RYAN LI am happy I chose to use this U-Haul. I have stored my belongings there since 2023 and the move in process was seamless. Payment was easy and I could always get in contact if I needed anything. The move out process was just as efficient. I am grateful for the U-haul team for working with me to get my unit emptied and settled up. U-haul will be, moving forward the only storage and rental truck company I use. Their pricing is fair and the rules and regulations are good for the safety of everyone's things.

kevin m | First ImpressionsI would say the hidden fees were out of control, but that would imply that the fees were legitimate. Not only were they hidden, but they were blatantly fraudulent. For one, I got charged for 4 gallons of gas even though I drove 8 miles total. I was charged more in insurance than quoted originally, etc. Overall my $45 bill became $135, even though I broke no rules, returned it on time, and only drove 9 miles (I predicted 8).

JOSEPH CThis location had a terrible staff that has not customer service skills. From lingotes hours to get into unit, staff having attitudes and no common sense, to basically saying they would damage your car if you parked in an empty spot and would rather you block or use a garage that you could only get into if you first went inside to open it. Not every customer is moving massive items in and out of an every visit basis. When tried to reach out to manager, instead of her calling she sent a generic email that felt like the rude worker sending from her email. If you never have any issues to all of a sudden there is a problem after months of no comments, on time payments and multiple visits to having a problem with the staff something should be done at the store not the attitudes to you patron’s. Lastly on move out. The person was more worried about leaving 30 mins before closing than assisting with getting unit closers. Another point of reach customer service not attitude. By the end of the interaction she agreed to have the morning staff follow up and close out until. This should be offered first not last. Another problem is we moved out on October 29th and just got closure on Nov 2…….. it takes you several days to close a contract? Lastly security was off due to not fixing a garage door in a timely manner.

Every time we went, there were tons of paint flakes and ceiling pieces on our stuff. However, when we notified the staff, they did offer to let us move. So that particular part of the facility is not in good shape. But others are, and in general, it was very clean.

Robert WI had a terrible experience renting a pickup truck from U-Haul at 83 Water St, New Haven, CT. I've used U-Haul before without issues, but this time was different. I reserved the truck a day in advance, only to be met by a manager who warned me that the vehicle was booked shortly after my rental, threatening a $200 late fee if I returned it late. I returned the truck an hour early and removed a plastic tarp from the passenger floor, which left a bit of dust behind. To my shock, weeks later, I discovered a $204 cleaning fee charged to my account, in addition to the $56 rental fee. I never received a receipt for the cleaning charge, and if I hadn’t checked my bank statement, I wouldn’t have known about this extra fee. Overall, this experience has made me wary of renting from this location again. It feels like they aren't focused on serving the local community fairly. I cannot recommend U-Haul at this location based on my experience.

She threaten to have me band multiple times from Uhaul during my rental process that started off horrible due to my mobile pick up key box code not working and I had to waste 2 hours trying to figure this out and a uhaul rep from the night crew assign me a different truck that didn’t work for my time frame for return. We this Uhaul location open in the morning, ruby called and demanded the truck be brought by 1pm or I will be charge a $150 late fee along with being band from all Uhaul which is unbelievable. I am an event planner and I had a client already scheduled that I could not adjust time for but Ruby did not want to hear anything and reminder me that if I didn’t bring this truck back, I will be band. I had to reerve another truck at a different location and transfer items to get their truck back on time. When retuning the truck, I had to allow a worker who had a license to bring this truck back as I could not drive two trucks at the same time from 2 different locations. Ruby, stalk the cameras and waited for me to return at 1pm and notice that another driver drove the truck back for me and then once again threaten to band me from Uhaul for the second time in one day. I have never in my life experience such rude customer service with any of the other locations. Rentals, extensions and returns have been smooth but for some reason this manager just from the second I rented kept saying the words, she going to band me if this or that isn’t don’t which push me to having no choice to rent another truck and needing assistance with someone driving this truck back in time for the next client schedule at 1pm. I will like someone to address this asap as I will b making this a big deal no matter how far I have to go as I have been personally targeted from the moment I spoke to this women in the morning until I returned and it’s not professional at all.

