Good afternoon Uhaul, Yesterday (8/2/21) I picked up a 15 ft. rental truck from Plaza Sales & Service in St. Charles MO (1805 Veterans Memorial Pkwy. St. Charles MO, 63303). My reference number was 20740957. I have used this service many times before as I have bounced around the St. Louis area over the past few years. With that being said, I have never had a bad experience until yesterday. Unfortunately, I am not sure it is a UHAUL issue or instead the pickup location's issue as I have never met or had to deal with someone more unpleasant and unprofessional than one of the mechanics named Doug. The reservation pickup started as usual. I like to do it by phone because 1.) it is available to me and 2.) it tends to be a bit easier and very user friendly. I got to the point of needing to go and retrieve the key which is also normal. This is where things began to take a turn. First off, there was nobody in the office to help me. I waited roughly 20 minutes in and out of the office to see if someone was going to come in and help me or simply notice me. Nobody seemed to care that I was pacing around the parking lot and moving in and out of the office even though three different people clearly saw me. Finally, I got a mechanic named Doug to make eye contact with me. He was working on a vehicle and noticed me outside of the shop doors. I asked what I thought was a relatively simple question. "I am here to pick up a UHAUL. Am I in the right place?" He responded as if he did not want to deal with me by answering "Do you even have a reservation?" Catching me off guard by his attitude, I responded "Yes, I just need to retrieve the key." Doug then turned and continued working on the car for at least another 5 minutes. I got frustrated at this point as I have had my family waiting at my apartment to move out and I am now 25 minutes late. I looked for someone else to help me as the office was still empty and clearly Doug was not in any mood to help me, or I thought maybe I was talking to the wrong person. Finally, Doug came into his office, where I had been waiting the entire time, and asked what I needed help with. I reiterated again that I simply needed to pick up the UHAUL. He began going through his computer and asked for my name. I gave it to him and he quickly responded that it shows that I had already picked it up. I then explained and showed him my phone that said that I needed to go and retrieve the key. This is where I got very upset as Doug proceeded to ask why I would do the online check in on my phone when the shop was open. He denouced me as stupid and could not understand why I would do the online pickup when I could have simply come in and checked in there. Taken back, I really did not know how to respond. I said I was just following the steps on the app and got to the step where I needed to get the key. Doug then responded, "Well I am not going to tell you where the key is." At this point, I was ready to leave and just take my loss as Doug had not only ruined my experience but treated me as if I was some idiot kid who didn't know what I was doing. He then left the office. He returned about 3 minutes later with the key, but did not hand it over as if he was guarding it from me. He walked over to the UHAULs and asked if I was leaving a car. I responded "yes," and he asked which one and where it was parked, as if he was scoping it out. Finally, he just reached out and handed me the keys without saying anything and I was on my way with the remainder of the app's reservation process. First off, I understand that I am relatively young compared to Doug, but I was simply trying to get my reservation squared away and was simply following the app's steps. I have done this countless times and never had a bad experience, thus the reason why I continue to use the service. Never once did I think I would be treated in such a way that felt as though I was inferior and stupid for simply following the steps. As a matter of fact, I thought I was doing the business a good service as I was eliminating a lot of the steps that they would have to do if I did not use the mobile check-in. Not only that but I had essentially been verbally abused which was the sole reason for me being 30 minutes late leaving the UHAUL pickup store. Overall, this was one of the most embarrassing and intimidating experiences I have ever had. I was initially set to have the UHAUL 24 hours, but elected to return it around 10:30 pm last night (8/2) just because I did not want to have to deal with Doug again. I am not normally one to complain or even write reviews. I even consider myself a very polite and courteous customer in these situations. However, for some reason yesterday my polite and courteous demeanor was met with angst and verbal abuse. I simply wanted to share this story with you as it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I know they are an outsourced supplier for UHAUL, but felt the need to contact you as they are representing your brand. Please let me know if this will gain more traction or have more gravity if I reach out to the location itself. thanks, PatrickPatrick H.

