My unit was broken into, we reported it to the Manager as well as the New Hope Police dept. When the Police came to file the report they asked to look at the video camera footage. I was coming down the elevator to leave the building and the officer asked me to come and look at some footage. He asked if someone on the video had my items. I said no and we started looking through the footage together with one of the employees. The officer had to leave. I asked him if it was ok to stay and watch the video footage with the employee. He said yes, you will know your items better than anyone. As soon as he left the manager called and told the employee that I was not allowed to view the footage. I was shocked that I was asked to leave the building. I am not sure why you wouldn’t allow a customer that has been there for 10 + years to view the footage of the security cameras if you had nothing to hide. I asked why and was told that it was not allowed. The manager who was there when I reported the theft left and never did call or ask any questions just said that there was no sign of forced entry. They drilled out the lock and changed it with another lock. I have pictures of the shavings from the drilling of the lock. How much more evidence do I need? The manager never reached out, the only time she would say anything is if I saw her at the facility and asked a question. I personally think this was an inside job as whoever broke in had access to another lock to replace the one that we had. They also felt comfortable enough to go through all of our totes and take the ones that were valuable. They broke items that were family heirloom’s and took items of my parents who recently passed that are not replaceable. I called the regional manager and talked to her as well. She would not allow me to view the security footage either. Her response was I might see someone’s license plate. So she is more concerned about the person or persons that stole my items than her paying customer that has been there and paid rent on two units for ten years. Makes no sense to me! I do have some questions about why video cameras are not down each isle. I also wonder if you (U-Haul) does background checks on its employees. My guess is the answer is no as I ran a check on a MN website that came back saying the manager (or someone with the same name)had been charged with writing bad checks and theft. Just the type of person you should have overseeing a storage unit. I did at one time question her because the main entry door would not close. It was open all hours of the day and was told that it was because of the sunlight. I had a storage unit there for years (years before U-Haul acquired the facility) and never had seen that issue. I explained that to her and it went on deaf ears. I wish I would have moved my items out of the facility at that time. Unfortunately I did not. I am so disappointed with U-Haul and the response given. Everyone that I have told thought the same as I did. U-Haul should have responded better thinking that they would be one of the best in the business. After they hear the story they walk away feeling the same way as I did. We will never use another U-Haul storage facility. Maybe you should stick to what you are good at……..renting trucks and trailers!

First they stole a bunch of my things at One place then took over the place I stored my stuff and 1st day I come in they had a fire. Probably another dissatisfied customer. I got my stuff out ASAP. I do not trust U - Haul ever again!

U-Haul is the 5th party to buy this facility and change ownership and procedures. Each time service and quality of staf have deteriorated. U-haul is proving to be the worst. Crabby staff and clunky transition process.
