Make sure the trailer interior is clean. The trailer floor was filthy and I had to go buy a tarp so that the film on the floor did not transfer onto the items I placed in the trailer.

The trailer was in below average condition compared to past rentals at this location. Brakes were very weak, the trailer tongue was bent, causing the trailer to stick out more on the passenger side behind my vehicle, and trailer bed was full of loose roofing nails. Got the job done though.

When I finally got someone on the intercom, he was helpful but I ended up setting off an alarm. Also, it smells horrible and some of the other renters said there were issues with mice. Lastly, it would be nice if there was an ability to choose which unit was assigned to me. I might have paid more for a better unit.

I don’t recall the name of the young lady who arranged the trailer rental except that her tag listed her as the owner. In any case, she was ready to serve me even before I reached the counter. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and even measured the width of the trailer to ensure fitment of the item I would be transporting. Likewise, the young lady who accepted the trailer on return was quick and professional! This place is how every rental place should be managed! The place Rocks!

JUNE EThe truck was actually dirty, in the cab and looked like it probably hadn’t been cleaned in a while. While I am a repeat customer and definitely like this location, it’s convenience, competence, and customer service oriented experience; I chose not to rent the dolly because I do feel like they nickel and dime to death, which does make some business sense. However, they charged me a three day rental for a truck that was kept for two nights and returned on the third day. not only did they charge me for a three day rental, but they charge me for three days of renting blankets/pads. Hence what I mean by nickel and diamond mean. I’m not happy about that, it’s five dollars out of almost 900. Will that make me choose another location in the future? possibly. If you’re going to nickel and dime me over a set of blankets and call it a third day because I’m returning the truck on the day that a 48 hour rental culminated, I think your priorities are not in the right place. Furthermore, comments for improving the customer experience at this local level, they should tell you when you rent the truck to expect to follow some procedures that might take up to 15 minutes. Setting the right expectation is paramount for the customers impression of your business. They did not set that expectation. In fact I was and I’m sure all of their customers are exhausted approaching the dropbox to put the keys in, and only at that point faced with a poster that tells them of a website to go to or a QR code to click on which then leads them on a somewhat of a goose chase that tells them to go back to the truck, which is potentially half a football field away and begin a procedure that is somewhat cumbersome. Would not have found out that the expectation was that it’s gonna take me up to 15 minutes, except for the fact that I watched the YouTube video that was attached to the presentation on the website that they directed me to at the dropbox when I thought I was about to be walking away from this vehicle. on the corporate end have feedback. The user experience of the app in the checkout process was extraordinarily frustrating. I tried to make comments in a couple of different places, and it did not allow me to move on unless I hit no, indicating that I do not have any comments. Now, oddly enough, I called to complain to the corporate call center, and she told me that she did receive my comments. However, there was no indication on the website that they were willing to receive my comments and allowing me to move onto the next section. She did not see my comments that were made about the local location. Nickel and diming me over the blankets, making a two day rental into a three day rental to make an extra five dollars off of a customer who already felt kind of raked over the Kohl’s for a $900 weekend truck rental. They did not allow me to move on when those comments were on the screen nor did they allow me to finish and pay. When answering the questions is the truck clean enough for the next renter and do you have any feedback for the local office, I clicked on show check in pictures. It did not give me an opportunity to take those pictures, in fact, no matter what I did, I could not take them. Unless I Closed down and moved onto the next section with no comments. When I did hit finish and pay, it deleted my comments and made them go away. At this point frustrated with the lack of willingness to communicate with the customer or allow the customer to communicate with the corporate entity. I took the keys, put them in the dropbox and walked away from the deal, deciding to then call customer service and complain. Low and behold at that point I canceled my comment so that I could move onto the next stage and of course now it asked me to include a bunch of pictures that I tried to take earlier in the process when I was at the truck, which the app would not allow me to take while I was answering the questions was everything clean and appropriate for the next customer? After all of this, I had already taken pictures that I could’ve included in all of those questions in my phone, but of course the app would not allow me to use pictures from my picture library. Very disappointing very poor experience with the online check-in process, Total makes sense process for keeping customers accountable, but the end-user experience needs a lot of work.
GEORGE BManager Delaney gives customers her full attention and ensures their truck rentals and storage rentals go smoothly. We've rented many trucks at this location over the last 10 years, and she and her staff are true professionals. There were a couple of minor issues, but she and her staff resolved them right away. Very Happy with this location and we'll keep renting there. We also recommend them to everyone who asks.

