The online app for renting a truck could use some improvement particularly in the wait time for codes to get in the key box
George GReal talk: your app is truly, unacceptably bad at performing the dispatch and return functions. Even with a modern device and a fast LTE connection, I spent a full 40 minutes in sub-freezing weather wresting with it to dispatch, and another 20 to return. These were not user-error issues. The app itself suffers from terrible latency both in image upload and server-side processing, and the extreme lag (3-5 minutes of processing per image sent with no visual feedback except a button spinner) creates additional issues with caching and app state. These state issues can only be worked around by a full close and restart of the app. 40 minutes just to dispatch the truck is not an exaggeration. I was able to eventually complete both processes, but I was nothing short of furious with your company throughout the ordeal. I feel that many users less comfortable with tech would likely have an even tougher, more frustrating time. Your management team needs to seriously question if it's worth it to publish an app which *technically* can provide the capability to perform a user-driven dispatch, but which causes a portion of its users to HATE you. I can say conclusively that will never utilize that service again, and will prefer to look elsewhere for future rentals. And from reading other feedback I am far from the only one with this sentiment. As a developer myself, I understand how difficult BYOD hardware support is. But seriously -- don't put out a half-assed product if your dev team isn't up to the task.
Benjamin SI had to use the app to get the keys to the truck but there was very little cell service there & the app didn't work if I left to get better signal. It took me over an hour to get the truck since the app kept resetting & I had to start over every time. Incredibly frustrating!
Jennifer HThe location is convenient for me but is "self pick up/drop off" and the location has bad cell service so difficult to run app. The truck was clean but the gas tank was less thrn half full and the engine soon light was on, which I did report it.
Jenny RThe mobile system was so complicated, took 45 min to get everything worked out. Mobile denied 2 cards had to get online phone support. There wasn’t good reception at the site causing delays in uploading information.
Stacey SI rented furniture pads that were not in truck. I had to drive to 2 differnt uhaul to pick some up myself. Putting me and hour behind schedule. Not to mentioned added miles I had to pay for. Also van was dirty. Dirty tissues and trash in cup holders and doors. I was asked to change my return spot and I did. Only to be told nope that uhaul a full and I’d have to drive 20 miles out of they way to a further one. Very in organized. And I was never compensated like I was told I would be. Nor did I ever get a phone call from a Uhaul specialist like I was told to correct this.
Melissa CI was overcharged for the gas. I returned it with the same amount of gas as when I received it, but was still charged $16. This is not acceptable.
Michael PThis process of checking in & out was very cumbersome & took a long time having to use the phone. Would had much quicker & easier if a person would had been there or at least streamline the checking in process with the phone to speed things up.

SEAN HI arrived on time to pick up 20’ truck. My step father drove from males to Standish to pick up truck. We arrived roughly 2 minutes early. After the rental time had come and gone I called mant uhaul numbers. The rental truck was in yard with no keys. Issue no one was working at location. It took me over 2 hours to finally have a uhaul agent come to Standish uhaul to get the keys out of a lock box no one had giving me the code to get keys out of. I was very dissatisfied that it took me over 2 hours to get the keys for rental i. Paid $255.38 for. Nothing about me waiting speaking on the phone with 3 to 5 uhaul workers before some one called me back asking if i recieved the combo to get keys. I told him no I did not so on Uhaul’s end 2 hours plus of my time and my step fathers time were used up and uhaul like it did not happen charged me for there no show no keys no email on combo to get key. I verified on the o outer my license and all yet was charged for over two hours time I had no truck. Expensive to be on a uhaul parking yard that no one was working at delaying our move ve a long shot and the payment was way to high for time i did not even use the truck. I will not come to Standish again I was robbed and cheated by the company spending almost $250 dollars and in the over charge of late fees was not even credited the 2 hours and 42 minutes in yard calling all uhaul numbers I found on my iphone again I just moved and uhaul Saco over charged but at least they refunded some of my over charge due to a credit card hack my bank caught and froze my acvount and shut down debit card but Saco was very understanding great business. I wrote about this after the rental on 10/16/2020 never received a response from Standish I figured they just do not care about the uhaul name or customers trying to move there life’s and families with as little annoyances as possible. When i did get truck from Standish my blood pressure was rocketed way up I was very displeased the way I was ignored one on late pick up 2complaint same as this one that was more then likely deleted like no see no happen. I appreciate the rental but if I came to Standish to dent a truck over 5 times I could have placed a down payment on a Motor home. Thanks for the over charge one year and a couple days ago im Ute again this will be posdibly read but no response if not just deleted a business is suppose to be a place the owner makes money the customer is happy because of the use of rental I am totally disappointed. Very glad Saco made it so I will again use uhaul as long as I do not need to go to Standish to pick up nor drop off. John sullivan
John SKey would not fit into the drop box. The boxi originally got the key from was still open so I returned it there.
richard sThe UHaul app is absolutely horrible!!! It won't upload, it asks same questions over and over collecting same info you already entered multiple times. The app was miserable!! The van was great...

