I had a terribly negative experience with U-Haul. First, I was told on the phone by someone at the Wills Road U-Haul that I could arrange for the truck on Wednesday afternoon, pick up the keys, then leave it overnight, and pick it up early in the morning. When I arrived on Wednesday afternoon to do that, I was told the only way I could get it at 5:15 AM on Thursday was to use your 7/24 system, and they help me set that up. Because I had hired people who would be waiting for me at 6 AM to start loading, I went extra early to get the truck – – and thank heavens I did. When I arrived at 5:05 AM—a single female, in the dark, I had to go through all the required photos and then was asked for verification. Had I known ahead of time, I could have brought my passport, or printed out my emailed reservation, but instead my only option was to risk waking a friend at that horrible hour for verification. Out of desperation, I finally did that. Then I got the truck number, but the truck was nowhere to be found. When I called for help at your “go U-Haul†number, I had to wait about 10 minutes, still in the dark in an isolated truck lot. The gal on the phone was terrific, but in the end she had to send me to a different U-Haul location. After driving around in the dark, and walking around with a flashlight, I finally found the truck. I logged on again to get a combination to open the padlock, after she had altered my reservation, but it didn't work. She gave me two more combinations to try, and we tried them all in various ways, but with no luck. By now I was already too late to meet people at 6 o'clock as planned. She finally told me I would just have to wait till someone showed up for work, and we hung up. I kept fiddling with the three different combinations and finally was able to open the padlock, get the keys, and be on my way. In all it took me one hour and 10 minutes to get the truck. So you can probably understand why I'm not a happy customer. I will say that turning in the truck was pleasant and easy and welcome after a long hard day.

fermin Z.There seems to be miscommunication between the website and customer service over the phone and the actual U-Haul locations. For example I was told I was “lucky“ that there was an available Ubox container at my pick up location, even though I had paid for the reservation and selected a time and date. The online reservation manager should have a disclaimer that it is not a guaranteed reservation and it's pending unit availability. I would've love to know that I could not count on it 100%, and thankfully there was one available, but it would've really changed and messed up my plans if there wasn't one available. I had also pre-scheduled my drop off at home months in advance. Leading up to the delivery date, I called to confirm at least four times and was assured that it would get delivered on the specific date. When it didn't show up on time, I called one more time and was transferred to the local office where they told me they didn't do deliveries on that specific day and could make an exception and would do me a favor by delivering a day later than I had planned. Even though the actual box got to the local shipment center earlier than expected, I had to change my plans and not have access to my things on the dates that I had planned to, so it was inconvenient. It seems like there should be more communication about actual capacity and availability between local offices and the main U-Haul customer service . Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the cost of the service and the capacity of each container. I would definitely recommend it to people I know, with the caveats for scheduling conflicts.

I marked the truck as being "clean" when i picked it up, only for me to start my drive with the windows down and had, what i believe to be dog hair, blowing all over the place. There was dog hair that got on my food, in my drinks and almost seemed like whoever was in charged of cleaning the truck just swept everything under the seats. Also - I was going to be charged for 2 extra days when my reservation was for 3 days and even after showing them, they told me there is nothing they could do so i called for a manager and Julia assisted and made things right. Not to mention - the storage units i reserved and was confirmed wasn't available when the time came for me to move my items in. Instead, i had to use two separate units AND pay for two separate units. Never would I recommend anyone to this company

They never confirmed, never showed and we could not get through on the phone to the movers who we were set up with. Finally after being on hold 52 minutes with UHAUL I was able to speak to someone that did not seem to care, canceled the movers. We ended up moving ourselves and are waiting for a refund. So my rating for MOVING LABOR is POOR or NO STARS.

Staff is friendly. The sign is misleading through when saying 24 hour access or extended hours upon request and the we code to scan was a dead end. I had to move my belongings out last minute and abruptly and I made it for my first two drops but the last one I was 4 minutes late on closing time and I was unable to reach someone in-house to speak to them about the extended hours. I had to unload my belongings somewhere else for the night until morning and ended up haveming to rent the truck another whole day. But I do like the facility and want to give it a chance

The open pipe straddled our unit and a hallway we didn’t use to access the unit. We went to remove our entire household belongings and there was extreme water damage and mold. The janitor said she was mopping the floor up regularly and notified management. In fact, there was a large area of wet carpet and a mop and bucket there leaning on the wall of our unit. We were never contacted. When we left destroyed wet boxes in the wet carpeted hallway I was called a scolded within 2 hours. The assistant manager came to the unit at my request and stated she knew the roof leaked and it was hard to contact everyone. She made no effort to contact us. Her attitude was, I hope you bought insurance. We were refused any money back on the rental of 7 months. No effort was made to help us. Family heirlooms dating back over a century were destroyed. Family wedding photos, antique books, Korean War memorabilia from my father. My Great Grandmother living room carved chair. Many other pieces of furniture and our bed. The extensive list goes on. The bottom of boxes fell apart from being soaked. No replacement boxes were offered. Mold was thick on many items. Framed artwork destroyed. Antique wool rugs molded. The clean white Uhaul paper inside boxes was wet and covered in green mold. The complete disregard and negligence or concern for the massive cleanup my husband and I took days to do was beyond pathetic. We are recently retired and many things we worked for and inherited in our lifetimes was damaged or destroyed. Insurance only covers damages, not lost time dealing with cleanup costs , despair, or unit costs that was a complete waste of money, to say the least. The manager was let go prior to the discovery of our units destruction. The assistant manager said she would try to get us a months rent back at least. The local FRM Chris said no. I purchased 5k of insurance since your facility states climate controlled and an environment like your home. We are reviewing our options for recovery once all the extensive photo documentation is submitted to insurance. The horrendous attitude towards people and their lives is abysmal. You should be ashamed.

I found out through other employees on staff the person who stole over $6,000 worth of my possessions and my identity is a repeat offender at the facility and they still shocking haven’t been evicted from the property (the thief of the facility has a storage unit at the same facility). Other tenants renting a unit stayed after hours and let the thieves in whole robbed me. Management noticed word locks are the common pattern with all robberies on the property and hasn’t stopped selling them to people. Management also hasn’t wanted anyone about the cameras not working in the halls or about the many thefts occurring on the property. My life and my things aren’t a joke and I haul has shown to be the most unsafe place to store my things. Truly unforgivable and the experience was so bad I will never forget it and I will always tell people to avoid uhaul for storage. How uhaul let this go on for so long without property addressing this awful situation is probably highly illegal and I’m seeking legal consultation after it’s become abundantly clear uhaul wasn’t doing their job to keep the entire facility secure. This facility is a hot bed of criminal activity and you all have the audacity not to keep it secure??? That’s a lawsuit no matter what your policy is. Burden of proof can be proven.
