Susan S | First ImpressionsMy experience with Andrew Paniagua AGM, and Adrien Assistant Manager at the Newport BLVD Costa Mesa storage location was reprehensible. They communicated in such flippant, dismissive, and rude ways that I will literally never use or recommend U-haul to anyone again. It will go down as a horror experience that I will warn people about. 2 horrible representatives for the U-haul brand. Rude, inaccurate, it is obvious this is probably the highest ranking position they both have probably had professionally just based on the lack of soft skills, decency, and acumen paired with a seriously inflated ego. It is clear that this authority at work may be the only authority they have in their personal lives, but it is no reason to be abusive to the customers or take out that frustrations on them. Plural. The office is ran like a flop house of gentlemen I wouldn't trust or feel comfortable sending another disabled family to. I have exclusively used U-haul since 2006. U-haul exclusively for every move. They were in error at this location but harassed me over it until I submitted a dispute through corporate. Maybe with additional training like not trolling people because they are disabled and you think nobody is looking at the store itself and there is no oversight can improve the Newport Blvd location, but honestly Adrien specifically but also Andrew Paniagua were bullying, and I don't think you can train that personality defect out of someone. It came too natural to Adrien to be rude and apathetic. When I told him that I am neurodivergent, he repeated the same sentence back to me, but very s-l-o-w-l-y like I was an idiot. I did remind him that the conversation was being recorded on both ends and he still didn't care. I hope you guys can pull the recorded audio and listen to the calls. I am sharing with my disability advocacy group that U-haul is dangerous for people like us, and to document everything and try to avoid and shop elsewhere if possible. It sucks because I have exclusively used U-haul for the last 20 years. I hope it gets better. For U-haul in general but also for people like me who may have disabilities.

They all have great customer service skills and are very helpful. I would not hesitate to use their services again! As a storage unit renter, they gave me a break on a rental cargo van to remove the contents of my unit. This is the type of customer service I really appreciate.

Even after seeing the discount for free unit on the app, staff stated they were unable to reverse the charge. I was told I had to contact the manager for reversal of fee. Multiple phone calls and voicemail went unanswered and I was never given refund. I ended up moving out after a couple weeks. Beware false advertising and lack of customer support.

Richard S | First ImpressionsStaff were great. Facility was clean. 10X10 storage unit light didn’t work. Staff said Uhaul or ownership made decision to remove lights from units. This is a dangerous and serious liability and a lawsuit waiting to happen. We spent the entire day renting a truck, loading it up, attempting to unload, then realized the unit will not work because of no lightning. We then had to take truck back home unload and return it. Wasted day, wasted money. It is a shame what a poor Company Uhaul has become. They are lucky to have such great staff but it is no longer worth the hassle to do business with the brand.

bryan g | Overall ExperienceFrom the start the customer service was bad but it got worse. A staff members decided to park in front of my unit blocking me access. She told me it was ok because she works there. Then tried to say I was trying to attack her. It was all on camera. I complained to the manager but he protected his own by making excuses. He was talking to me like I was a stupid old women. I then complained to 800 number they had this manager call me and he was even more insulting by telling me it was not how I experienced. What was he there? No just another man insulting an older women by trying to protect his own. No apology was never given. Young stupid men discriminating and older disabled women. I was given a unit that had a door that was hard to open. I complained but they manager told me it would need to be oiled often. No then door should be replaced. The piece that held lock was broken and I had too tell them it was broken and rusted where it was dangerous. Management is the worst! The out going gate was stuck open Dow at least 2 weeks. So this place doesn't care about their renters in my experience and to make matters worse are sexest!!
michele d | Overall ExperienceAdona was awesome! From our move in date to move out! I posted a Google review and thank you for the reimbursement!! We will always use uhaul!! Moving college students in and out of apartments every year for summer months is a necessary evil and a tedious and exhausting exercise in patience and pockets. Last year we opted to rent a storage unit which was conveniently located right next to Uhaul’s rental location where we were able to pick up and drop off the truck within walking distance of one another. We ran into a few technical issues related to security access points but Their employee Anona was very quick to walk immediately over to assist us. Checking in and out and monthly payments made every part of the process very seamless and convenient and when we finally moved out last week, Anona once again Was incredibly helpful. We moved out on the day of our monthly billing cycle which she was all too happy to speak with her manager about to ensure timely reimbursement. Our storage unit was clean, and my only complaint is the inconvenience of lugging to a second floor location. However, they have lift elevators and provide plenty of assorted dollies for their clients on site in a rattly accessible and locked closet. Felt like our belongings were safely secured with four layers of protection From entry into the site to access to the second floor, and elevators and including of course, security cameras. I highly recommend not only the company, but this particular location in particular. I also recommend downloading the app for added ease where most questions and all reservations an account access can be made. Shannon Karian

