I had an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with U-Haul this past Saturday. I had reserved a 10–16’ truck at DDM Automotive in Monrovia, MD. When I arrived at 10:15 AM, the location was locked, and no one was there to assist me in accessing the truck. I called the number posted on the door multiple times—no answer, no return call. I contacted U-Haul and was rerouted to Postal Place in Urbana, MD. When I arrived, they had no record of my reservation, and the only available truck was a 26’, which I did not reserve. After another phone call, I was sent to U-Haul Moving and Storage of Frederick. In total, it took over 2.5 hours of driving between locations and waiting on the phone to finally get a truck. I was told I would be charged $0.79 per mile as a courtesy for the inconvenience, which would have lowered my total. Instead, I was charged the full amount with no discount applied. While the customer service reps I spoke with were polite and did their best, the overall experience was unacceptable. U-Haul failed to honor my reservation, cost me hours of time and stress, and didn’t follow through on the discount I was promised. I expected better from a national company and will not be using U-Haul again.

This Uhaul one way rental out of state trailer 4x8 being pulled by my vehicle with a $400 a hitch purchased and installed by U-Haul. Obviously put a uplift on dropped off to another state zip code 21703-Md - 29526-SC total charge $752.45, however, for a 25 year customer relationship is excessive, and should get consideration.Can U-Haul please assist me with a credit on my next rental?

There really isn't a place to park your personal vehicle while going in to pick up the trailer. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Top notch customer service. Wish I had gotten her name. We picked up on May 13th at 8:30am.

This location was decent enough, but my experience was bad. I rented a tow dolly to tow a VW GTI with. When I reserved it online it stated that this dolly would work That was patently false. The car could not get on the dolly because it required a large amount of ground clearance, which VW GTIs do not have. Of course I did not discover this until I drove a half hour to the car's location, and when I called for a refund I was told I could not have one because my rental had exceeded 30 minutes. So not only did I have to pay for a dolly that didn't work, I then had to pay for a tow truck to come get the car. Please correct your website to reflect that this tow dolly will not work for a VW GTI and other cars that don't have 6 inches of ground clearance so others do not suffer the same fate as I did.

Location did not go through correct measures to make sure the name on the reservation was correct. My name was tied to someone else’s reservation in error. I’d the individual was provided paper documents by U-haul they would have had access to my full name, Address, phone number and email. Which is unacceptable and inexcusable Team members should Always properly verify the name and additional information at the time of pickup and/or reservation confirmation to prevent these errors from happening.

The U-Haul staff and facility were both excellent. The people were both very helpful and friendly. The only problem I had was with the online electronic reservation system, which had my reservation but it was not immediately accessible. Also information that I had entered online had to be re-entered by the staff at the facility. However, they dealt with this problem in a very professional and courteous manner.

It was difficult to find our truck using the online pick up. I was convinced to add on moving a trailer for a $100 reimbursement and additional mileage. The lady told me it was close by. It wasn't - it was 30 min away. So that added one hour to our trip. Then it took almost 40 minutes to actually get the trailer. We couldn't get our truck through one section as there was a car blocking us. The employee told us we could do it - it was easy. It wasn't. He never offered to move it for us. Then he charged me $.01 that I had to put on my card. Ridiculous. Never again.

The front desk lady (Tasia) was very kind and easy to work with. However, the vehicle was filthy, it had crumbs, stains, and residue in every cupholder. I work for a rental company personally and could already tell the vehicle had not been touched up since the last or maybe 2 previous renters. To top it off, your assistant manager at the branch I picked up from wanted to charge me a $25 cleaning fee for a bag of bolts and a singular plank. That is absurd. I also returned the vehicle after filling up 4 gallons (which should have given me 1/4) but was charged an additional $28 for the refuel fee. This means that I was getting less than 10 miles a gallon which doesn’t make sense (unless theres something wrong with the emission). Taking care and maintaining the product that brings in customers should be a priority yet this is the opposite of what I experienced. I don’t know what values U-Haul holds when it comes to customer service, but this wasn’t even close to subpar. P.S There probably is something wrong with the emission because it barely went over 50 MPH without stalling at times. Again, maintain the integrity of your product.

