Smoother pickup and dropoff and no parking available on site when renting a pick up

Person working inside gas station did not know how to help us when we were trying to pick up our cargo van. I did not request the 24/7 app pick up, but received an email and text from U-Haul the morning of pick up to get our van using this. We experienced issues with the GPS on my phone showing that we were at the wrong location, even though we were where I reserved the van. The app would not let us continue with rental due to this. After a few phone calls we were able to resolve the issue and finish the rental process well after our designated pick up time. I shared this with a U-Haul rep over the phone and was told that our return time the next day would be extended to the time that we actually got to drive the vehicle on pick up day. However, this did not happen and when I called U-Haul AGAIN to resolve this, I was told there was no information noted about us having a difficult time with pick up and our return time being extended. When we were able to get in the van, we discovered how dirty it was... It was REALLY dirty in the cab area and in the back. There was dirt all over the floor in both areas, crumbs in the seat, candy wrappers, sticky residue in the drink holders, and dust and dirt all over the dash. We didn't feel like we could put anything down in the van until we cleaned it. Also, there was an excessive amount of bird droppings on the front hood and windshield and the windshield wiper fluid was low, so I couldn't clean the windshield properly. Finally, the furniture blankets/pads and dolly I reserved and paid for were not in the van and not available. Overall, we had a very disappointing experience with U-Haul and it greatly added to our stress on moving day.

The truck had bird poop all over especially the windshield when I picked up. When returning, the app asked me if the truck was clean. I attempted to enter that it had bird poop all over and it tried to charge me a $25 fee for cleaning. I can see how this can screw someone over for attempting to be informative and helpful.