STEPHEN CI will never use your online booking tool again. It was very confusing and EXTREMELY time consuming. The actual pick up and drop off itself was EXTREMELY time consuming. Don't need that when you're ready for a day of moving. Not a good experience at all.
Sharon GI filled out the whole thing on line. Arrived at the time I schedule. No one was around. Office locked. I called the number on the door. The fellow came after he told me to go ahead and hook up to it. It was pouring rain. Fortunately I have had some experience with trailers. He came and asked me to take a picture of the hook up. He gave us a number to send it to. We went on our way. We tried multiple times to send it to the number we were given. It just kept saying “not delivered” The trailer itself was excellent!
Art CWe rented a truck online. Showed up to the Standish location. There was music in the office, and we could hear people talking. We knocked on the door to the office with no answer. We waiting there for 30 minutes calling the office over and over listening to the phone ring in the office through the door, with people talking and no answer. The truck was in the lot, covered in snow. After a frustrating half hour of waiting and calling, I called the Windham location to see if I could get some help. The woman in Windham said "yeah they are a smaller office and some days, they just don't open." I replied with "well, I've hired movers, which I'm paying and they are sitting at my house and I need an truck." She offered for us to go to the Windham location to get a truck. I had no other choice, but expressed that I'm not paying for the extra miles. She said she would have a truck ready when we got there. My husband and I turned around and drove to Windham. Upon arrival, the truck was not even started or cleaned off. Keep in mind we are paying hundreds of dollars for movers that are just sitting at our house during all of this. The woman behind the desk was very nice, and gave us $40 dollars off the price to accommodate for extra miles. Great, awesome. She then goes outside and cleans the truck off and starts it. We FINALLY get to take off after a half hour at the Windham location. Overall, I have used Uhaul many times and have NEVER been so aggravated with them. In my opinion $40 off is no where near enough for my time, aggravation, and an extra 1.5 hours of paying 4 movers. If certain locations are not planning to open that day, they should alert headquarters to not accept any online rentals. I even called the day before to verify that I could rent online for the next day. The guy Stan that answered the phone said I would be all set and to just rent online in the morning. So, I did just that and they decide to not show up. Not okay. Even though I could hear people talking and music in the office through the door. Moving is frustrating and stressful enough without all this other minucia. I will think twice before renting Uhaul again, that's for sure. Corporate needs to address this with the Standish location. I've reached out to others who have attempted to rent from them as well, and they have delt with similar experiences.

Bruce SApp interface is not great if you need to go back a step it does not work. Made me wait to be approved for 30 minutes to be approved. Received the truck on completely empty, put gas in it and returned with some has and was charged for gas fee even though I received the truck with less. Otherwise truck was clean and easy to use, good signs and helpful tips.
Abigail CThe drop-off location was convenient for us, and I am glad that it was available. Since we were dropping off the vehicle after closing, I spoke with the worker over the phone only. He was helpful. However, there were no outside lights to help us find the key drop box, or see the driveway entry from the road. Both of those issues should be addressed.
Alfred LThis location is extremely dirty and run down. When I called the day before to confirm my truck they insisted the truck was not for me and hung up on me. When we arrived the individuals who worked at the store were unkempt, the store smelt like pot, and there were no windows. Very unpleasant experience all and all.

Christopher Bthe company rented out the truck I reserved and I only knew because I called the day before with a question. then I was forced to get another truck from a different location over an hour away from me! then when I wanted to drop it off, the drop off location that was chosen BY THEM was closed or full so they tried to again make me drop it off at a location that was an hour away from me. to top it off the compensation they gave.... $50 off my $700 trip and 11 extra miles !!! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!

Deanna EWhen I picked up the trailer the guy smelled like Marijuana it was disgusting, he was clearly high as a kite, he didn't know how to properly enter things in the computer , he had to do it 3 times. Then When i was leaving he didn't put up the leg at the tongue, when i drove over a bump it scraped the road. Luckily I wasn't going very fast. And definitely lucky it didn't damage the trailer or my truck. I won't ever rent any thing from there again.
Brady CI’m pretty upset with my uhaul experience. I reserved the biggest truck available a week in advanced as well as a dolly and appliance dolly. When I got there there was only a 15 foot truck and no Dolly’s. I ended up needing to do 5 trips when one in the big truck would have been enough. I wasted a lot of time and now money because I’m being charged for way more miles than I would have used. I want to be reimbursed for the mileage not charged for it.
Josh PWe checked out a 15ft truck at 9am on Saturday, used it for 27 miles and returned the fueled truck 3hrs later to the same location. The attendant accepted he vehicle but never actually checked it back in, we tried to contact UHaul the next day but that wasn't easy, when we were finally able to get through the local facility was closed and there wasn't much that could be done. On Monday when the truck was finally checked in by the local facility I received my receipt only to find out I was charged $22 for fuel, called the facility and was told "we'll check it out and call you back" but still no return call. Once again my wife was right when she said I shouldn't trust people, so I'll pay your $22 if thats value you place on your integrity. My recommendation for others is to use caution, me, I'm going to Penske.
Anthony AMy experience was fine. Is just that I was disappointed that because the furniture was reduced priced, I had to rent a truck to do it myself. Shame it cost me $100 to do this. I wish u-haul had at least provided a milage discount whereas I am 67 yrs old. $100 for a local delivery of a sectional and automin? When I've done house loads thru you that cost made sense but not this time. Tom