MARKUS B | Overall ExperienceI would not recommend ANYone to this facility-(this is the Costa Mesa location on Newport Blvd!) ..they are NOT AT ALL the “warm and friendly” kind of staff-I even told them the horrible state my life was in (evicted from my apartment by slumlords(I always paid my rent!), car accident 2 months prior to that-& I’m a single mom! I was also a small business owner, but my business solely relied on my transportation and having a space. So I lost “everything.” Covid was brutal for me. But They didn’t even care-just kept telling me to “leave and not be there”! My key card never worked properly either (even after getting a new one), so I was forced to use a friend’s half the time(thank god I KNEW someone else that rented there!) But then “this” would become a problem(I wasn’t “allowed” to use my friend’s card..even though whenever I DID use my own, it would automatically check me out before I even left, making it impossible to use the elevator at times(because the system thought I “wasn’t there!”)…this was only after an hour sometimes! It’s just a crappy security system-the alarm would go off for no reason, then when someone clearly needed help, no one was around. I ended up getting “evicted” because of some very ridiculous reasons, I almost felt like it was an “inside job” of some kind(because none of it made sense!) I’m nobody special though, so obviously this Uhaul just has a horrible staff. I even talked to another Uhaul and told them what was going on and it was “all apologies!” (DONT RENT HERE!) They’re just not nice people-and if u find yourself down on your luck, like me?? Well they might even discriminate against you-because I was “homeless”, I definitely got treated like crap. I got kicked out for doing things I saw everyone else in there doing-it still doesn’t make any sense…and some were doing worse than I EVER could! In the end, I was rarely even there because I finally found a steady space to rent -I even told them this but they didn’t care-eviction was imminent. It sucks because it was in a good location and I liked the late access hours. (But all in all, it wasn’t worth it). They ended up TAKING my late access hours in the end anyways:( & I almost lost all my stuff because I had a hard time finding a friend w/a truck to help me. It was just another nuisance to deal w/in my life that’s already up against so many obstacles.

I came in mid day and was told that I had to pay for the whole day, even though my plan was to move in the next day. When I asked him to change the move in date to the next day, he said he could but then I would have to come all the way back to pick up the access pass---not convenient and felt like a rip off. Also, why only one access pass? We rented this for our office---one pass means we have to pass it around 5 people. Not at all convenient. Didn't feel like he really cared about my business one way or another.

Ralph M | Overall ExperienceReally stuck out cause I had to leave the one place that I was staying at the motel cause I’m a transition and I could rent a place for two days I didn’t stay the first night and when I went to the lease it was like almost about 10 to 7 and she says I can’t see that she didn’t give me a mini black and I could just keep the money and then the helpers are hoping the green go down there and get it for 30 days for free the first 30 days and she’s great at school but then it wasn’t so I had to pay and she was roof bearing and not only that she opened the door and gave me a break and made me feel better man right off the back I was so scared I was it was I gonna do with all that stuff in the money I spent there didn’t have enough to pay the guys I went home and my girlfriend gave me money and I continue to move everything in . A very satisfied customer and I will recommend that evil and that lady Anona,She was the best and I’m going to recommend you guys that place her to everybody

Instead of helping me, I received a call from Andrew stating I had 20 days to vacate. I tried many times to reach him prior with no return calls. I also called and left messages for Tara Mathison and she also never returned any of my calls. What has happened is shameful and unacceptable. This is not how U-Haul has ever acted in the decades I have used U-Haul. What you have allowed with this facility and management is not in line with the U-Haul I knew before. Disgraceful.

