I WAS DISCRIMINATED AGAINST & have video footage of James â€œJimâ€ owns being extremism prejudice towards me! Will be pushing this matter to corporate and so forth! My younger brother needed help moving a few things, so I reserved a UHAUL. My mom drops us off at TOP DOG (y'all this was the only place that could serve me immediately). I did everything completely online, but it said that I needed to go in to receive the key. The screen said to just show them the message (as pictured). I go to walk in the building & theres 2 guys (younger & older) outside smoking. When I walked up, they walked in and I followed. No one welcomed me or even acknowledged my presence. I waited about 5 min, just standing at the counter. Then, I proceeded to ask if this was the correct location for the UHAUL pickup (mind you, they're contracted). The younger guy said â€œright here,â€ so I patiently waited. They started talking, playing with the TV & kept ignoring me. Fast forward, an appeared to be Caucasian lady walks in and he immediately starts asking her questions and helping her. I let him finish & then I proceeded to ask why I wasn't helped. He was extremely rude about it and did not want to help me whatsoever. You can even see & hear in the video where the lady walked out to grab a paper and then he told her to bring on up to the counter with a smirk on his face. I walk out and call my mom. Please excuse her language, but this is very frustrating. My mom walks in (mind you, she is mixed & light) & he immediately tries to assist her before he realized that she was with me. He told me that if I wasn't going local, I couldn't take his truck. He also said that I needed a paper contract (not online) but never gave me one. After going back and forth, He threatened to call the police, so we waited and they never showed up (he didn't call). So, then, we called! When they arrived, the younger guy ran to a shed in the back and hid out. Long story short, he handed me the keys & told me that I was right. Then, proceeded to ask â€œwould you like something to drink, sweetheart?!â€ No written contract was ever signed. He literally just handed me the keys. So, all of that, for what?!!!! Took the truck back and was told that I brought it back so fast so he thought that there may be something wrong with the truck.Kierra M.
When we arrived the truck was not there and uhaul guaranteed it would be there. Had to change to another one took forever place was NASTY!!! Will never do business there again. Ended having to buy a book the dealer had written before he would let me leave. Threatened to charge it to my credit card since he had access to it from the rental. The trailer had grass in it. Had to sweep it out before I could use it.Barry H.
The location is fine. The rental had a lot to be desired. On the website, when renting something that says 6' X 12', it needs to say the ramp is 57". If it had, I would not have rented it. It was a complete waste of money and time.Melissa W.

I had initially needed a 26' for a few days for furniture storage. The project ended up lasting longer than I expected. I had to extend my coverage to keep the truck longer. Jim was very understanding and helpful in granting my extension.TRACY M.

This location was 30 minutes away from my desired pick-up location. Upon arrival, you could not discern where to go to check-in and receive the keys. The space for check-in was really cramped in a tiny back office and the computer system was extremely slow. They also did not have any moving pads as requested. The person working there was not wearing a mask.HOLLY B.

The owner was extremely nice but due to computer issues it took about an hour to rent a small trailer. When we got home and opened the trailer, it had big pieces of styrofoam and screws and bolts all over it. We had to clean it before packing.ERNEST D.

This trailer should not be used to move a home. The smell of urine permeated the entire move and take your breath away even after cleaning it 3 times myself. Very unorganized and didn't appreciate the dealer lying about the situation. Not what I expected from a Uhaul experiencePaul A.

In running 2 businesses at the same time - this owner/manager needs to hire someone to run the restaurant while someone else handles the Uhaul reservations. Checking out went smoothly EXCEPT I had given payment online and this had to be done again manually when my driver arrived, which I was trying to avoid. She would not let me reserve truck for next day either without going online. When returning truck we waited around 10 minutes - she said she would be right w us. She told us we needed to take photo of gas gauge and odometer. When we came back in we waited (she acknowledged we were there) for around 30 minutes. She had let another customer renting in front of us and customers in the grill were lining up and leaving. After 30 minutes I informed her we too had to return to our jobs and we needed to complete transaction by turning in keys showing her the photos and leave. Too much time wasted and we are on tight work schedules to use this location again. I normally use Penske and have had a much more positive experience in Forest City, Shelby and Spartanburg. It was not bad for other things in this area. Just not like Chapel Hill. The ancient computer couldn't print, etc. I took a picture of his screen it was fine. Nice guy. Truck was not at all clean! Grimmy inside every crevice of the cab. Chunks of dirt and leaves inside the back. I saw a sign threatening a service fee if not swept. Does that mean you charged the fee to the las customer, then didn't sweep it but left it for me to do before I could pack my stuff? I feel like I should get the $20! Also, dirty windshield and NO washer fluid. Definitely a hazard!Karen G.
the folks at this location (top dog spindale) were very friendly and nice. I called at last minute and they were about to close on memorial day weekend also an they agreed to stay til I got there. they saved our back side.Amanda H.