The truck back door was stuck in the upright position from the latch not working properly, The truck cab was not wiped out before use (cup holders or dash), and the dolly seal was broken when picked up truck did not use dolly.Eric W.

the person that care for me was quiet and to the task of renting the truck. Did Allin good amount of time and out the door with truck.... The box of the truck was clean and all the tie downs were in place to make sure nothing moved around.. That was the first time for me that that happened!!!!!!!! Great!!!! JIM BERRY. The truck would not allow us to increase the rpms to achieve better gas mileage and would cough and sputter while on the highways. These problems was brought to the agents attention when we returned the vehicle this morning. We used extra gas for this reasonalbert S.

You could start by hiring people that know what they are doing. I rented a 15 foot truck with a dolly one way to another town. The confirmation I got sent the day before was all wrong and it took me 20 minutes to get the guy I was talking to to understand what was wrong with my reservation. And then he still didn't correct the problem. When my husband got there they couldn't even find our reservation and sent him to another location because they didn't have the truck. When he got to the other location there was no appliance dolly. Then when he got home and loaded up the truck he then couldn't get the back door shut. It was jammed open and got told it happens all the time. He had to wait over and hour and half for someone to come and just before they arrived he finally arrived. It was a disaster throughout the whole procedure. You should never rent a truck that doesn't work when you know it. And you really need your customer service reps be knowledgeable enough to understand how to make a reservation or fix one. We just rented a truck from the same location a few weeks ago and experienced a lot of problems when they rented us a 10 foot truck telling me it would fit a refrigerator but we had to lay the refrigerator on its back and you neglected to tell me it wouldn't come with a ramp. It took four strong men to pick it up and get it in the truck. Fortunately for us the people we bought the refrigerator from helped us or we would have been stuck. Terrible terrible service from you and if there was any other company to rent from I would never come to you again. You can not have the mechanic / front desk person work both roles, the black gunk on his hands and finger nails, appeared on my paper work and card. This location is attached to a used car a lot, no signage, the smart a$$ car sales almost made me address him unprofessionally.Jeff W.

Truck dirty. Had to drive to two locations to pick up truck and tow dolly. Took more than an hour to get the two locations closer than the original pickup that would have taken over an hour to pick up. And drop off location was bankrupt and closed. Had to wait an hour to find out where to drop off. Parked at dilapidated building. Ended up dropping off even farther away from our new home.Jeffrey S.
It took over 30 minutes until I was approved and when I was it told me to go inside to get the key. When I went inside to get the key the employee there had no clue what I was talking about when I ask for my truck key. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM UHAUL AGAIN. THEY SNEAK IN A GAS CHARGE, I DROVE 62.7 MILES, USED A 1/4 TANK OF GAS AND IT COST ME $67.10. I HAD TO TAKE PICTURE AFTER PICTURE TO PICK-UP/RETURN THE VEHICLE, PROVIDE NUMBER AFTER NUMBER SO SOMEONE COULD VERIFY AN ALTERNATE CONTACT, AFTER TAKING A PICTURE OF MYSELF AND MY LICENSE FRONT AND BACK. CALLED TO ASK ABOUT IT AND THE PERSON WAS RUDE AND HUNG UP ON ME AFTER I SAID THIS IS A CROCK OF SH*T. NEVER AGAIN!!Matthew S.

I used the App to sign up for a rental (@6pm), like y'all suggested over the phone. A few hours before my appointment, you told me the truck I needed wasn't available for the time I selected . Upon my arrival, y'all tried up-charging me for wanting to keep the truck during the time I previously selected. C'mon, man. Don't allow an available time slot if the truck isn't available. If that's an issue then fix the app. If the customer has to make a change (because of your mistake), offer some type of compensation instead of charging them more because you couldn't figure it out. Lastly, stop letting the U-Haul Site Management use this excuse, â€œI'm sorry, it's U-Haul's policy, not ours.â€Malach R.

This was a small location at an auto repair place and the Uhaul rentals were not a major part of their business. The gentleman renting the Uhaul didn't go over the vehicle with me and did not have the total number of blankets I had reserved. I had to go to another UHaul location to rent the additional blankets--that location was an actual Uhual store and service there was excellent!Katrine W.

I would not recommend this location for people returning anything other than a small uHaul. They have a very small lot with very limited parking. So trying to find a place for a 26' truck at night, in the rain. Made for an unpleasant experience when there is another uHaul location nearby that is much more accessible.Derrick F.