No storage was available because a elevator had been broken for 3 weeks the gm andrew said. I told him I would prob need a few more days to do it all with out an elevator and he said “that is correct and you will pay for those days once dropped back off in SD. That was also confusing because I only had a one way trip planned my family followed me up. I had to pay almost 400 dollars for a storage and I do not have a home any longer because of my decisions based off what I had reserved through uhaul and the money I would be saving. MITCH is a San Diego Manager he called to apologize this morning. I don’t feel that it is fair after what I went through to pay for anything after finding out what I’ve been told, and I also believe it would be ethically and morally right to put some if not all money toward my storage fee

There was some confusion on how the access code could be used which resulted in a delay for accessing our new storage unit. We had a 2nd floor storage unit and the elevator could only be accessed from within the storage building. This caused us to have to type the code into the door and the elevator just to use the elevator. We rented a one-way truck and were entitled to one month free. I am still waiting to be credited for the free month.

Jesus C | Overall ExperienceOne concern I have is the manager Rodney in the U-Haul store in 84th street Scottsdale location was very *extremely* inappropriate and asked me out on a few occasions while I’m trying to organize my order for the move. not one time did I act as I was interested in him. I declined and said it was not appropriate but he kept going, also decided to try to have himself help me with my move inviting himself to move me, and took my number for his personal use and text me to say hello beautiful at 10:00 pm, When I used the caller ID I had to block him. Next time I was there he mentioned he text me and I was disgusted with his behavior. Super unprofessional and slimy. Other than that I find U-Haul very easy to plan moves. Please make sure to have your staff got o a better customer service class to know the Donts when dealing with customers. My phone number is not for someone to take for their personal use.

I was threatened by someone there that forced his way in while I was pulling my car I. When I went I. To speak about it. The employees imitated me. And offered nothing to help me out. I called the help line and they said I’d have to come back the following day even though the check-in staff said I’d be safe until 10pm and it was only 8:35pm. The ONE MAN who takes care of every single person who walks in that place is extremely patient and kind but really needs some backup. The storage unit had a bit of moisture in it so not good for things that need climate control but it serves it's purpose.

It did not state anywhere visable I'd have to have a business license and or LLC which I have neither as of yet but plan to in future if it becomes a full time serious business, to be allowed that access. I wasn't told until I could not get in after regular hours and had to go to main corporate building down the street and speak to someone who then told me. Very disappointed. I feel duped and now stuck there. Online application process stated the until would have a lock inside the unit for me which it did not. Again, deceived.

Was unable to get anyone on the phone throughout entire process. Cleaning lady was more helpful than the GM or the active employees. Will never use again.

One woman was literally blocking my way of moving into my unit as she was "living" in a chair directly across from my unit. I truly fear for my stored items as it doesn't appear you are doing anything to deter the homeless living and congregating at this facility. You should have a cart available for use near each entrance. How many carts do you have at this facility?? We have never seen one!! How can you be expected to move in and out without a cart???

So glad to be out of that place.

The women who booked the reservation basically lied to me regarding the unit size, availability, and the free month rent. The associates at the Store showed absolutely no customer service skills what so ever, and the unit I was giving was a two door unit with a green tag and some else locks on either doors. Uhaul took 4 hours out of my life because the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing.

They scrambled to get me a truck. I was so grateful, I will always go there even thought it is farther from my house.