First of all you could definitely use employees that are on location.I was giving an address to go to on Soco Gap by your main office in Rutherfordton on Mainstreet. I arrived there and no one was there my son-in-law and I walked all around the place knocking on every door trying to find someone and calling there and no one answered. Finally I called the main office on Main Street and she said that she can't figure out why they're not answering either and then she told me to go a half an hour away to Spindale it was pouring raining we had already spend 25 minutes there and driven 15 minutes to get there it was horrendous by the time we got to the new location in Spindale off of Oakland buy a Top Dog restaurant. The person who was supposed to be in putting the information and older gentlemen seem very confused and lost it took him at least 35 minutes to figure out how to put the order in even though I had put it in online earlier as requested by your company. He took me into a back room and had me stand over him for about 30 minutes while he tried to figure out how to put the information in I felt very uncomfortable and it was not very professional to say the least. He proceeded to tell me that the dolly that I was promised when I first put in the order would not be on the truck and it was sent one way to someplace and never returned. I asked him if there was another one any place else he said he didn't know. After waiting approximately 30 minutes for him to finish the online order which I had already started we got the truck and then drove it to carry the move without the dolly which was very difficult and then what the truck back put in $16 worth of gas to bring the gas can back to where it was and still I was charged another fourteen or fifteen dollars for gas plus charge for the dolly all of this inconvenience it's just very very very disappointing. I've never used U-Haul and I must say I really don't feel that I ever would want to unless I can get some kind of compensation the girl did say that I would get a $50 credit for the inconvenience of going to One locations and having to go to another location. But the whole billing process was very very confusing she told me she couldn't find where there was a charge for $14 I'm telling her I'm looking at the invoice that you sent me and the $14 is clearly stated on there and she couldn't understand where it was a how it was done someone by the name of Musunday in Main office in Rutherfordton and of course I'm just looking at the invoice that was sent there seems to be a lot of confusing in your company and all I want to do is to get a credit for the amount that I was charged to $14 and any compensation that I can get for all of the inconvenience and a long long wait I had to deal with because of all of the mishaps and basically misunderstandings there. all this going on in the pouring rain it was not a good experience.katrisa K.

Owner Jim would not help with the rental agreement. New employee struggled for over an hour to fill the form out and had asked him three times to assist and his reply was that she could do it. I finally asked him to help, and he said he'd be over in a minute and proceeded to make his lunch and a cuppa coffee before he came over. When I asked him to help with loading the trailerâ€¦ I am a 65-year-old womanâ€¦ He told me all I had to do was to pick it up , Put it on my hitch and â€œmash it downâ€. Those were his exact wordsâ€¦ â€œJust mash it downâ€. I will never return to that location and I have advised the people that sent me there to never send another customer there again. He was lazy, rude and inconsiderate to his employees as well as to his customers ! A horrible representative of U haulCarol G.
I had to go thru the kitchen of a restaurant, to get to a small cramped office, to get to the uhaul representative, who never even turned around from his desk to look at me. I was supposed to have my vehicle inspected , for towing, never happened. Then I was told the trailer was somewhere on the lot. Very disorganized. Kept me waiting for over an hour until the regional manager stepped in and had me finished in 6 minutes. Than he kept me waiting again to take something out of the truck. The I inbred idiot was more interested in making lemonade for his restaurant than anything else. The "office" is a hole in the wall in back of the cooking and preparation part of the restaurant. The bad experience started when the place that I reserved the U-Haul at (Palmetto) was closed when I arrived. Very frustrating. BAD, BAD Expierence. Late drop off is a little dicey here and especially this trip. There were so many trailers on their lot, there was no room for another. Was able to squeeze it between two others by hand-pushing it onto place (luckily the little 4x8 trailer is light). There was a street light but was not too effective on a small, crowded lot.JOE M.