DAVID PI got charged extra for gas when I have proof of the gas when I picked up. When I dropped off the truck the rep was very nice and told me that it needed gas because it was showing being short. I showed him proof of the vehicle with the miles before taking off the lot. He told me I was right to call the store manager when she arrived that she will fix it, well guess what she completely told me she couldn’t do anything for me without hearing me out. This place always has issues, the last time my contract was at 99 cents a mile and when they billed me I was charged $1.19. SMH it’s not fair other people using the trucks and employees not doing their jobs correctly.

Matthew B | Overall ExperienceI was charged a $250 cleaning fee for a truck that was clean when it was returned. 1) the cleaning fee is $25 2) the fact that this fee was processed without issue leads me to believe that this is a frequent occurrence and customers are overcharged without their knowledge. If I hadn’t looked at my receipt I wouldn’t have noticed this. I’m calling the location at 83 Water St in New Haven tomorrow for a refund of this ridiculous charge and even more ridiculous oversight.

NICOLE MI rented the van online for an after-hours pick up, along with a furniture dolly and an utility dolly. The process of checking out the van was quite cumbersome and time consuming, and the charges changed without explanation on the app. Neither of the 2 dollies were in the van, and when I called customer service (which took more than half an hour of my time) I was told that I needed to pick them up the next morning. When I went to pick up the dollies, which took valuable time from my 24hs rental and wasted extra mileage, a manager told me that “they never leave dollies inside vans for after hours pickups because they get stolen, but on the web they never say that”. I asked to extend my 24 period to compensate for the time lost and the extra mileage, and she very rudely denied my request and implied that she did not care if I was a satisfied customer “we’ll always have plenty of customers”. With this attitude I pretty much doubt it. Also, I was not reimbursed for the extra gas I left in the tank, which was a little more than 1/4 full when I picked up the van, another unfortunate nuisance.

Loved the convenience of checking in and out at times that worked for us. One comment—sometimes there were 4-5 moving carts available, and sometimes 0. When there are none, it is nearly impossible to move heavy items, since our unit was at the end of a very long hallway. Can you have a sign encouraging customers to try to use only 1 cart per member of their moving crew? Or have 2 extra carts that can be checked out from the front desk if all from the main area are gone? Thank you!!

I was called a “retard” and evicted from my unit for parking in their empty parking lot, I have this on video. When I went to have my belongings removed, multiple cars were parked in the same lot with no managers harassing them to move or calling them sluts (also recorded on video). Tiffany Currilo called me a “retard” on the clock and continues to maintain employment.

However, after less than 6 weeks, my mattress, which was inside a mattress protector, was full of mold. Some of my clothes and books, all of them properly stored in boxes, were ruined by mold as well. I lost hundred of dollars by using this location. I would not recommend it to anybody. Atrocious service and an awful experience overall.

Usually the staff is amazing and super nice/accommodating so I was surprised the last time I called. I rated it excellent and marked yes for everything because I know how surveys can impact staff. One staff member should not hold everyone's weight, but I would not recommend and my experience was great until last month.

It can be confusing, and I had to show others what to do, too. Also, make people aware that the dollies aren't available after a certain hour, even though you can access the building as late as 10. When I returned around 5:30, whole dolly area was completely blocked off so I assume it wasn't a case of them all being used. Plus no one else was there so they couldn't all be out for use. It was not super fun loading and unloading everything one by one by myself. Woulda brought someone with me if I had known. :)

On my initial visit to the facility, the manager, Tyffany Cirillo, was quite informative, more so than personnel at another U-Haul in the Greater New Haven area to which I had previously gone in search of specific details about truck and storage space tentals. When I checked in to 83 Water Street to return my 1-way rental truck, I discovered it had a serious issue. Staff person Milagros "Max" Escobar, also very friendly and helpful, was quick to get the truck problem resolved to my total satisfaction. She also guided me through the storage space rental process taking extra time to be sure I was totally familiar with everything. So, many thanks to both Tyffany and Max for their outstanding customer service and support! I'll be sure to recommend their U-Haul location to those in need of such services.

Had a storage unit there (just moved out last week) for two years and never had a problem. The storage building was always clean and well-lit. Not a fan of their carts, but they work and are always available. One thing though, they really need to update their computer system, it's a mess.

When you first walk through the door you can smell the cleanliness in the air. Wish I had rented from U-haul before the storage place I moved from. The place was dark, dingy and had a musty odor . I moved because my unit was broken into and items were taken. I feel that my items are much more secure now and don't expect to have any security issues here. Great place.
