Location was not open, note on door said see barber shop next door, person was not helpful, pointed to another note that gave me a different drop off address. Very hard to find, parking truck was impossible. Helper was rude.

michael mThe self serve app was hard to navigate. I got my text 11 AM for an 11am reservation however the person I spoke to said my reservation was at 8am. There was a lot of confusion which was super frustrating. The can was clean but had a rear tire low pressure light that was on which prevented me from seeing the initial mileage.

Jennifer KVery poor experience all around, and I can safely say I will never use this location ever again. First, I couldn’t find the trucks. They are not at the listed address. There is a very faded, hand written sign on the door with the address that I probably wouldn’t have been able to make out if I didn’t know the area. Once I got to the address, I found a dingy, banged up, dated truck that reeked of cigarettes, had mirrors that wouldn’t adjust, and had a tire that was low on air. All in all it was just a negative experience and I would recommend other customers use a different location.

Kehinde AU-haul had a truck pre-paid for me to pick up in Kearny, 6 minutes away from my apartment. I scheduled movers through the U-Haul app as well 2 men, 3 hours. My time was limited. I was supposed to meet them at 11:30 to start. My appointment was 10:30. I was not even told ahead of time there would be no truck available. I continued to call customer services for help but the wait was hours. So finally i tried a live chat. That too took long. Finally they responded with “truck not Available “ i asked what i was supposed to do where to go.. it took a long time for them to help find a nearby U-Haul . Finally they sent me to Bloomfield NJ… that was an absolute mess and eventually i looked at the time and it was passed 11:30.. the movers wanted to leave. I assured them i was doing my best.. finally after an hour i got the truck, it was not in good condition i thought i would breakdown.. i lost over an hour with the movers, and i ended up of course paying them the 92.50 each per for another 1.5 hours plus tip. I never received a refund or help on how to resolve it other than an email stating they’ll get to it in about 10 days… i never do reviews but this ended up costing as much as it would have if i just hired private movers.. pointless

Nereyda NI initially wanted to rate the location as poor because the actual location of where the uhaul trucks were and the address given to pick up were NOT the same. I actually stumbled on the lot where the uhaul trucks were because after stopping at 162 Bloomfield Avenue and finding the location closed I made a turn on a one way street and ended up driving 3 blocks until I could turn left on Jefferson Street to make my way back to Bloomfield Avenue. After making a left turn on Jefferson I made another left hand turn on a street that I saw would take me back in the direction of Bloomfield Avenue and after driving two blocks I happened to see a uhaul truck parked behind in a lot behind the post office on a tiny street. I arrived and then kept calling electronic place located at 162 Bloomfield Avenue. Thankfully after a hour of trying of dealing with the app, the gentleman who owned the electronic business who had a uhaul sign in the window of his business walked me through the steps of how to do mobile pick up. Had it not been for him I would have given up and not been able to complete my move. Moving forward I will only rent a vehicle from uhaul from a location where there is a live person who can take my payment in person and where the vehicles are on site in a lot. To say that this was a stressful situation is an understatement. I cannot stress how unclear the location of the actual Uhaul trucks were to where the storefront / location provided from uhaul customer svs were.
Maryellen FFirst of all, the employee that was there was tremendous. Truly a credit to the world of customer service. That being said it was insane that it took an hour and 15 minutes to "contactless" pick up my rental. First, the app said that I had to be at the correct location which was the storefront for my after hours contactless pickup. However, the parking lot is a 5 minute walk from the storefront making this wildly impractical. Second, it required employee intervention to suggest I use the infinitely more functional website. Then, of course, since I'm using an interim license I was unable to complete my rental without customer service that's based in Arizona. We waited 30 minutes for an associate to call and to put my buddy onto the rental with his credentials. I had to put his information in 3 times...3, into the app/website. I have to tell you, this sucked.
James CThe location was great except they need to spend two minutes making a new sign for pick-up directions outside of working hours (the current signage is not legible at all). Someone who worked there saw us having trouble on the camera feed and came by on his day off to help us, unsolicited. Which was very appreciated. If you pick up your truck when they are open for business you won't have any issues. This is no fault of the business, but it is absurd that U-Haul surprised me at pick-up with a request for either a passport photo, proof of employment, or a signed lease. I made my reservation in person and talked to U-Haul multiple times, and even uploaded everything that I could the night before for pre-check in on the app, and nobody ever mentioned I would need to bring my passport along. The site also only allows live photo uploads, so I wasn't able to upload a screenshot of my lease. Luckily I was with a friend, who was able to take a picture of my phone screen showing my lease. Otherwise I would have to drive back home to find my passport. That would have been extra stressful because U-Haul sent me a half hour away to pick up a truck, even though there are many pick-up locations that are nearer to me. Those are all U-Haul problems though, and not at all the fault of this particular business!

Nicholas CThe app was good when i used it 1 year ago. It is now much harder to use, it took 45 mns to check out. When returning the vehicle, the app didn’t work that well! There was a guy on site for U-Haul and he made the experience much better when i returned the vehicle. The customer service is also really good! I could count on them and was even called back for one of my queries. Overall, i prefer renting with U-Haul as it is easier, and quicker! If you update the app and make it kore efficient! It would really be perfect.

After making several attempts and speaking to the rep on the phone who arrived 45 minutes.after we started the checking process, it took us approximately one hour and 30 minutes to get the truck, moving which causied additional charges from the men that are hired to help. This is not acceptable behavior from a business.

We really needed them. After we found the right location, the process was easy and clear. Also u-haul customer service was efficient, attentive, fast and responsive.