CONS: $1000+ worth of items missing from unit and no one has an answer, as a long time renter from uhaul I am absolutely upset that it even occured and nobody has an answer? CON: I rented a 26 foot box truck to go from Springfield, Virginia to Norristown Pennsylvania, as well as towed a trailer that needed to be brought from Virginia to Pennsylvania. As a long time renter, I have experienced many different trucks the truck I was given to go from Virginia to Pennsylvania not only with all of my stuff from my storage unit, but the trailer that I was transporting as well the truck would not accelerate past 45 mph Even with the gas pedal pushed all the way to the floor. It will go to 45 mph and then I will get stuck on four RPM and in order to get the vehicle from four RPMs back down to a little bit under one to two I had to almost completely stopped the vehicle to get the truck from 0 mph to the 45 mph took about five or six minutes. The truck mechanically was not sound. It was not safe for myself and or my child who was riding in the truck with me? It sounded horrible. It shook the entire duration and it sounds like it needs a lot of mechanical work. I am extremely disappointed that I was given such a horrible truck that I was stopped by the Virginia state troopers as I was a hazard to other drivers since I was not able to maintain accurate speed That was posted on the highway and the state trooper wanted to ensure that I was OK since I was not able to maintain a safe speed for traveling on a highway a trip that usually takes me between two hours and 45 minutes and three hours and 15 minutes took me about 5 1/2 hours Solely because the truck would not go past 45 mph. Again, has somebody that is a long-term renter with U-Haul I would say I’ve probably rented about 30 trucks in the past 15 years. This has been the absolute worst experience of all on top of items being missing out of my unit I would hate to let one bad experience ruin the other 30 good experiences that I had so I truly hope that U-Haul is a company makes this right Thank you for reading all of my concerns and I hope to hear from somebody soon

They also allowed a customer to drive off with the wrong truck. The facility has no convenient dollies to use to move stuff. They claim they are either stolen or in someones locker. I plan to recommend this facility over any other in the area.

Upon noticing the price increase I called Uhaul, the employee discovered that Uhaul had apparently send the price increase notice to an email address that was not mine. The employee kindly fixed my email address and indicated that my sept. rent would be reduced by 15%. However, I did not take advantage of the discounted sept rent and checked out in aug. The cost for the small unit became too expensive to continue renting the storage unit.

I was told some people put them in the units . It would be helpful to put up signage that says carts are not to be left in units. Start charging people if they are hoarding the carts.

You get to rent it out again. I will not recommend you to anyone and will discourage anyone using your storage facilities. You guys come up with all of these new ways to take people's money. There was a disconnect between the laborers I hired through U-Haul’s Moving Help web site - they thought I had rented a truck; I thought they had one. Fortunately, one of the men offered the use of his van, so my move ended up very successfully. Also, despite the truck-renting computer being down, the U-Haul staff was able to extend my unit rental from one to three months. So the experience ended up very well. The guys from Elevation Moving and Cleaning Logistics were very professional and helpful, as were the U- Haul office staff.