Merhiella CI rented the trailer to bring home a golf cart from our summer home near Damariscotta, Maine which is along the seacoast. My original pickup location was Saco, Maine which is right off Route 1. Then it was changed to Brunswick, still ok. But the day before the rental, the location was changed to Standish, Maine. This location was 45 minutes off the 95 and took over 2 hours out of my day. This location is a joke. The only way I new it was a U-haul location was because of the trailers parked on the lawn. This is a bottle redemption location with a very small U-haul sign, a very small desk inside the warehouse and one guy. He was very helpful and courteous, but the location was terrible.
Marcel DIf you reserve equipment 3 weeks in advance, uhaul should have ur equipment ready at the location you reserved it at upon pick up. I got a call the day before my pick up saying my trailer wasn’t available at the location i reserved. I had to drive 45 minutes out of my way 1 way just to pick up my trailer. The point of a reservation is to go there, get ur equipment and leave. Not get sent to another location because uhaul failed to fulfill the reservation and take it upon themselves to move the trailer for the customers convenience.

James MBe up front about all the charges. We expected to pay $209. for this rental and ended up paying 265. And the customer service at pick up was pretty sad.
Kenneth HWe have rented here twice and were delayed both times due to computer issues. MY UPSET THIS TIME: * I needed to make a 2nd trip and had to pay for the extra miles because I had extra hands to assist with heavy stuff waiting at the house at 9:10 and they were going to arrive at new house at 6pm to help unload. At 10:00, they had to leave to get to a prior commitment(the help was only needed for two extremely heavy items!). Instead of waiting to load everything, we loaded up and had to make a 2ND trip out in the evening...COSTING US GAS AND EXTRA DOLLAR PER MILE.. Really U haul? Two times renting and both times computer issue and we couldn't leave without the truck? This is awful customer service and I have no issue sharing that U HAULS DELAY COST ME AN EXTRA 40 dollar. Once I get settled, I look forward to sharing an accurate review of how we had to pay extra and take the extra 1.5 hours to go out and make a 2nd trip because we HAD TO WAIT AN HOUR. Unacceptable yet again.
Donald RI rented a trailer to tow something home from far away. When I made the reservation, I set the return location for a place 1/4 mile from my house. Very convenient, right? Instead, I had to return it to this place, 20 miles from my home. I called customer service to attempt to change the return location, but they said they couldn't make the change. This location was just a dirt lot next to storage units. No one around. The self return via the website worked great, though...

Donald RI was charged for the Safemove Insurance which I declined. Maybe I take my business to someone else next time. I never take any insurance when I rent a vehicle. I would like a credit to my Discover card. If not that will decide for me whether to do business with Uhaul in the future.
David NThe mileage was different from what was on the original contract, he changed the mileage on my contract but never in the system so he charged us an additional 23 miles- they also had the wrong truck and told me he would charge me .79cents a mile, even though EVERY truck charges that but he somehow managed to charge us 99cents a mile. The place is in a redemption center and it is D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G bottles everywhere, trash gross. The guy could not spell good he told us so we had to type our address on the computer. He had a statue of a black person with a shot gun to their head in clear view. The uhaul was stuck in mud and we had to wait outside in the cold and rain for about 5 mins while he tried to get it unstuck. Worst uhaul place i've ever been too, and I want my money back for the charges I should have never gotten charged because of a lack of competence from your palce of business. EVERYTHING IS WRONG WRONG WRONG. He didnt have the hand cart I ordered online- I never wanted this place either I wanted to go to windham and nobody called me to let me know I had to go to standish- WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
james wI was to be able to pick my truck up at nine 9:00 am yesterday but when I got there there was not truck I was told that it had not arrived yet and to go home and they would call me when it came in,(very upsetting) So I went back home and told the crew that I had hired that the truck was not there and that I was to wait for a phone call letting me know it was there to come and pick it up so now because of this I had to pay this crew extra money for the waite on the truck,I think for sure That I will never rent another truck from U haul nor will I recommend U haul to anyone
Paulette NSelf pickup was a joke I was supposed to pick up my truck the my wife reserved at 9-930 and had to drive an extra 10 miles to a different location to pick up a different truck! I will probably never rent a anything from uhal ever again?