I reserved a 6x12 trailer and when I got there the trailer had not been returned by the renter before me. They called the renter and stated they were needing the trailer longer than expected. I ended up up with a 4x8 trailer that took me longer to use because it was smaller. I was not able to get all of the yard waste removed. I think the staff should check to see if the equipment is available and if not then call the next renter to inform them of the situation.

Well-run facility but price is too high. I rented a non climate controlled 10x10 unit for over $200 per month. 10 minutes up the road I now have a climate controlled 10x15 unit for $175, and that doesn’t include the promotional discount. They also didn’t stop charging for insurance after I told them my homeowners policy covered storage units.

I am not happy that I was charged $20.00 after hour fee and $23.75 For gas!! They switched trucks and I never got new contract for new truck the gas on my contact was a between 3/8 and 1/2. I know what I paid for gas and $23.75 is more than what I would have paid. I was not told about the after hour fee or what the hours of operation for where I was to return it. I had till Sunday to return but I returned it on Saturday. I do not agree with this. Not I am a happy person

Warn us that the price we paid for the trailer will be over double when we bring it after U-Haul is closed. I picked it up at 6:45 p.m. one night dropped it off at 7:30 the next night, I clean it put it in line, put the lock on it It's all set Yes I got charged the next day for after hours delivery. That's new to me I rent these a few times a year this is the first time that's come up.

I rated this experience as poor because of the lack of clarity, transparency and poor communication with every associate I spoke with prior to moving my reservation from the Evergreen Service Center location to this 400-410 location. My initial location where I scheduled to pick up my rental truck to move was at the Evergreen Service Center location. It was scheduled for 1030am pick-up. I arrived at the facility at 10am and there was no attendant present, so I had to call Uhaul's toll free number to get some assistance with my reservation. It began to snow, and it was freezing outside that morning. And when I finally got a hold of someone, they told me I would need to complete my reservation through the app. My issue with that is, that could've been resolved prior to me arriving at the facility to pick up the truck, had I been notified. Instead, I had to complete this through the application and the verification process was terrible. I called several times to get assistance and the lady I spoke to was rude and even when I explained to her that it was freezing out, she did not even show any sympathy. After multiple attempts to completing the questionnaire, uploading pictures of my driver's license and also listing a contact for verification, it still did not work. I called and the next few associates I spoke to could not trouble shoot. After about an hour of trying to complete the process, I finally gave up and decided to call on last time and I spoke to another associate who directed me to go to a Uhaul location with an attendant. It was frustrating and a complete waste of my time while freezing out. Because of the situation, I was not able to begin my move until 1pm, instead of 1030am. I had to transfer my reservation to the 400-410 location. Upon arriving at the 400-410 location, Tameaka was very helpful and worked to get things correct for me. But again, the poor rating was the all-around poor customer service I received from the associates with home I spoke to on the phone. Unfortunately, I don't recall their names. There was no type of sympathy, and no one seemed to know what they were doing.

I did the rental for my unit online while I was picking up a truck. Got more storage information along with my unit number. Got back to the location with my stuff to put in the unit at 5pm just as the location was about to close. Went to my unit 1034 and notice there was a U-Haul truck blocking my unit with no space to enter. I rushed back to the office just in time a see all the employees heading to there car I informed them of the situation. The male employee telling me the office is close and there is nothing he could do for me to gain access to my unit. One of the female employee to the time to drive to my unit . While she was gone he kept arguing tell me I need to come back tomorrow because the location was close and there is nothing that can be done for me to access my unit. The female employee came back got the key for the truck that was booking my car bit and moved the truck. Worse customer service I’ve ever received from a U-Haul worker.

