About a year ago, there was transitioning of what it appeared to be new management/staff. The service was much improved. Any issues were addressed in a timely manner. I don't recall the womans name who appeared to be in charge, but she was on top of things and was excellent. In the past 5 months there has been a deterioration in employee capability and willingness, capbility to assist with issues at hand. One minute, "the manager will call you within the next few days" (which never occured and I had to return to the office 4 times),. I was told that she is so busy and has so much on her plate. And then the next time, being able to assist me right then and there. (same employee). Charges for unit I was not using. Charging for 'breaking the lock of", which employee was not able to do. The charges for the cutting the lock off, was reimbursed back to me, but I am unsure of the charges for another unit. I also had made a request, only to have the employee flat out lie to me,. I have a large unit, have had it for almost 2+ years. I am planning on selling most items, downsizing and minimalistic living. I need to go through the boxes, bins and price, take pictures, label, etc. I asked if I could rent a unit close to my other one and as I go through my things, keep the 'to sell' items separate, start placing my things in the new unit. Otherwise I would have to pull everything out at one time and have things laying outside and then replacing them into my now rented unit. It would just take a day to accomplish this but is weather dependent. I was able to do this another time. The employee said, "there are no units available", which I know to be untrue. I was able to see which units were available and a unit 2 doors down had the zip lock saying the unit was ready for rental. i have been a customer for years, on and off. At this time, when I go through my things, I may just transfer my things to another facility. The boy/man who was not helpful at my very frequent visits, used to be a model employee. In addition, I left once when I stood and waited for 20 minutes and no employee came out to assist me. I heard the employees talking and they were well aware that I was there. Time for new management or?? Just so disappointed.
LORI S | Overall ExperienceBooked online. Did not let me know I had to pay for mileage. First truck had a burned out head light. Second truck was good. Truck with burned out headlight should have been checked before it was given to me. My checks caught it. 8:00am appointment to pick up but did not get out of the pickup location until 8:35am. Faster turn time would be nice.

Dakoda ZThe truck I rented didn't come back to the location, when I needed it. Uhaul called me an hour before and gave me other options and comped me with the miles to get back to Merrill.
JONATHAN Badditional staff if possible. Both rental experiences had courteous, quality staff for check in and check out. When checking out both times, it took a lot longer than checking in. Only one staff to cover rental contracts and phone. Both times checking out recently, there were at least 4-5 customers they had to work with before I could check out and return the key.

DENNIS TI checked "yes" for the questions because any issues I had were not with U-Haul directly but rather with the contracted mover who loaded my belongings prior to moving. He called at noon the day of the move to say he was still looking for a second person to help him but that he'd be over "later" one way or another. At this point my entire apartment was packed up and my lease was ending in less than 24 hours. He then called a few hours later to ask if the move "had to be done" that day or if we could put it off until the following day. I made the reservation six weeks in advance. The move had to be done that day. I told him such and he huffed and puffed and complained about the weather and the fact that he had driven so far to come do my move etc. I told him I was happy to cancel with him and find someone else to do it, which he insisted I not do. So again, there I was, 2:00 in the afternoon on the day my move was scheduled, with no mover in sight and a guy on the phone saying he can't find anyone to help, he doesn't want to do the move that day, but that I definitely shouldn't cancel because I likely won't be able to find anyone else. He showed up at 3:30 and didn't leave until around 8:30. He broke multiple items before they even got loaded into the box. It was terrible. Once the box arrived at its destination city, I got a call from the local U-Haul location wanting to schedule drop off of the box. I sent the rep photos of where the box should go as she requested, and she insisted that the spot was city property and that I'd need to get a permit. But it's not. It's our private parking spot on our private property. She insisted I was wrong. I explained to her multiple times that the space was in fact on private property. I wound up contracting with movers to deliver and unload the box because if I had to speak with U-Haul again I was going to scream. The movers to delivered and unloaded the box were the only positive part of this experience. They were fast, professional, and kind. I would hire them again privately in the future. The experience was terrible and I will never use U-Haul again. I liked moving with a pod or box rather than loading up a truck, so I will certainly do that next time I move, but not with U-Haul. If I can't trust U-Haul to suggest a competent mover - the actual human being whose job it is to handle my belongings - to show up on time with both movers, then I'm not interested. If I can't trust U-Haul to not argue with me on the phone about my own private property, then I'm not interested.

KENNETH PAs we had never rented a trailer, better in person education at the time of pickup would have been very helpful. Adding a pin to the hitch so the hitch could not be dislodged from the ball would be very helpful. Safety chains did not successfully keep the trailer attached to the trucks either.

STACY BI asked questions and never did get them about the billing practices, was told by employee they “didn’t understand it either”.. how does a 19.99 can become $99? I was told it was because I went over 100 miles or something, but $19.99 plus $.49/mile at the rates charged means the first hundred miles that “were free” after the rate change to $99 means I paid $80 for the first 100 miles. Then was charged $.49/mile for the additional miles. $.49x 100 =$49, not $80. This is my second van rental - I didn’t look as close last time as I was in a hurry…but you are ripping ppl off. In my case, I have rented the vans to move my father to assisted living/clean his house out- this time was because he passed and I needed to clear assisted living out. I do f need U-Haul to rip me off. I’ll rent something else next time.

David KHow would I know if the facility was clean or not? I have not been there yet. It took me almost 3 days to get the storage unit because the link they kept sending to my phone didn’t do nothing for me, but make me go round around. It’s been nothing but a hassle. and I’ve had to rerun the truck because it’s been so cold out. I can’t find nobody to help me move.

antionio wThe only thing I’m not happy about is , I told the guy when I brought the trailer back that I didn’t use the furniture pads. He said he would send my adjusted receipt. But I never received credit for the 2 bars of pads I didn’t use.

THOMAS SThe place to enter wasn't clear and it's on a busy street. There are multiple points of entry, vehicles parked along the street, and then a wide area with curb that doesn't have vehicles and it's even more confusing because of the storage units. There's just a lot going on visually and there's a lot of traffic. For someone dropping off a rental that is unfamiliar with the city-- it's stressful. Update the "enter here" sign with a giant arrow like the big boy sign or find a different place for all the trucks along the street. I recieved friendly efficient help, the rating for the guy who helped me is five stars out of five but the lot gets two stars.
LAURA MPlease MARK THE TRAILERS that can't be moved outside of the area. It is confusing and even the attendants don't know the difference at times.
KEVIN Ktrailer broken u haul could not fix it at that time used it broken no refund no money off has said last week when I rented it it needed to be fixed bronek rachet strap could only hold 1 wheel down on trailer.

JAMES KYes, we rented a 5" x 8" trailer that we pulled with a Toyota Rav 4. We used our own ball and hitch. The noise while pulling the trailer in the vehicle while the trailer was empty was insanely loud and we drove over 130 miles trying to make the best of the loud noise. When we returned the trailer, the U-Haul staff told us our sleeve likely did not have a tight fit and that was the cause of the noise. My suggestion is to provide customers a list of what might be causing a loud noise and how to remedy it. Thank you!

And calling the helpline for U-Haul wasn't very useful because the person couldn't tell me where that other keypad was to log in for the day we had to search for it.