JAY M | Overall ExperienceBuckle up for this story! Imagine this. You rented out your first home. You’ve packed up a 26 foot U-Haul truck of everything you own, and head states away with your newborn and wife. On the way, you call and verify your reservation for your 20x11 storage unit. Yay, Chloe confirms, the U-Haul storage unit is ready and waiting for you. She said she had to switch our units because the original one had stairs and we did not want that. Perfect. We are all set. We arrive to find out that Chloe lied on the phone. She never fixed the unit. And in the meantime, she gave away our unit. Chloe‘s reasoning was that other people arrived before us earlier in the day and they gave it to those people. Your employee Jackson did try hard to help us but said Chloe had literally just not done what she said she was goi f to do, and said Chloe completely dropped the ball and screwed us- that none of this would have happened had she done what she said she had done. But she told us she did it, never did, and in the time it took to arrive, gave our unit away. He said “all of this could have been avoided had Chloe done what she said she was going to do earlier today. Or at least called you if she (thought) she needed more information”. She claimed that she needed my drivers license but it was already uploaded on online. And later when she gave us a contract for two closets, she didn’t even ask for my drivers license which was the most infuriating part because that was her defense the whole time. Chloe went on to say that it’s not actually a reservation, and she can put us in a few closets that are up a flight of stairs and across a warehouse. We explained this would absolutely not work to fit our four bedroom house in. When those didn’t work- PREPARE YOURSELF - she actually, (and no, this is not a joke) had us wait 30 mins and said she found something - omg yay! She took us the ten minute walk to a 10 x 15 unit, (which would fit about half of our 26 foot truck), but we were open to considering it- but ouch, “the only issue was that the door doesn’t shut fully it stays like a foot off the ground so you can’t lock it. The last person broke the door. But you can use zip ties to shut it! But somebody could walk by and cut them. Do you want it?” We just blank stared at her. She was dead serious. We said “you DO realize the product you are selling here, to every person, is a secure place to keep your belongings. THAT is the product you sell here. Hunny you should not work here.” We spent two hours at U-Haul trying to figure out what to do and hours more at a hotel that night trying to figure out what to do. Just picture your wife and baby both crying in a U-Haul lobby with everything you own in a truck, and a 20-year-old girl telling you she’s really sorry that you didn’t come in for your “reservation” (that’s not really a reservation) earlier. We had to keep all of our belongings on a truck overnight, and Pray no one stole our truck, or our desk or bikes strapped to the back. Last week I received a letter from U-Hual saying the rate was going to $189 a month. It is no longer worth the price. I think U-Haul is a great company overall and your trucks are super-well maintained but I feel the significant rise in rates for storage was dishonest--i.e., getting someone in at a cheap rate and then jacking up the price a few months later after they've put all their stuff in your facility. I just cleaned it out yesterday but would have stayed had the price not be unfairly raised. It borders on unethical. Shame on your corporate leadership for being such shady and greedy operators!

The Herndon location is the worst - I had a free month reserved (one way trailer rental) and the 2 women who work there said it's not free anymore because "the general manager doesn't allow it" even though the dispacth and traffic departments at Uhaul both confirmed the first month is free. Someone from leadership needs to have a conversation with this general manager who is making up her own rules and losing customers.Overall experience - I will not use U-Haul again and will not recommend it unless they go to the Springfield location. It's not worth the headache.

Then I was given a replacement that was blocked in by other vehicles. The third truck had issues with the ignition locking up. When I went to do the online check there was no record of the truck rental. When I called the helpline, I was listed as having three rentals. To add to the issues I was charged a gas fee when I returned it with more fuel than what I checked out. I also was charged a cleaning fee when I returned the truck in immaculate condition. It took multiple phone calls and several HOURS to resolve the problems and receive reimbursement for the unwarranted fees.

At Mini U storage, though they seems nice, they are inflexible and some of my belongings are damaged by mice/rat. It is too bad U-Haul Port royal doesn’t have drive up units but still the best.

Customers should be greeted immediately; on multiple occasions I walked up to the counter and stood there for at least a minute with no acknowledgment of my presence by the person working behind the counter. Finally, *I* had to initiate the interaction or it would have been longer. On another occasion I went to the counter when no one was there. I waited for a couple of minutes and then I called the store on the phone to see if that would get anyone to show up. It didn't. Finally, someone walked in from outside with a bag of fast food. Again, no greeting to me or apology for me having to wait. Good customer service is the key to any successful business (ask Disney or Nordstrom) and can be the difference between having a good operation or a great operation. People need storage facilities and rental vehicles so you will alway have customers, but if you want to take your location to the next level, make good customer service a priority.