charged me $700 before i had to abandon the unit that I tried telling them for multiple months I didn’t need anymore. I was out of the state and they wouldn’t let me do anything unless I physically came in sign a piece of paper that took 30 seconds. The facility is very good, the customer service at this location is below average at best, customers are not a priority, I was charged for a storage unit the day I moved out, when I asked for a refund, I was told at the sales counter that Uhaul doesn't do that, so I call customer service who had to call the location and the operator was on hold for 15 minutes, I guess customer service isn't a priority as well. Another incident I was at the counter waiting for service and 4 associates were outside side talking while I waited 10 minutes, they didn't help until I went out and got them, I like Uhauls services which I use 6-5 times a year, I won't use location ever again and may look for a different provider

The purpose of long-term storage is just what it means. To be ridiculed by staff for directions to our unit is inappropriate. To be blatantly asked how can we not know where it is 1 your job to assist us. 2 be polite and professional. As a Walmart corporate Mgr I move alot with extended times in an area. Your rates went up drastically from account opened to closed. Your staff are a reflection of management, perhaps time for a change or deep look at turn over metrics. We asked about account reduction since we used half a month. We were told not my job or department. Office staff is the worst I've seen,that falls on management. Lastly we missed or even late in 4 years. Glad I'm not a uhaul Corporate manager to evaluate. If I was I'd remove all staff and the Management team. Lastly to charge us a full month at half month one would think be extended. Thank you for your unprofessional,courtesy with less then helpful staff.

UHaul replaced the garage doors last year. I asked to be called to witness.Twice I visited to make sure I would be notified. No call...they lost my keys & had to cut the lock. They threw all my stuff on top of each other & broke several pieces of glass from frames. NO EXCUSE !!!!!!

I choose average because I have discovered a lot of mice droppings and urine on my clothes and furniture. I had to throw them way. I suggest that they should be covered up in plastic or taped up on boxes so mice wouldn't ruin anything. But it has been safely secured for 11 years. Thanks

There was some rodent droppings in my unit even though there was a trap in the unit. No food was ever kept in there for what I stored. Also, they’ll charge you for a whole month after you moved out, even though you checked out on the day your monthly payment is due with plenty of free units still available. So now they’re collecting rent twice on the same unit. I will not be renting a storage unit from them from now on nor will I recommend.

Bad place to get a storage at. They have their trucks all in the way blocks off roadway so you really can’t get out. Staff was so unprofessional and rude. People never put their code in so be prepared to hear alarm going off every 5-10 minutes bad place. I would never get a storage unit from this facility again.

Goes right to call center and you wait over an hour then get someone that’s says that’s a local uhaul issue and that they’ll call the local uhaul store and then they come back and say no one at the local uhaul will answer!! Paid 104 for a unit went to pick up the items realized I needed more space was made to pay 127 for a bigger unit, then told I won't be reimbursed for the unit I paid for earlier I said ok then just give me an additional unit I was told I would have to pay again for that same unit because I was move out all this in the space of about 20 minutes I ended up paying $231 for a 5×10 unit.... wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy

The unit was clean, but I was surprised that it did not have any light inside. I also was frustrated that I could not call the location directly. Finally, the posted hours said it was open until 10pm, but I could not actually access the space after 7pm. During the business week, this was really inconvenient!

The staff here are amazing and helpful! I wish I had extra money to give them a bonus, they deserve it. The only reason I did not select excellent is the security. While we have to punch in a code for security, I would put in my code and frequently when I opened my unit, the alarm would still go off. The alarm is in place, but seemed to not serve a purpose as it would go off and nothing else would occur. For the short time I was there it was okay, and I was in and out of my unit weekly, so I was able to check on my belongings. If I had to leave it there without checking in on it for a period of time, I don't know if I would have kept my belongings there.

Your customer service is the WORST I have ever encountered. Your voice mail system SUCKS!..NO ONE PICKS UP THE PHONE. I would recommend people NEVER use u-haul... as I would only as a very last resort. TERRIBLE customer service!... period.