I wouldn't recommend this place to someone I hated... the owner was the rudest person I've came in contact with in YEARS. He couldn't get a contract printed out so he sent me outside to take a pic of the mileage on the truck because he wasn't going to. While taking a pic of the mileage tracking owner drove off and left me there. I never signed anything, he never told me anything about a fuel charge or that I needed to cap off the tank. I put 20 miles on the truck and he charges me 3.5 gallons at $4 a gallon. I'm not paying that. If he managed his business like a legitimate business person none of these things would've happened. He told me I had to have it back by 10 am sharp.... which I did... but he didn't open until 11 am... which had me sitting around for over an hour. Then when I brought in eh keys, he tells me he's busy and doesn't have time to mess with it right now. Oh... and the back of the truck when I picked it up... was full of cigarette butts, tree limbs, broken pieces of wood.... and LOTS of sand. This man doesn't need to be renting uhauls.Justin S.
The individual (Jim) at the rental location could not answer basic questions about the rental vehicle (how to move the mirrors). His computer generated numerous popups when trying to complete the rental paperwork that wasted a great deal of time and causes me to wonder about the security of my credit card as it was swiped on a computer that was incredibly slow and probably overloaded with viruses and malware (hence the popups and the slow operation). If directed to this location again, I would cancel.James M.

The truck was dirty inside and smelled of smoke. The location is a restaurant, and the owner has trouble with the (old) computer he uses to be able to check in and out efficiently. I spent 20 minutes in the back room of this greasy restaurant before he figured it out, and did not know how some of it worked (I had to tell him). Would not recommend.Andrew G.
You need to be clear where the key drop off is. It was very difficult to find. You need to be clear where you should leave the truck. It was very difficult to determine whether to leave at the address you show in this survey, or, next door in the field with the other U-Haul materials.Robert C.

Dirty store, their office was in a kitchen of a restaurant, the employees were arguing with each other than me as I tried to explain that I shouldn't be charged for gas when I was given the wrong gas gauge. Plus the mileage barely covered from one U-Haul location to another. They were clueless so instead of helping me fix it they charged me 124.00 I am so unpleasant that I will look elsewhere when I need a rental again.Kristen S.

my original reservation was in Shelby NC...someone who didnt speak english called to tell me it wasnt available...I called back and one of the departments said it should be available as it was showing that it was...I couldnt take the chance that it wasnt-another person was able to send me to Top Dog thank god...Negative zero stars for shelby leaving me in a lurch and 10+ stars to Top Dog for working with me on the phone-after hours and making this all possible!! This location is not representative of the normal excellent U-Haul service. When I went to the location the U-Haul representative was not on site. I had a tight time line and was not able to get service. I left to return to the site where again I could not get service due to the representative chit chatting with lunch counter clients. When I requested his service I was told by him "he had to serve some ice cream". When I was able to get his attention he informed me he would not assist in my hooking up the trailer I intended to rent. I assured him I could do the job. When I got the trailer hitched up there was no light connection. The trailer had NO electrical connection wireing to plug. There was a receptical but not enough length to connect. Unable to reach the tow vechile. At a nearby auto parts store I was able to purchase the wireing required to connect tow vehicle to trailer. These wires are normally supplied by U-Haul. This location does not operate a normal work day schedule as I was used to with U-Haul. This caused me issues with the return of the trailer. I will not use this location again. I did not need this trailer until the next day. The one place that was supposed to be open till 5:00 PM was closing up when I called to check on them at 12:30. The only other place that was open said they were closing at 2:30 and none of them would be open the next day which was Sunday when I would need the trailer so I was forced to rent it 18 hours before I would actually need it just to get 7 hours use out of it, and you want to charge me for another 24 hours because I was 1 hour late according to your contract? This location I run by an elderly man at dingy hot dog shack. Not at all what I expected. Not the face of UHaul. I tried to return trailer at 9 AM. No one at the location. As a woman the toung was too heavy for me to remove from my vehicle. I had to flag down a passing vehicle and was dependent on the kindness of a stranger to assist in getting the trailer off my hitch. So no, I would not reccomend this location. L EsauLinda E.

The owner/only employee of this location showed up 30 minutes late, and did not apologize in any way. Me, my husband, and our two young children had to sit and wait in the car for him, and it did not seem to bother him to be 30 minutes late to take our money.
