This has nothing to do with the specific UHaul location, but rather complaints with UHaul corporate. I booked a 10' truck and autotransport for a Thursday pickup. On Wednesday, I get a call that they will not have either item on the day or store that I requested. The truck pickup in Lafayette was the time requested, and only a few miles further than my requested location, so this I did not mind. However, the autotransport, they would not allow me to pick up until Friday and in Crawfordsville (which is a 45 minute drive away). They refused to provide any sort of discount or earlier pickup. They also did not add any additional miles, even though I had to drive to a further truck pickup location and then also even further to pick up the trailer. The only thing they offered me was to have the trailer for 1 additional day...not the truck, but just the trailer. What am I supposed to do with a trailer alone and no truck to pull it...pull the trailer like I'm a horse??? For spending over $900 on this rental, it seems like they would verify what they will have prior to ONE DAY before I need them to make a move across several states.

Christopher LOne of the tires was lowish on air (40 psi) vs the other 3 at 60 psi. One or more of the tires was out of balance resulting in vibration increasing with speed. The tongue lift needed lubrication. I'm an engineer and figured out how to load and secure a vehicle; however the instructions could have been clearer about the use of the rear tie-down chain.

VALLERY LMore help at the desk! It took 45 -50 minutes to get the van having arrived at 8:00 opening time! Even at that time there were people waiting before us. The doors were open but no clerks for at least 20 minutes. When they did get in from their outside duties, they were very courteous and efficient. There just needs to be more help during college move in and out weeks for college towns. Otherwise we are extremely happy with U-Haul and would recommend them to anyone.

Roger GPlease have larger wrenches/sockets available on site for individuals with heavy duty shank (1-1/4) bolt on pintle style hitches. We had to make and cancel a reservation and go to a different uhaul the next day and put ourselves behind schedule and pay out labor because your 4111 wabash Avenue store was unable to be of any help. Had to and pay a mechanic near Lafayette to swap Balls out. Your manager at south st in Lafayette was supurb. He had knowledge on our specific tow vehicle that had a fuse out for the right trailer blinker. Would recommend this site highly.

It was move out weekend and extremely busy, but she was checking people out on two computers at a time, helping people who came in with questions, and was so nice while doing it. Was literally doing the work of 3 people at once. Not to mention she came out to hook our trailer up. She deserves a fat raise.
Jonathan AProvide pavement marking directions from trailer hook up / truck pick up area to Creasy Lane to get to the traffic light at Rt 26. You have very good markings into the drop off area, but the exit markings are lacking.
mark sI was very pleased with my hitch installation! I have had a couple hitches installed at other U Hual locations in the past and this installation was great! Ishmael went above and beyond explaining everything to me and even took the time when I picked up my car to show my how to remove my bumper cover to expose my new hitch. Everything was installed properly, on time and my car was taken great care of while in his care. Very Happy with the service I received!

MICHAEL SI had been at U-Haul for probably 5 years now and with them putting the mice stuff down in my locker was a good thing I know we killed it fuel in there and when I went to sleep out my unit had another good one in there,, and you can tell on a few different boxes that the mice were eating off the glue or whatever,,

STEVEN YI was there around 12:00 for my reservation Anna h if I’m not mistaken she was the one starting to after processing the payment I received a link and me didn’t know process I was heading outside to take pictures of my car thinking that’s what it was, she called me where the fuck you doing u cannot leave without me giving you the receipt the fuck , I’m like you probably had a bad day this morning don’t see why you’re yelling at me using all these slurs and she said stop telling about me having a bad day. another employee seems to be the manager did not say a word to until another employee come to assist me because I was lost in the process I also purchased a hitch for my car if go back I will see his name , he was the save the day for me.
JOEL MI recently rented a storage space on N. Illinois St. in Indianapolis that was a lot larger than a space I rented here in Lafayette, Indiana. The price difference was almost dramatic, because the unit that I rented in Indianapolis was about 119 out of 10 x 20 here it will cost me almost 150 for a 5 x 20 x 10 and that’s five wide.