This meant my unit was locked by staff when I first came back to the unit. Did not receive an access card. This meant my alarm went off each time I opened my unit, since the code check in system did not work properly—there was no way to search for my unit and then enter my code, I only had the option to enter my code, which ended up disarming a different unit based on the first person using the same code alphabetically. This is hugely problematic. Never once saw staff check in when my alarm went off. Unfortunately, most of these things are par-the-course for UHaul, which is why I gave an average rating. Storage building was well maintained and appropriately accessible. Plenty of parking.

Sam G | Overall Experience1. Had evidence of mice. Droppings and what looked like they/it was chewing stuff to make a nest. 2. I lost my key and had my lock cut off. They didn't have any disk locks left, so they gave another lock. I came to my unit which is about 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic and my unit was double locked. I was pretty angry about that. I called the next day and explained this to a female employee who said they would remove the lock so that I could remove my items and move to another facility with better customer service. I told her I would be there that evening and she said she would have the other lock removed so I could take my stuff. She did not apologize for the staff being to lazy to call or email me advising i would need to stop by during business hours to switch out locks. I arrived after my 30-40 minute drive to find it was still locked. I contacted again the next day asking to speak with a manager, was told there was no manager to speak with and that they would remove the lock, employee did not apologize for my wasted trip. I didn't trust the staff to remove it so I waited until weekend to ensure someone would be there if they had not removed the lock. When I arrived it had been removed. I wasted 2.5 hours of time and gas.

While the employee offered to “set me up” with two 10x10 units not next to each other and one on the 2nd level, this was not what had been reserved and as it turns out, one of the units assigned was a “ghost unit” that wasn’t really there but showed up in the system. After searching for the unit and going back to the office where there was now a line of 15 people waiting, I got to enjoy that fun. A different employee then corrected the ghost unit issue so now I had to put my items into two separated units vice the one large unit that I had ‘reserved” a month earlier. What’s the point of letting people think they are reserving a unit online when they are unavailable?

He couldn’t find the uhaul storage facility I was returning the truck to, which was where my storage units were located and already verified I could return the truck there. He was supposed to set up an open ended reservation, but ended up assigning a returning uhaul facility, 1 hour away from my location. He didn’t explain anything about the truck and when I went to pick it up, the hood was up and he handed me the key and was walking away. I had to ask him to put the hood down and ask to do a walk around to see any damages the truck already had. I asked something about the contract and was told, “the smart customers read the contract”

John was a key player, and helped me unhitch, and stow the trailer (I already purchased a container, and had the trailer for 3 more days) When I came back the next day to empty and return the trailer, I was foolish, and forgot my key to my trailer. Rich was a baller here, and (after verification) used a grinder to help me open my trailer and access my stuff to store. John, Delaney, Rich: Life-Savers. Team Springfeild Uhaul: Dopest ever. The man at 645pm last night just wanted to leave and charged us for the lock - didn’t bother to look up our account - and just added us as a new reservation - additionally, on top of that, I was returning a 20’ truck tonight too !! All the business I have given you the past two weeks / and given you great reviews / I would expect the same service last night and it was the worst!! I would expect some sort of discount with everything I have with your location - but more importantly, I would expect the same great treatment the ladies at your facility provided previously. The whole process was not what we experienced previously from your location and it completely turned me off from continuing to use your location.

I returned the truck between a half and quarter tank. I was right at the facility, they could have brought this to my attention and I could have pointed out the gas was correct per my contract but instead the next day I tried to purchase gas for my personal vehicle and my card was declined all to find out that I was charge $58.50 without my knowledge and now must wait 3-5 days for a refund. I was also charged mistakenly charged $22 and also need to wait for a refund. All of there issues could have been avoided but instead Uhaul is continuing to cause me hardships.