They told me I had to go back to the one that’s when I got a pin from them by that time was supposed to be back by 4 o’clock cause it was already supposed to be rented out to another customer by that time when they were gonna charge me so I didn’t take the truck. I would like to have money refund.

Thomas SThe gentleman I spoke to at the rental pick up location was helpful and responsive. However, I received a vehicle that needed servicing (engine oil) which was discovered several miles after pick up. I contacted the general number at U-haul and was told to service the vehicle myself and that it was noted on my contract that if anything were to happen to the vehicle it would be my responsibility. I ended up going out of my way to purchase engine oil and added a quart to the engine. I also contacted U-haul twice regarding a drop off address in Warrensburg, NY which I never received despite asking repeatedly. Thankfully the drop off location in Queensbury, NY did not charge me for going over my miles. My overall experience was inconvenient and annoying.

Lastly, I was supposed to be assigned a drop off location however I was advised to do it myself. Terrible experience, I would never recommend UHaul nor utilize services again if applicable
James CThis was not a pleasant experience. The store was closed. PERMANENTLY. The hand written not on the door gave a number that was out of service. This caused many problems because I was instructed to go to another location a few blocks away to pick up truck but GPS thought I was in the wrong area and would not complete my authorization to get key code. The van smelled terribly of cigarette smoke. I spent 50 min in a cold parking lot conversing with your support on chat until I finally got key. You must not continue with this location. It is a scam if they are being paid. I have pictures to prove they are out of business.
Andrew TAwful place never rent a Uhaul from here. The location of the dealer on Bloomfield Ave is like a 30min walk through a dangerous area to where the trucks actually are picked up. They also tried to double charge me for gas, insurance when it was a 1 time trip. Really fly by night operation do not risk your money with them.
Luke PThe physical location was closed when we arrived for our scheduled Friday morning pickup. A sign on the door, which appears to have been permanently placed, directed us to a lot to pickup our reserved van. At the lot, very little in direction. After 45 minutes in the hot sun, waiting on hold with Hertz for 15 minutes and going through multiple steps on line we were able to obtain the keys. Very unpleasant experience. Will not rent from this location again. My prior experiences with U-Haul have all been pleasant and efficient. However, going forward I will look at other rental companies.

wojciech wThe process/experience overall was very bad. System is very poorly designed. I reserved a truck which didn’t require me to have an account. Simply enter email and phone number to receive a confirmation #. But then when I show up, it says I need to login to my account to start the rental procedure… so I had to sit in my car and wasted a full hour redoing the entire process. The 2 representatives who helped me were very kind and very helpful. The system however, was just awful.

Deanna PI had difficulty using your online pick up tool. It would not recognize my photo and drivers license even though I had uploaded it with my registration. Your request for more documentation (eg passport) is over the top. Why should I give you all my personal data? I was able to get the problem resolved by spending 30 minutes on the phone with the 800 number. That's way too much time to waste. I also was disappointed in the truck's performance. I picked it up with a full tank, drove 20 miles and when i refilled the tank it took almost 4 gallons! Is the truck that inefficient or was the tank not really full. Next time I rent I will look for other alternatives.
Michael F1. the uhaul app didn’t work. 2. The day before I could sign in and call customer service. Costumer services was indifferent and dismissive about me not being able to log in. They said it wouldn’t matter. But it did. I needed more info than I had on hand and it caused confusion. 3. The truck was not at the address given. 4. Ignition for truck wouldn’t turn over unless her jerked the steering wheel several times. 5. Didn’t receive furniture pads Just a bad experience overall

Adam SRenting this van was THE MOST stressful thing I have ever experience IN A VERY LONG TIME! Years ago I had used the same location (162 Bloomfield Ave, Bloomfield NJ), but had forgotten how HORRIBLE it is. You get there and no-one is at the shop. I waited for a while. Nothing! there is a paper taped to the door to call if no one is there, but both #s had voice mail boxes FULL. The sign said to go to 143 Grove St., but when you get there, that is the address of a convenient store. Felling completely confused looking at my GPS, I walked out of my car and asked inside the store, who didn't (or pretend they didn't) kno nothing about a UHaul office. It took me 10 min to decide to walk around to discover the trucks. It took me another 45 min to be able to do all the stuff via mobile. I know about a thing or two about technology, but even I could barely handle it doing this over a freaking app!. Had to call Customer Svce several times for assistance. I wanted to ask a couple of things about gas, insurance BUT INSTEAD i was there in the middle of an empty lot reading tiny words I could barely made sense of! THIS LOCATION/ UHAUL SHOULD NOT PUT THEIR CUSTOMERS THROUGH THIS. THIS IS THE WORSE SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCE! I HONESTLY DESERVE A REFUND! I got to my appointment very late and that cost me an extra $200! All because if this horrible service!

When I get there a note on the door tells me to drop off the keys at the barber shop next to the electronics store. The guys in the shop tell me to call the number listed on the paper instead. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was nice and told me where to go but I wouldn't have had to call him in the first place if the text I got was correct. So wasted time trying to figure out where to park only to realize I was given the wrong drop off area. Overall the truck was decently maintained. It is very dirty at the driver's side and needs to be cleaned. There's dried dirt visible on the floors. I'm sure you can see it in the photos I took before taking the truck. I hope someone sees this and makes necessary changes so people who do rent from here in the future don't have to deal with this frustration.

AMIR II used this location for after hours pickup and the truck was parked in a lot 2 blocks away but no one was there to let us know. We waited around awhile, tried calling the business with no answer then, finally went into the business next door and somehow they knew and directed us. We wasted 30min looking for the truck then 2 hours trying to get the keys. I finally canceled my original reservation and made a new one (luckily there was another free truck) in which we had no problems - just wasted over 2 hours getting it!