BARRETT EIsmael was providing service well above the bar, and most definitely exceeded my expectations. This is what a real/true leader looks like and it's due to Ismael's service skills and willingness to truly earn business, that doors stay open on business. We live in a "me" and selfish society today, but this gentleman went ABOVE & BEYOND to insure the best possible experience, and all with the most sincerity. Yes, this simple U-haul experience, provides me with hope for mankind. Way to go, Ismael!! 👍🏽
BRANDON HWonderfully location. The employees at this location goes above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied and have everything you need for a safe moving experience. When I brought the truck back the employee was extremely wonderful told us to take our time getting our things out of the haul. We will be using you again forsure If I had to suggest just 1 thing it would be: where you return the truck or trailer have a broom so you can sweep and a trash can.
LINNIE AI attempted to contact this location the entire day (2-14-25) to confirm the availability of the truck. Since I was flying in from several states away being unable to speak to someone was very uncomfortable. When I did arrive to pick up the truck there was only one person working and I don’t think they cared much. When I took possession of the truck, it was caked in ice and snow (the snow was from the day previous) and the inside was dirty. By this time I was very frustrated with this location so I scraped the windshield with an ice scraper I borrowed from a passing driver and I left. I wish I could rank them lower than poor
DENNIS FI night dropped the trailer on Sunday and went back in the store at 7:40am Monday to deliver the moving pads/wiring harness. The female associate at the counter did not greet me when I walked up, she was not very friendly or helpful, simply telling me to drop the pads on the floor and they would email me a copy of my receipt later. She made me feel like I was an inconvenience to what she was doing.

Michael H | Overall ExperienceThis is the best storage facility I’ve used and the employees are always friendly. U-Haul Lafayette gets 5 stars from me. However, U-Haul the company has dropped that rating to a 3. I was disappointed that we had to buy a specific U-Haul lock when we had just bought a different U-Haul lock for the moving truck, thinking it could also be used for storage. The “free” month of storage offered to us was not in fact free, because we had to buy a different lock that we will not need again. This wasn’t told to us until after we had reserved the unit. This caveat should at least be explained in the “free month of storage” advertisement, so people are not baited with “free” and then roped into buying another U-Haul product. The best customer experience would be to offer a free lock rental for the free introductory month of storage as well.

DANTE C | Overall ExperienceTwo months in advance of my move from NC to IN I spoke with the manager and secured a large storage unit. U-Haul provided me a location where I could reserve the rental truck for my move. However when I visited that site in NC they advised me that they do not rent out trucks that large from that facility. I then found another U-Haul location that accepted the quote. I reserved a truck and car dolly for four days for a one way trip from NC to IN. I picked up the truck and dolly in NC. My movers loaded the truck and secured my vehicle. My grandson drove from NC to IN and we unloaded the truck at the IN storage facility in a day and a half, instead of the four days. I requested a reimbursement of two days for the early return delivery and my request was denied. I needed the storage unit from October 28,2023 through February 3,2024. The manager was then going to charge me for the entire month of February! I requested that if he would not give me a refund on my early return that he at least not charge me for January 29 through February 3 as a compromise. He agreed to that but then never entered it into the computer system. When I went in on January 29, 2024 we had to have the entire conversation and agreement re-memorialized. He entered info into the computer and assured there would not be a non-payment lock put on my unit. I requested a printed copy of what was entered into the computer. However, on February 1, 2024, my moving crew and I arrived to find my access card to the facility would not work and there was a non-payment lock on my unit. I went to the office and waited while staff counted money and closed before any assisted me. I provided the written agreement signed by the manager and the employee did come to the unit and remove the lock. We we allowed to load the truck but he couldn’t do anything to eliminate the issue regarding my access card. He did stay an extra 30 minutes before he locked the large doors and advised me I would only be allowed to use the single door, I would just have to keep it propped open. My crew loaded half the truck and we then went back to finish th remainder of the job on February 2. I was extremely disappointed that everything the manager said would not be an issue ended up being an issue. Additionally, early in November when I went to the storage unit to put something into storage there was a man with a backpack that kept loitering outside and also wandered around the inside aisles of the storage facility. I needed to use the restroom while I was there, there is only one bathroom in the facility. The sign on the door indicated it was “vacant” however the door wouldn’t open. Someone, which turned out to be the man with the backpack had to be sitting on the floor obstructing access. I advised my grandson that I was going to report the issue to the office and as I was headed down the hallway the man with the backpack came out of the bathroom. I still reported the incident.

