Sunday Dec 4th: The setup and Yard is good in Sparwood. Lot was cleared and snow plowed for the most part. No assistance given by the franchisee...I had trouble getting the Trailer off of the hitch due to snow etc. Woman was surly and unpleasant at best saying that Uhaul hours were only until Sunday 2pm despite it being a Gas Station open until 10pm. I was there at 2:42. She basically told me to go away and come back on December 6th when I had 'rented' the trailer until according to the contract. I believe this was the only option I was given a Minimum 3 day rental $750. If I am entitled to a rebate I will gladly take it!! After some back and forth that I was only dropping off the trailer she put the closing contract through finally...not pleasant. Sparwood is the only franchise location within 100+kms each way. Sad to see Fernie Auto Parts is no longer a franchise...never had an issue there Lastly in booking online it says Sparwood drop off has 24 hour drop off service (I already knew this was untrue) and asked at pick up location to confirm hours to return in Sparwood. She told me until 5pm each day. This is on Uhaul to fix for future customers.

The trailer should have a tongue jack and the running lights didn't work. Typical U-Haul garbage.

Unit was found to be covered in 8 inches of snow which I had to sweep off. Trailer hitch was frozen into the ground. Although I was by myself and am somewhat disabled, the staff did not offer or give me any help in cleaning the trailer and hitching the trailer to my truck. The lady at the counter was however very nice.

1) As a U Haul policy, gas tanks should be full at time of pick up. It is a hassle to have to gauge not overfilling past a set fuel point prior to return 2) I had to buy washer fluid for the truck at time of pick up as it was empty. No reimbursement for the expense. Only $ 7.50 but the principle.....

I find it somewhat offensive that your customers are required to purchase one of your U-Haul padlocks. A padlock of the customer's choice would by all means be sufficient and the risk would default to the customer exclusively. I see this as a cash grab, especially because it was revealed at the last minute during the contract signing. A friendly word of advice-these are precisely the things that will turn potential customers away as opposed to attracting them. People generally don't appreciate being nickel and dimed.

I had hoped to just drop off the equipment and key and be done with my move, but they asked me to disconnect and park both the trailer and truck, and then also to fold and bag the blankets for them and unload the 2 furniture dollies. I was hoping my move would be over simply by returning the equipment.

I was unaware of the drop off location until I was at my destination. I was under the impression that it would be closer to my destination (less than an hour) but found out that it was 2 hours away. Very frustrated.

The location was great, but far off where I was supposed to drop off from my reservation. I was supposed to drop the trailer off in Cranbrook, but recent changes in staff qualification obliged me to go to Sparwood. I was very upset as I had not planned that drive and detour in my schedule. It cost me a half day of work to return the trailer in time, which should have been extended to my convenience as I was originally supposed to drop it in town, a 5 min drive. The argument that was given to me was that the staff in Cranbrook didn't have the hitch training/qualification to deal with trailers, which would make sense only if the people at UHaul were helping customers the right way. from the previous location I was at, the way they set me up, I can't agree with that argument. The guy didn't know the important and safety details of what he was doing, and thankfully a mechanic friend of mine who actually knows about trailers and hitches confirmed the set up was erroneous. I had talked with someone over the phone about my rental, and was told I should come by to make sure I have the right equipment and have the qualified staff verify and measure my hitch. I had to change the location of the pick up, but went to an other UHaul in Calgary to get a proper ball mount for my car, and the lady there as well didn't know nor gave importance at the height the ball would be. She didn't measure and just gave me a general mount. I had to go back to Calgary to return the part and get the proper equipment. I received $50 refund for having to drive to Sparwood, but because the service provided by "qualified" staff doesn't support the argument that was given to me, that I already had to loose a lot of time, money and work to correct UHaul's staff many mistakes, I think a full refund would be a better apology.

Within hours of leaving the pickup place we were contacted to say the drop location was full (it wasn't as it turned out) and could we arrange to drop the van either at Golden, or Lethbridge. Both locations hundreds of kilometres away from Sparwood, and in the opposite directions of our return journey travel. I was too busy loading in 35degree heat to take that call, and my wife took it - she was far more understanding about the totally unreasonable request than I would have been (but still refused of course). Just ludicrous that your organisation thinks that is reasonable to suggest such impractical (and unnecessary) changes to an agreed contract during the most physically and stressful time of a house move operation. NOT the fault of personnel at the drop location but I sense an entire systemic failing and bad culture within your management.