He even dropped all of his tools in an instant totally disreguarding any concern on to what he was working on just to help me with my boxes. . .What a guy! I love san clemente uhaul and keep on haulin . . .
JEFF TDon't waste you're time trying to buy the best locks or buying the insurance incase you feel you're stuff will get stolen we bought the best lock that's pick proof and tool proof but when our uhaul was stolen we went to recover it after it was found. Our lock had not been broken so the thirds actually tore of the handle of the uhaul stole all our things. Uhaul wouldn't cover anything because apparently they only cover damages not thefts. We are military and were PCS'ing so thanks a lot uhaul for being cheap.
JESSENIA RWhy does there seem to be a luck factor on whether my customer info is saved at this and other U-Haul locations? I have become an at least once every 2 week customer, and in this day and age my info should be available to expedite my transaction. How about a frequent renter program?

Then she asked again if I really needed the truck for two days, to which I replied "Yes". Then she stated that I was tying up the truck for another customer...what am I? Am I not a paying customer? I recieved NO discounts and I had to pay for the vehicle for those 2 days. I AM a paying customer and U-Haul lost absolutely NO money. I am a 60 year old woman who, along with her 40 year old daughter, was loading a truck by ourselves. I had a one bedroom with wall to wall furniture, which included a 200lb desk and 14 boxes of books, 3 desks and other "normal" furniture and loaded boxes. I did not appreciate her comments at all and felt they were unnecessary. Thank you

I called customer service and they told me I had to take in the quote that I got from Budget to the location and they would have to adjust it in the store. When I got there the owner told me that she doesn't do that and didn't know why customer service told me that. But because they had she would go ahead and do it. I almost walked out and just went to Budget.

DOUGLAS CI have o be honest i was hesitant to rent from U haul. I had a very horrible experience with the store in Lake forest. It was run by junkies and they ended up stealing form us. This was in 2008 and I swore Id never use uhaul again.. This experience was totally different and I thank you for an easy rental. STEVE FI received a text message the morning of my rental instructing me to go to a different location than was on my confirmation email. I didn't realize that needed to call and confirm the change and when I went to the new location I was given, they were closed. U-Haul Traffic advised me to go to the Avenida Pico location where a truck would be available. When I arrived there was another customer on the phone with customer service complaining that because he was late his rental was cancelled. The same truck that was now assigned to me. The desk agent took it upon herself to reassign another vehicle that had been assigned to a third customer to me and to let the complaining customer keep his rental. It was a lot of unnecessary drama that soured my experience with U-Haul.

CHRISTEE BThe first location on Calle Valle, in San Clemente was not open for business at my appointment time 9:00 am. I waited for approximately 25 minutes and then called U-Haul 800 and had my reservation moved to Pico location.
DAN SEveryone was so helpful and had such positive attititudes from the second I got out of my car. The gentleman in the lot was very helpful in helping us determine the correct sized rental to serve our very last minute needs! I called at 10:15am and was able to pick up a truck by 11:00am. The woman inside were quick and efficient. I was definitely be recommending them and using this location again!!

LEE HA one day rental that advertises for $29.95 actually cost $154 for including a dolly. I picked up at 1:00 and returned at 6:00, with $30 for gas (I drove less than 75 miles...that is $2.45 a mile...a little pricey.....

KYLE BI had occasion to make a panic stop when the car in front of me unexpectedly stopped. The unloaded trailer kept pushing me toward a collision with that car and I stopped within one foot of their bumper. Since I was returning the trailer after hours, I called the renting location to report that the trailer's braking system had not worked and that the trailer almost caused me to have an accident. The agent told me that the trailer does not have brakes and relies on the vehicle to stop it. I told her it did have brakes and that she should make the report. I have not had any feedback regarding what they found. It would be nice. (I'm not looking for compensation, just a bit of training for the agent.)

ANDY SI called to square my bill, the next day after my return. I spoke to gentleman who assured me the bill had been closed and there was no further action on my part. So the next day when U-haul manager called me she started out by yelling at me saying "YOU KNOW YOU OWE ME MONEY AMY" what lovely customer service even after explaing to her what had happened she seemed not to care stating my card was declined. Of course I had another one to use. I felt bad after that and still do