I called the location the day before to confirm my unit and was told that specific units aren't assigned until paperwork in completed upon arrival but that they had units. When we arrived (after driving to 2 hours!) I was told that the system over reserved and they did NOT have our unit (note that I made my reservation 6 months earlier) the guy told me they did have some units but could not give me one since they had reservations on them???!! WHAT??!! The guy was very rude and dismissive and only called the Lafayette location to see if they had any units. Thankfully they did and we ended up there. They staff there was helpful, friendly and professional (in stark contrast to the other guy) The cost of the unit was almost twice the rate of the other location but it is climate controlled so I get it. I called U-Haul to complain about the situation at the West Lafayette location and was told that reservations mean nothing and units are sold on a first-come-first serve basis. WHAT??!! Why take reservations if they mean nothing and why not tell people this?? The agent said she couldn't do anything compensate for the trouble I had but emailed the manager of that location to report the issue and asked him to contact me. I have never heard from him. My rating have been Poor were it not for the positive experience I had at the Lafayette location. Overall my opinion of U-Haul has been negatively impacted by this experience and I will think twice before using your services again and will NEVER recommend the West Lafayette location.

I was told it would be no problem to arrive early and pick up truck, only to arrive and be told we couldn't get it, which cause problems with the rest of the day. The wait times in line both times we were there were long, too. If it were not for how clean the facility was and how friendly the staff was, I would have rated my experience much lower, but they improved the situation. Hopefully the problems will be addressed. I was told it was a common problem with the call center not checking reservations.

What's the point of reserving a unit for a specific date if that unit will not be available on that date? This was very irresponsible on behalf of Uhaul and could have put us in a bind, but luckily there was a different sized unit available that we were able to get. Then, there was trouble with trying to disable the security for my unit. This resulted in extra time trying to figure it out, and the alarm went off on us when we first entered. I don't believe any of this was the fault of the employee, who was trying his best to get things figured out for us. However, the whole experience was very negative and left me disappointed in Uhaul. If I reserve a unit for a date and it's confirmed, that unit should be available to me.

So you pay ONCE for their prepaid “50mi” and a SECOND CHARGE: to pump gas in the vehicle EVEN-THOUGH ITS BEEN PREPAID. And if you don’t there is THIRD CHARGE OF $15 if you don’t pump gas. LIKE WTF WE PAY DOUBLE FOR GAS. It’s a rip off honestly either precharge and leave it at that or have them pump gas in the vehicle and not double charge people. I would NOT recommend renting a vehicle from this company if that second charge is a norm!

Next morning when they were able to get drawer open, they didn’t reschedule reservation that was not honored and only put in we were using it for some hours. Priscilla B | Overall ExperienceBecause of the construction at our uhaul location, we had to move one of our two units to another unit. Besides the inconvenience of having to be present to lock and unlock the unit, the process was quite painless. The movers remained in communication with me and took pictures after they were done. They were very courteous! My only complaint overall would be the lack of lighting. It’s sufficient enough to see, but it was a challenge to see items when you’re looking for something stacked at the bottom of a pile in a unit. I had to use my cell phone flashlight. A light for each unit is probably overkill, but having lights more appropriately placed would be helpful.

Walked me through everything including the security system, which I would not have figured out on my own. He even helped me get some of my larger furniture out of the truck and onto a dolly, which he did not have to do but it was a huge help. He went above and beyond. Storage units are everywhere but his service is why I would suggest this location.

I will never recommend this particular location to anyone. Ever

Clifford B | Overall ExperienceI left because I could save $71 a month on a same-size unit. So I moved my things to Affordable Family Storage, right next door. Also, the ceiling above my unit dumped lots of little dirt and what looked like plaster chips on top of my furniture. The facility outside of my unit was clean, but the ceiling above my unit was not in good repair and left debris on my things. It wasn't so much that I'd move, but it was annoying. Yet when I learned I could have a better roof and save big $$$ each month, I bolted. Finally, I was told at the beginning of my stay with U-Haul, that we pay a month ahead, so imagine how disappointed I was at the end to learn you would not refund me my unused days after just paying rent through October 27th. I call that theft. As long as I live in Lafayette, I cannot recommend your facility to anyone. I am fully aware that eventually the rates will go up at my new unit. But until that time, I am saving $852 a year over what you charged. Since I am on a fixed income, THAT is a LOT of money!

I’ve stored there for the last 3 years and Kathi has been attentive. Caring and thorough. If there was a problem Kathi would quickly address is and rectify it with the best customer service possible. It outweighs the actions of others there. I would recommend anyone to store here just to have that same great experience that Kathi has provided.