Our reservation was changed at the last minute and I was redirected to McGibbons Auto in Cranbrook where I was verbally and physically assaulted by the owner. Unfortunately, my complaint was unanswered by U-Haul and the area manager. Had some issues at the Sparwood location as they couldn't access Visa debit on their r system and I had to get cash from a nearby ATM.

We had to make a 3 hour detour, the drop off location was supposed to be Cranbrook but was changed on me. Terrible customer experience and I was no compensated adequately for this added gas and time loss.

Sparwood Esso was OK to deal with but UHaul was awful. Our reservation was changed numerous times with no notice. No one seemed to care or try to make it right. It made our moving day extremely stressful. I hated the experience and would never recommend uhaul.

This is the 3rd time we have rented a truck through this location and all 3 times we have run into problems with the people who are in charge. They don't understand English nor can they properly speak it and they also do not understand the UHaul hub. We will be going elsewhere in the future. We are done with this location.

Location was great, staff are great. It's UHAUL customer service that is horrendous. Was forced to drive it an hour and a half back to its original location for return and was given a response as if I should be thankful “we covered the kms and added extra days”. Which might I add, I wouldn't have needed could I just have returned it to the planned location, never mind the 3 hours and $50 in fuel I burned. Very disappointed in UHAUL.

Need to make the rental process easier. Doing the form online was bad enough then doing it all over again at the location took hours oit of my day and I almost gave up renting the trailer the uhaul procedures were ridiculous. Even the staff wrre frustrated. Doing things 2 and 3 times isn't productive for anyone. Streamline the process. Wouldn't rent ever again.

interior of truck was dirty follow up from location notified us there was not car dollie, the night before! Had to call U-haul help centre they reconfirmed it was there! really caused alot of anxiety for us

U-Haul's 'reservation' system is a joke and should definitely be improved. U-Haul's business model is completely exploitive of the the businesses who provide pick-up and drop off locations. If you didn't have a monopoly on this niche I would certainly never use your service again. The fact that a reservation doesn't guarantee that the product you have ordered online will be available when you arrive to pick it up is completely unacceptable.

There was some damage to the trailer when picked up, and had to be recorded before taking. There was a slow leak on the right rear tire, that needed constant monitoring, and filling.

It was terrible..the truck was pre-booked days before and still wasn't ready.Gave me keys to a truck that was blocked in..was not checked or marked for lots of damage...was hard to understand..was a nightmare to say the least..terrible experience.

Would be good to allow photos taken. Dropped truck off after hours but took photos and could not access truck afterwards as key was placed on drop box. And could not upload previously taken photos. Otherwise rental was great. Would be good to consider diesel trucks as well given the price of fuel and they're always hauling.

The truck was rented mean to me with a half a tank of gas how do I know what constitutes a half a tank to refill it! The guy told me to pump the gas and keep checking it so I leave a running engine and pumped the gas that is illegal and highly dangerous. Then he was insulant and miss calculated the mileage by a 4 mile and put it on my credit card without my permission when I specifically asked at the time of booking and when I pick the truck up to secure it with the card and pay debit. Horrible experience

There should be a walk around done. The attic had garbage on it was not swept out . Wiper scratched window as bare metal is showing was give rate online as 99cents a km not 1.59 a km. Poor communication online.

Only U-Haul location in the area, so recommending them is not applicable. Lots of equipment to choose from though. I've always found U-Hauls renting system horribly slow and a miserable process and this trip was no different. I chose to complete the “online check in” to prevent any delays at the time of pick up and this saved me nothing. Still took mote than 20 min of getting asked redundant questions, taking pictures of my drivers license (that I had already done in the online check in process) ect. I tried to return the truck the same day and was told I had to come back the next day. So I left the truck there and had to return the next day to return the keys because the man working the previous evening wasn't capable of taking the keys and leaving a note for the morning shift? Don't think this is solely a reflection of Sparwood Esso as a depot r it's staff. I think this was is just a reflection of how ignorant U-Haul's rental program/process is. It's the same pain in the..... no mater where you rent. But it's an invaluable service.

Make sure we get what we booked and paid for. Have alternate BETTER options available if you can not supply what you confirmed in booking. Give BIG discount if you can not supply what was booked. Require your staff to take some customer service training.
