The building its self was dilapidated. Windows falling out and ceiling tiles missing also with a general uncleanliness that goes along with abandoned properties. Not to mention the smell of mildew in the air. The trailer I picked up did not have a driver side rear brake/turn signal. (Eventually it did start working but only hours later) While I do understand that I placed my reservation very last minute, according to everything on U-Haul it was “ guaranteed” the trailer I needed would be available. I set the pick-up time to be 8:30am and when I arrived at location no one was there. There was also no equipment except for a car dolly. I was there for a 4x8 trailer. I tried to call the property after 10-15 minutes of waiting, no answer. So I called customer service, I got transferred to some automated thing that wasn’t making sense and while I was working through that the property manager called back. At this point it was almost 9am. The property manager asked if I’d be willing to drive farther out of my way to go to hays to pick up the trailer. I explained that wasn’t really an option so they said they would bring me the trailer soon. I ended up waiting another 15-20 minutes for them to show up with the trailer. Once they got there he hooked the trailer up and I noticed the light not working. He tried (unsuccessfully) for about 10-15 minutes to get it to work and asked if I would be heading through hays so someone could look at it. I informed him I was not heading through hays. He said it would probably be fine then and not to worry about it. (Driving from Russell, KS to Gillette, WY, and now not leaving till much later than anticipated which means definitely traveling at night so having all lights working is pretty important in my opinion but at this point I just NEEDED a trailer and to leave asap) Then we went to do paperwork, which took even longer because their computers needed booted up. All together that was another 10-15 minutes of waiting. During which I was apologized to for the wait because “we don’t actually open till 10, but you know how corporate offices are, they just want to get the units rented out, they don’t care.” I explained that online it shows they open at 8:30…. Which is why I set my pickup time to 8:30 and was met again with “hahahaha yea, we don’t open till 10 but they just want units rented out and don’t care” So if you want to improve this location for the next customer maybe a good place to start is changing the hours online to the actual hours they are open. Beyond that, there is obviously a whole mess of problems here that need worked out. All together I didn’t leave this location until roughly 9:45-10am… over an hour after my initial pickup time.

Mark CThe U-haul was NOT even at the Victoria location. We reserved it at Hays and then were told it was at Victoria then when we arrived at Victoria that location was completely shut down. The Hays office said it was never in Victoria and their computer showed it in Hays. We called the main line twice and were told Victoria so we ended up leaving much later than we wanted and wasting gas and time driving all the way over to Victoria and back to Hays where the U-Haul was all along. We feel we deserve a free rental or at least reimbursement of gas and wasted time.
