Hi, We originally had a 5x8 trailer scheduled for pickup on Thursday, July 31. After filling out the paperwork, upon connecting our suv to the trailer, the clerk told us our electrical connection was bad and she couldn't rent the trailer to us until it was fixed. We let that evening scrambling to get it fixed so we could pick the the trailer the next morning for our son's wedding. My husband went home and checked the wires then drove to the UHaul dealership down the road from us that was open later. They connected it to another trailer and it worked. Friday morning we went back to the dealership and she reconnected it again and told us again that it didn't work. She then connected it to another trailer and it did work! That whole situation was so stressful. We had rented the trailer for pick-up on Thursday night to avoid stress for the day of our son's wedding. While the clerk was polite and pleasant, I would highly recommend that either the staff be better trained on how to tell if your electrical is at fault. In addition, it seems as if regular checks should be made on your equipment so that this situation does not occur with another customer. I would hope that you reply to this email with something other than a cursory apology for all of the stress and problems it caused us.
CHERYL AI have talked with the manager David twice now about my bill and the overcharges for my rental (contract #82030314) and have gotten nowhere. I asked him to pass my "case" on to someone at a higher level and have them call me back on Monday, 7/28/25 and he said I'd get a call withing 72 hours. Tomorrow will be one week and I have not rec'd a call to this point. I talked to him again about the issues I had with the bill again on Friday (8/1/25) and the fact that I had not rec'd a call, and basically got nowhere once again. He said they (U-Haul mgt.) should be calling. Please have a U-Haul manager call me ASAP @ 248-207-6961 tomorrow, Monday 8/4/25 so I can get my billing overcharges corrected. A quick summary: - I picked up my rental on Friday, 7/25 @ 4:29 PM. It was supposed to be a one way rental from Livonia, MI to Grand Rapids, MI. I was billed $212.05 to my Mastercard. This included insurance, blankets and 162 miles. - I had a change in my plans midway through the moving in Grand Rapids and called the Livonia U-Haul to ask them what to do, but essentially I needed to make it a round trip, and return the U-Haul to Livonia on Sunday by 4:29 PM (48 hours). I asked if there would be any changes to the contract, and the lady told me no, I should be good. She DID NOT mention anything about it going to an "In Town Rate" at that time. - I returned the vehicle at roughly 4:29 PM on Sunday, 7/27. The Livonia U-Haul was closed at the time. - Monday, 7/28 I rec'd my bill and it included $370-.44 of addl. charges billed to my Mastercard, bringing my total charges to $582.49 for a 48 hour 15 foot U-Haul rental, a huge amount. - I talked with the manager David later on Monday and he told me he had checked my vehicle in. The following is a summary of the overcharges that he repeatedly justified, and would not listen to anything I had to say: - #1 - my contract had become an "in town rate" vs. the $212.05 one-way rate I initially had. He said I had to pay $1 per mile extra because of this. I told him that his clerk did not say ANYTHING about this when I called on Saturday. I also asked why I had to pay the $212.05 which included 162 miles and then pay $1 / mile for those same miles all over again. So, two issues here, lack of communication from the U-Haul clerk on the contract change, and "double dipping" on 162 miles of the gas. - #2 - David also said he put me down for a 6:00 PM return, which resulted in an extra day charge, plus an addl. day on insurance and the blankets. I returned the vehicle right around 4:29 PM (48 hours) as my wife picked my up and she confirmed the time. If you folks have cameras on site, which you should, you need to check them. The Livonia U-Haul center was closed for the day when I returned the vehicle. - #3 - David also charged me on two gas charges, a fuel service fee of $30 and a fuel charge or $29.84 for 5 gallons of gas. The clerk at the time of pick up said the vehicle had 1/4 tank (which it did when I drove off) and to please return it at that level. I did not look at the contract sheet in my paperwork which had the mark 1/8th above a 1/4 tank, and that make was incorrect. I returned it at 1/4 tank and David put the return mark 1/8 of a tank below the 1/4 tank line, therefore making me off 2/8ths or a 1/4 tank. That is NOT CORRECT. I returned the vehicle with a 1/4 tank of gas, just like it was when I left the Livonia, MI U-Haul site. To summarize, I expect something to be done with at least some of these OVERCHARGES. I have used U-Haul about 1X / year for he last 7 years moving my kids back and forth from the Detroit area to Western Michigan for their college years, and I have never had an experience like this one. It seems to me David is Hell-bent on making money and trying to find every corner to take to make this happen, and at my expense in this case. He is very unwilling to have a conversation or listen to my point of very, he gets agitated and is not able to engage in proper customer service dialog. THOMAS MThe uhaul that I rented died on me partially through the drive. I was stranded on the side of the road for an hour with a full truck and moving help waiting at my destination. The truck then sat at my destination for 4 days, without a word from Uhaul. I was told multiple times that I would get a call from the area manager, and did not receive any communication.

ANTHONY PMaybe… Should be one of the options for if I would recommend U-Haul to a friend. The check engine light was illuminated on the truck issued to me. I immediately notified the employee. I was disappointed and concerned the truck might have issues during my trip. They said it was just a sensor light. I was worried driving the truck. Although there were no issues, I should’ve been given at least a discount seeing that I had concerns for the safety of the truck. Moving is stressful enough without adding more stress for concerns over the rental truck. The employees were cordial. Your equipment should be in excellent condition. That is what I expected when renting from U-Haul.

I hated that damn thing. I will never rent anything from that location. There were better vehicles there, my bad luck to get this piece of crap!

The issue I had was I got to the counter and the lady said they’re systems were down , didn’t tell me anything else , so I asked can I do it online my self , she said “o yeah” so I went on the website filled everything out and it didn’t work so I had to download the app then do the whole process again from the app with 0 help from the lady at the counter , overall I’d give them place anther chance but just be prepared
CALVIN FEveryone at the location was friendly and everything was clean. The only reason why I wouldn't recommend this to a friend is that Uhaul has WAY too many hidden fees. The price I was quoted online was around $45 and I ended up paying $74. Too much to rent a truck. Too bad they weren't honest about the price. I will never go back.

Harold CI returned my uhaul truck a day early and didn't get compensated for it. And why in the hell would you not fill the truck up to full. I received it at 5/8 full. I did not like that at all.
Joseph WI honestly would like some of my money back for my last transaction with uhaul. Due to bad renters they did not have a cargo van available and they had a 10 food box truck which cast me double in gas to drive to grand rapids and back and it was highly uncomfortable for me in the driver's seat of that truck.My reservation was for 10 am i did not get the truck until 2:30 after they had me come I at 1:30 and cargo van was still not available. The equipment has ashes on the cup holder and ashes on the drivers side door windowsill where someone put their cigarettes out, on or just ashed on. not their fault but could have been cleaned.

Tyler PThe van was mostly clean. There was a lighter left in the cab. The AC didn’t work. Also the fuel gauge got stuck. I gassed the van and the needle hardly moved so I put in some more and it leaped forward. $5 of gas I didn’t need to put in. On a positive note: the rental facility is clean and the staff are friendly.

Everything is indoors and you just pull into the loading area, with the access code, so you don’t have to worry about inclement weather. You have access beyond office hours, too. We had to have temporary storage while looking for a house and when we moved, our things weren’t covered with dust or dirt that you might find with an outdoor facility. Will recommend to everyone who needs a storage unit.
