The computer system was so slow to process anything. I was assigned a trailor originally that could have taken out my transmission thankful to owner that he noticed that and got me into the right trailor. The who process made me late for what I was doing.

Telling a customer that they needed to fold moving blankets in order to avoid a $20 surcharge was extremely rude. Your customers come to rent vehicles and have been moving things for hours on end—the least you can do after a customer pays a large amount of money for use of a vehicle and equipment is to fold the moving blankets they used. The proprietors of this location care about the money—not about how they treat their customers. Why? Because they know there isn’t any other U-Haul locations in close proximity and so they treat their customers accordingly. $20 to fold blankets!?! Nothing short of ridiculous.

Shane was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Lied about my insurance status on my unit. Charged me twice in the same month and refused me access until I paid the charge he made up. Then made obscene/crude comments in front of my fiance. Very unprofessional. Every other member of staff were wonderful though.

I have rented from this location several times. Staff is always warm and friendly. Recently, I made a reservation for a truck and somehow made a huge mistake wirh the date. Panicked, I hurried to the store and asked if they had a truck available for right then, the intended puck up time. I was able to get a truck and was soon on my way. Later when I returned the truck there was an issue with the fuel cost which was quickly resolved. I'm glad I chose to return to this location and will continue to use and recommend it in the future.

The new check in procedure of making the renter use an app to do the truck walk around by themselves is poor service and a pad idea. There is not good enough cell service at this location for the webpage to load so the system doesn't even work. Beside that, putting the walk through all on the customer stretches the service relationship too thin. Actually going out to the truck with the customer and doing the walk through together and making sure everything is in order with them and that they have everything they need before leaving is the ground floor of hospitality, good service, and safety. Your customers don't work for you, they expect service from you.

I am not familiar with the fuel gauge in those trucks. The paperwork stated the tank was "full". When I got in the truck I saw where the needle was, which was at the very end of the shaded area on the right side, but not on the far right line of where I thought a "full" tank needle would be if in fact it was full. So, because I was told it was "full" I figured then the needle would not move past the shaded area to the far right line. I was told I need to bring back the truck full like it left. So, at the end of my trip, I went to the gas station and filled the tank until it clicked off. Much to my dismay, they gauge needle went all the way to the right line. Which means that I put in MORE fuel than what was given to me. At almost $3.00/gal it's upsetting that I may have spent an extra $20 or more. I also rented 2 packages of furniture pads at $7 a piece that I ended up not using. So, with the gas and the unused furniture pads, I am about $35 out of pocket in addition to my rental. I told the people there at the facility and they didn't seem to care at all, and never offered to adjust my bill to make good on what I just outlined. Based on the lack of customer service I would not refer this location for rentals. I've rented at other facilities that were much more accommodating and worked with me as a customer when there had been some other issues in the past.

Update the website to show an accurate total cost for the rental truck. When selecting insurance it does not show accurate per day cost it shows only a one day cost misleading the customer thinking the cost is lower than it is as it states this is the total cost. I hope the manager Shane has brought this too UHaul’s attention as it was pushed back on me that I didn’t call location for an accurate price.

The General manager Shane Schmid, lacks any kind of professionalism, and is a con man and needs to go!! I will never refer anybody to this facility due to the way we were treated. The corporate office needs to be better selective on who's running there stores, seems to be many more poor reviews in regards to management at the Columbia CT UHaul.

Bernadette was especially helpful with the registration process as the app was not working properly and wouldn’t let me create a profile. I went back to the store and she did it for me on the store computer which was very helpful. She also did the tour and showed me the available units. I was charged for an extra day incorrectly and it took me a long time of arguing back-and-forth to get my money back and then they still wouldn’t give it back to me fully. The crew that work at the U-Haul storage facility in Columbia, CT were extremely helpful, kind and knowledgable about various donation centers in the area. My UCONN daughter stored her apartment belongings for several months and we rented a vehicle on both ends to transport the items.Thanks for your outstanding service!

Very friendly, clean bathroom, has overhead door at entrance area and carts in corridor, makes it super easy to bring stuff in/out. Prices are basically the same as other facilities that don't have those extras. Highly recommend!

Reserving the unit was quick and easy. The service I e person I worked with was very good and helpful, but I felt he was a bit condescending to me because I’m a woman.

The staff was friendly enough, but it took forever(!) to get a storage unit due to the person not knowing their job. When closing out my unit early the woman just said I did not get any money refunded and could’ve easily explained they do not pro-rate, but I was left to wonder and had to research it myself.

My items were in good shape and in safe condition at this UHaul however I received poor customer service. I was unfairly penalized for an error that was not my fault and was not provided a refund. I would like for UHaul to be better about communicating the information for setting up a storage unit and to double-check that the information they have entered is correct. This error on the part of UHaul cost me almost $100. I am not a satisfied customer.

I had to move unexpectedly and quickly. I learned of the storage availability when I picked up the U-Haul truck the night before. It was very convenient, as I didn't have to worry about finding somewhere else to store my belongings. I entered the store on a busy Saturday morning. Shane was very patient and accommodating, and was able to sense that i was in a difficult and sensitive situation. I was there to unload a 20' truck by myself. (My 14 yo son came later to help move things to the 2 storage units i rented). Shane offered water and checked on me periodically, and even helped to move some heavy items. He suggested locks for the units and plastic covers for the mattresses. In a whiwind day that was difficult, the kindness and compassion he showed made a situation that could have been traumatic not nearly as bad.

The doors and locking mechanisms worked well. The rest room facilities were a huge plus. Ground floor unit 1905 had occasional moisture at floor in rear, likely from rain or snow melt in parking lot.
