One of my locks to my storage unit was replaced without my express permission and no notification was provided. I was not given a key to this new lock on my storage unit either. This issue was resolved but should have never happened without consent or notification.
Joshua M | Overall ExperienceWhen I arrived the manager couldn’t find his keys, took him 5-10 min to find, at first was very nice but I had to bring the truck back due to I had an appointment, he kept calling I told him I would need to keep the truck over night, but the truck will be parked there until I am able to grab it for the purpose I need it for. He said fine bring it back by 10am. At 8 am he is calling me because I have the key but the truck is there! I looked at the reservation and it said return by 2:30pm so I called him back, and stated I may need it for a little longer. He said call U-Haul and hung up!

Tatia TWent to get a U-Haul and the person had the door locked and stated because she was the only one there. we had a reservation there. There was no person there when I went to return the U-Haul and I shouldn't of had to go on the app during store hours to return the equipment. The equipment already had a low right driver side tire that I had to inflate twice. The lights on the sash were on. To be honest I wouldn't go there again for a U-Haul.
DANIELLE MThe trailer was picked up at the 400 Orchard Drive location on Saturday at 1pm with a return time of 1pm on Sunday. I tried returning the trailer Sunday at 10am but the store was closed due to the power being out. There was a sign on the door about the closure and to either use the app or to drop off or pick up equipment that day at the 1500 Charleston Highway location. I brought the trailer over to the new location, explained to them what the sign on the door said and the employee who was processing the return let me know i would receive an email in a few minutes confirming the return and let me know it was all set. 3 hours later I still hadn't received the confirmation and I called and spoke with customer service, explained to them what the sign said and that I still hadn't received my confirmation that it was returned. They let me know it hadn't been checked in yet and they would note the account with what happed and that it was returned earlier that morning and I wouldn't be charge for a late return. The next day I still hadn't received the email so I called back and spoke to the store, told them about the sign at the original location and they said the trailer hadn't been checked in yet and they would need a manager to check it in because they would need to determine what time it was returned first and they would call me back when it was done. They called back and let me know that they couldn't find the trailer. I told them where the employed parked it (the very first trailer right outside the door) in the line of all the trailers so they didn't even bother to look and after a long hold they "found it" but told me they needed to charge me an additional $190 fee for returning it to the wrong location. I told them again about the sign and the other store being closed and that I would not be paying an additional fee for dropping it off at the wrong location because that is what i was instructed to do per the sign on the door at the original location, which i have now told them about 4 times. The employee made a disgusted sigh because I wouldn't pay the additional fee and needed a managers approval to remove it from my receipt. The whole process was a complete mess.

DENNIS TAfter coming in person and reserving the car dolly. After 3 conversations over the phone. After CONTINUOUSLY being reassured that everything was in order, we get there and utter chaos. Employees at this location were more interested in their personal conversations than the customers in their lobby. Then the manager has to take over and he has to "re-do" everything, contradicted everything he had said before and cost us 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel time. This is the 2nd time we've used this facility and will not again. We will drive out if our way to use another U-Haul. Plus now we have the issue of this "manager" charging 2 credit cards for the same service. Extremely poor customer relations. The manager was a complete jerk..

JUAN PThe windshield was so dirty when the sun came through you lost all sight. Someone had actually drawn what appeared to be a heart on the windshield which further hampered vision. There was no handle on the drivers window to lower allowing to adjust mirror. The drivers seat would not adjust up so I had to stretch on my tippy toes to reach the gas pedal. The check engine light remained on the entire time. Not my best adventure with U-Haul.

marry bI received a text message with a guaranteed pick up time. It wasn’t available when I arrived because out notice they transferred the reservation to a location about 30 minutes away (not counting for traffic on Friday before Christmas - so probably 1 hour each way). I was guaranteed for the next morning at the original location. Again upon arrival it wasn’t available. Both times one was on the lot but held for someone who wasn’t there but had scheduled a truck and trailer. All I can assume was money talks. He who spent the most money got the equipment. Guess my two reservations and being the first person there didn’t mean a thing.

MARK CEven though I’d booked a ten foot van, when I arrived, all they had was a cargo van. Because of this, I had to make twice as many trips, which doubled the amount I was charged for mileage. When I spoke with the manager about getting some of the money refunded, he, along with every other person working there, left the main office for twenty minutes. I had to leave because people were waiting on me. If I don’t get a refund, I’ll be going to Penske for my next rental.