When we reserved our truck, it wasn't available where we reserved it. We found out, after waiting on hold for 30 min., that our reservation was switched to where we reserved our storage unit. We were never informed, but the customer service representative on the phone insisted we were. I was looking at my messages; I was not. After taking care of the truck, the unit we reserved was not saved for us. The only reason we got a unit was because someone called to cancel their reservation while we were in line. Never will we go through U-Haul again.

I came in to pay my storage unit rent and was told I was good till may 25th than got a late fee saying I wasn’t paid for may

My issue is that I couldn’t use the storage unit due to it being too small. I requested a refund, was told the GM was 99% sure I could get one but she had to check with corporate and would give me a call back the next morning. I did not receive a call back so I went in to the store but the GM was not there (surprise) even though I was told she’s be opening the store that day. I was told that storage was down nationwide so a staff wrote my name and phone number down and said she’d have the GM call me Monday morning to resolve my issue. I did not receive a call on Monday so I called the store and was on hold for 50 minutes. The representative that I spoke with entered an action claim and said someone would call me within 24-72 hours. I have not received a call but I did receive an emailed receipt showing that I was not charged for the storage unit, however I paid for it and I still have not received my refund or a call from any manager.

I rarely comment, but the two ladies at the service counter really were fantastic. Very helpful and friendly. And they tried to get me in and out as quick as possible. I really appreciated that. I would highly recommend them. And... they represent U-haul well. Very satisfied customer. Thank you.

Thank you for assisting me at the time of need. When I first opened my storage I lost everything during the last recession of 2008. I enrolled in College in 2010 and during the Covid-19 I landed a job in my career in Biotechnology and worked on the Covid-19 Vaccine during the Global Pandemic of 2020-2021...... Special Shout Out to -Russell Talley thank you for understanding my situation and working with me throughout the years even though you are no longer working at the Prospect Boulevard site. My personal belonging are in the same shape when I first stored them there. Thanks you, Shaunette Ambush

I’m sure there were financial reasons for dropping the trash dumpster service but it creates unacceptable alternatives for your customers needing this service to clean up or clean out their storage area. I was certainly willing to pay for the convenience.

Everything was great. The only thing I would complain about is the parking for uhual it’s very Cluttered and you can’t get through anywhere. They need a better System for customers parking there cars. The storage was kind hard to find even with explanation when getting my unit number the guy who was at the front desk never said that there was an inside and that is where I’ll find my unit number. So better explanation would have been great.

Hard to access the storage unit! There are too many vehicles their which are blocking the storage units. Employees are rude !

I've had as many as three units at one time and have moved/changed units at least 4-6 times over the years. This facility has worked with me, helped me switch units, and been generally friendly and cooperative over the 7 years I've been a customer. Even when short handed, they find time to be courteous and helpful!!

I recently went to check on a 10x15 storage unit a couple of weeks early and wanted to secure a unit. I was told that it was too early to come in later. Well I went later and no storage unit was available. I ended If getting a small unit. I am so disappointed with the customer service.

All of our interactions with the staff and manager were pleasant. The staff were friendly and welcoming and were able to answer any questions that we had regarding the storage facility. The facility was immaculately well maintained and cleaned. We had no issues with pests/rodents which we have encountered at other facilities in the past. We would absolutely use this facility again for long term storage.

Only a single suggestion/complaint - the alarm that sounds when someone opens a unit without having first signed in is painfully loud and likely could lead to permanent hearing loss. Since no one on the staff responds to these alarms, there would seem to be no reason to have them so loud. Otherwise, we were very happy with the location and the service provided.

I was over charged for my truck rental. My bank disabled my card because had excessive charges from UHal. I was told I could drop the truck off at the Uhal facility but then told I was charged 150 for leaving it there. Returned the truck to the correct facility. I was charged twice for the rental.

Elevator was broken on day of move out. According to staff, the elevator had broken the day before but the technicians had not been called out until that day to come fix it. The stairs do not lead easily to an exterior door, so my moving crew was stuck for an extra hour and a half carrying all of my belongings up and down the stairs and were unable to do an additional project later in the day as a result.
