenshot of it from the app to see what she had done. This reflects badly on UHaul and I made that clear when I made a formal complaint with MaryEllen at the 800 468-4285 customer care line. It appears there are multiple business of (legit and semi-legit) being run from this gas station/ghetto bodega and renting UHaul trucks seems to be an after thought and an opportunity to scam those who rent from them for extra fees and charges with little if any need to provide servicing or attention. Based on my experience and other online reviews, I hope that UHaul would up their standards and delete this location if only to protect its reputation. Meanwhile, to its credit, UHaul (MaryEllen) has refunded me the insurance charge and I am hoping they will do the right thing and adjust the cost of the fuel. I sincerely hope my feedback has some impact.

I couldn’t get my reserved vehicle until two hours after the scheduled time because there was only one person there who didn’t know what to do with uhaul rentals. The person who usually handles them slept in so we all stood around waiting on her. The vehicle was horribly dirty inside and out, clearly had not been cleaned or checked since the last reservation. I had to dispute a cleaning charge because of this.