Charlie GI was disappointed in the staff. An older lady started helping us and she had a little trouble with something and then another young lady. He said I might’ve had act like she had an attitude about helping her, and then when it came to hooking up the trailer. She stood there and watched when I backed into a pole and made the comment to my friend that ate other people have done that already, so you should put some tires or something around them so that doesn’t happen because I make number nine and I am not a happy camper other than that it was a good experience
TERRY GThese guys are great, I had a tire go bad in the middle of nowhere and 1800 uhaul said it might be a day before they got to me, they reccomended a local certified uhaul tire shop and had me going in minutes, not hours. They also reimbursed me for the cost of the tire. Will always rent from them. Thank you again.

ORIE B | Overall ExperienceThe uhaul fuel tank was basically empty the equipment I requested over a month in advance was not available. Ridiculous nothing was prepared especially the tank being empty when I got it. I'll never use uhaul again. The guy was nice though.
RAEJAH REverything was great except the cargo van seats were filthy with stains. We put towels down before we sat on them because we didn't know what those stains were from. Maybe clean the seats before renting to someone else? Other than that, no problem with the van at all.

We already had waited 2 hours bec. we'd read 'open 9 am' online. Then you walked up to motion you were open. We thought maybe you were just running late. Once walking in, we were not greeted nor could see anyone. After calling out 'Hello' 2-3 times, the lady finally responded with either a hello or I'm over here - I forget now which she said, but I still didn't see anyone. Once I realized someone was sitting, I realized, "Oh, she must be handicapped and can't walk.' I was on HOLD with U-Haul during the next 40 min. I was on hold to designate your address with U-Haul 45 minutes. I actually called back after the long wait and pushed another option and was helped within 10 minutes --- for a simple 'add a drop off location' as we'd been asked to provide. I noticed the sign on the restroom door "SORRY. OUT of ORDER". I asked Amber is there was one available. She said she'd put the sign on there so that people wouldn't use it and 'mess up my bathroom'...but that I could use it bec. it really worked. It was clean, but still... My complaint is not on the appearance of the facility, but the rep. She did not act pleasant or courteous the entire time the 3 of us were there. At some point, I asked her if she was the OWNER. She stiffly responded she was a part owner in the company. My husband told me later he's seen you every time he's been there, but never her. I said, 'If she's the owner of this franchise, maybe she's not here too often.' and maybe that was a reason she acted disgruntled to be there the entire time. When she came out to check out the truck return, the other gentleman that pulled up his little truck, I asked him to pull further in so my husband wouldn't be blocking the drive, which he did; I also explained to him I didn't want him to think we were cutting line in front of him bec. we'd already been there 45 min. He was fine with that. Amber came out along with me. As soon as she checked the mileage and front end, she went to check the other man's truck in. We were surprised. My son asked her, "Are you going to check the back of truck or should I leave it open?", assuming she'd forgotten. - we had a stack of blankets that we'd not used and the dolly. She replied that she had to check the 2nd guy in first, then she'd be back over. REALLY? IS this the way it's done??!! We were tired from our moving in too. Since we do business with U-Haul and your location, we like to get along - but it's nice when, as a customer or guest, to get a smile or friendly reception, which we did not. In your business, people may be happy about moving, but usually worn out when returning a truck --- so kindness aka great customer service would have been appreciated. END.

Michelle R | First ImpressionsThe staff present at the location was always very friendly however every time there was something wrong I was always told the manager needed to be call and that the manager would call me to follow up and rectify the situation and that never happened! I was charged for something I was told the manager would fix and update because of an inconvenience on their behalf when I initially attempted to move in. Seems like a manager needs to be present during all operational hours to avoid situations like this or train the workers properly! The inside of the unit was not ideal. The ceiling was dirty and caving in with some holes in it and there couldn’t have been any pest control because I had to take my own bug spray frequently. Moved out a week after I made my monthly payment and was told I wouldn’t be prorated for the 3 weeks that I won’t be in or no longer have access to the storage unit.

Staff both in person and on line were SO SUPER helpful with the changes I needed to make. My only complaint is being charged for the month of storage that should have been free. I will be getting to the unit tomorrow to discuss it. :)

I was located at the WEST Columbia site in SC of Orchard. This site had a .problem with bookkeeping. One time they accidentally got the locks switch on my storage so they had to issue me a new lock because they didnt know which key belong to my storage, I paid my storage off August 2019 and removed all my items out of this storage unit into my new resident. Almost a year later July of 2020 they contact me saying they about to sell my unit. I explain to them I moved my items out in August 2019. They state its items within the unit and because they found a letter with my name on it, the items must belong to me. I explained that when I cleaned my stuff out it did become dark. I may have accidentally left a paper or two because it was dark but my items was removed August 2019. How could I have a storage there for an entire year and it never got sold, I never got a letter or a call until July 2020, That it was an error.