We are happy with the fact that the facility provided us boxes and they allowed us to throw away some of our belongings at the dumpster on site. Overall the experience was average due to the rodent issue, but the facility assisted us in resolving the issue. We are now going to wait for the claim to be finalized by Uhaul so we can be compensated for the glass shelves that the Uhual employee stepped on and broke inside our storage unit. Thank you!

Availability of parking is a nightmare. Also having a storage warehouse on one side can make it easy to get blocked in. Sometimes the security code to arm and disarm the units alarm was faulty, meaning you had to go back and put it in again. The alarm issue happened multiple times in a 2 week period.

I would highly recommend going here for moving and storage needs. It was one of the best customer service experiences I’ve had which was so helpful after a long across country move.

Staff was extremely rude when I needed help on 06/20/21 while I was clearing out my unit. I asked to speak to the manager. A staff member told me he would go get him. Ten minutes later, no one had come to the storage area to help me, so I walked around to the office only to find that the entire staff were rushing to their cars to leave. The manager would not make eye contact with me when I called out to him, and I HAD TO STEP IN FRONT OF HIS CAR TO KEEP HIM FROM DRIVING AWAY. On top of that, he was extremely rude when I insisted that he help me access my unit. Completely unacceptable customer service, and I won't be using Uhaul Storage in the future.

The loading dock and utility carts made loading/unloading easily Half the work. Only drawback: the back is so busy and congested that backing a truck into the loading dock spaces can be a challenge....perhaps a way to enforce people not parking in front of the docks to give more room for the trucks would be nice, though I can understand the difficulty based on volume of traffic. Huge shout out to the young lady (blond w/ braces) in the office - she was always courteous, very knowledgeable and competent, and she managed all the other workers with great efficiency. Having worked with her at least 5 times, it was clearly not a one-time deal. In my career field, I promote rockstars like her and put them in charge of my most important projects. A secondary kudos to the shorter gal with piercings, who was also great, but I worked with her just the one time.

That was later made right. My complaint is that when we were in the storage unit someone tried to unlock their unit without having first swiped their card at the entrance and a VERY LOUD alarm went off. The alarm was a decibel level that caused hearing damage. My husband's ears are now ringing nonstop and the tinnitus is interfering with normal lilfe. It has been a week and it appears that the damage is permanent. We are furious. No uHaul people checked when the alarm went off so it was pointless and yet it caused real damage to my husband's hearing.

This is the second time that staff members made an error since my original move-in date in May, which caused unnecessary stress. I also wasted a lot of time rechecking my online account for updates. 2. If I hadn't thought to check for the promised free month on my account before my last visit and if Craig, the GM, hadn't been there when I went inside, I believe I would have had to file a complaint. The guy standing next to Craig at the counter sounded like he didn't believe me when I explained that I had been promised a free month both via email and on the phone after my van rental. 3. The unit is supposed to be climate controlled. I was unable to visit it in all of the months between May and October to check. When I went there twice in October to deposit items and then pick up some items I forgot, it was humid inside and musty smelling. I can only keep my fingers crossed that my belongings, especially any paper and fabric ones, come out of it okay. Otherwise, this U-Haul storage is definitely a place that I recommend for self-storage. It's large and has plenty of units. There are bathrooms on each floor and an easy-to-use elevator. They offer a variety of carts. It has an excellent security system. The staff are also informative and friendly.

When our U-box was being shipped, we received an email offer for one month of free storage. My wife called and booked a storage unit, but later it was clear this reservation was made (I got a call to schedule U-box delivery which of course was not necessary, and then I had to reserve a storage unit at the U-haul facility when I went to access the U-box). Overall the process of accessing the U-box and transferring belongings to a storage unit was not clearly explained, and there seems to be a communication disconnect between the storage rentals team (front retail area of the facility), the shipping/receiving/warehouse department and U-haul’s central customer support hotline. In the end, we accessed our U-box and moved belongings to our new storage unit fine, we were just confused about the process beforehand.
