I tried to reserve a 20 foot truck but couldn't according to the website. I called UHaul & â€œJimâ€ set me up, but no reservation number, so my wife reserved a 20 foot one. U-Haul is doing something right. Upon arrival, we were met with employee David Bucio-Lopez. He was prompt and courteous, and had the car hauler trailer hooked up within 5 minutes. In addition, he went over all aspects of the trailer and ensured that it was hooked up correctly and that all lights worked. When I returned the truck I went out of my way to make sure the fuel level was the EXACT same as I received it. I was charged for 3 gallons. I'm not sure I'll be using Uhaul again. I've used Uhaul for at least 6 long-distance and a dozen + local moves over the last decade+ and I'm tired of getting trucks with a half-full or quarter-full tank and expected to get the needle exactly right. I was told by AJ (Belmont Uhaul) that there were no â€˜one way' trailers available at that location or in the Bay Area. I had stopped by to buy a receiver hitch & ball. â€œThat's just the way it is and it has been like this for at least a yearâ€. I logged on and made my reservation and she told me â€œyou got luckyâ€. The trailer was there the whole time, I saw it. Booked it and used it. This gal was sending me elsewhere to do business because she was too lazy to help me.Lindsay H.
I had the worst experience with this rental with Uhaul and will never use your company again. I will also let everyone I know, know about this and will be filing a complaint with BBB and also on twitter and facebook. Facts: 1. I called Uhaul and reserved a one way 15' truck to go from Las Vegas to Belmont, CA. 2. I was told the truck would be ready for me by 9AM on Saturday 3. I hired laborers to help with the move and scheduled them to come on Saturday which cost me about $2,000 4. I drove 10 hours from CA to Vegas on Wednesday. I called Uhaul on Thursday to verify the truck would be ready on Saturday and was told by someone named Morales in the traffic department that they did not have any trucks. 5. She let me know she didn't really care that I had this all planned out and it hinged on having the Uhaul truck on Saturday morning. She let me know they did not have any trucks within 200 miles and that maybe they would call me Saturday morning if they got one in. 6. I let her know this was not acceptable and was passed to a manager at the Osso Blonco store, who told me the same thing. They don't really care that I was told the truck would be ready because they didn't have any trucks for me. 7. The manager at Osso Blonco gave me another managers phone number by the name of Stephen. 8. After hearing the story, Stephen said he was sorry but that he could only refund me $50 as a courtesy. 9. After threatening to file with BBB and put my story online and with the news, he offered to refund me an additional $78. In conclusion, they did find me a Uhaul truck which was about 200 miles away in Cedar, Utah. So, I had to pay a laborer to drive with me to pick up the truck to bring it back to Vegas where I was told the truck would be waiting for me originally. I had to pay that person $400 cash. And pay for my cars gas as well as the trucks gas to get it back to Vegas. After speaking with several representatives, as well as my father in law speaking with your representatives, we were both told that this is part of the Uhaul policy. That you don't really care that people make plans to move, hire movers and spend a lot of money which all hinges around your truck being where you said it would be when the reservation was originally made. Even one of your executive assistants to Stephen told me she hears stories like this all the time from upset customers and she totally understands. Obviously, if I was told there was a chance the truck wouldn't be there, I would have looked for an alternative. I find the operation of your company reprehensible and truly despicable. It was almost impossible to get ahold of a actual person onsite. I closed out my unit with a rep on the 1800 number. Was explained the $40 fee for not turning the access card in to the office. The key always got stuck inside the uhaul ignition. This was very irritating as this could be an issue where a customer gets the uhaul truck stolen. It takes about 5 minutes minimum to take the key out of the ignition every time. Uhaul customer support was unable to help.Kevin D.

For the last two rentals I have made, UHaul attempted to charge me $39.90 for a one day rental. First time, I turned it in before 24 hours but the location didn't check it in until an hour later. I was told by customer support it was my fault because I did not do the mobile checkin. I pointed out that I did exactly what the UHaul employee told me to do. This time, bearing in mind this previous experience, I made sure to do the mobile check-in, but UHaul put a $39.90 charge for an 8 hour rental. I did return the truck 3 hours after closing, but the agent I got the truck from earlier in the day told me the charge would only be 19.95 as long as I returned the truck within 24 hours. I challenged the invoice and today UHaul corrected it. I am frustrated that UHaul has failed to prepare an accurate invoice twice, requiring me to spend time challenging to get it corrected. I recommend you correct your software and train your employees on how to direct customers on check-in.John W.

I originally booked a 20 feet truck with ample heads up time, but the truck had issues and there was no replacement 20 feet available. I had to switch to 15 feet option. Because of this i had to book another 9 feet van the next day which cost me another 100+ I got $50 as cash back which is not enough because i ended up spending $100+ and almost full day making the second round trip. Customer should be informed beforehand of this important information: If you drive over the set number of miles, you will be charged the regular rate. For example, if your rate is 39 cents per mile, but you go over the set number of miles, you will be charged 99 cents per mile. This can cause your $19.95 daily rate to become $99.00 PLUS the rental of the truck. I have always used UHaul whenever I needed a rental vehicle. However, after this most unfortunate event, going forward, I will search for another affordable short-term rental company that doesn't penalize you for a few extra miles over their set amount and inform you upfront of any additional penalties.VEL R.

I did all my original reservations on line. I signed up for the truck and storage unit. I have never rented a storage unit before and didn’t live in the area so I relied on the people making the reservations advise me on the size of the unit and any important information, like closing time. Issues that happened: we arrived to unload the I haul truck at 2 minutes to 5 and they said they were closing and couldn’t stay to do the paperwork since it was our first time to use the storage unit, no one told me that and we could have done the paperwork for the storage unit at the time we picked up the truck, but he never mentioned it. We then had to find a place to laid the filled truck because he wouldn’t even let us park it there. We then had to hire back the people that we had hired to unload the truck for the next day. The next day when we came back, they didn’t have the storage unit so reserved available, they rented it out since I made the reservation. They did find another one for us, unfortunately it was too small and I asked the person I made the reservation with what size they recommended for a one bedroom worth of furniture and boxes, I had no idea. It all fit in the truck I rented so i didn’t question the size of the unit she recommended, but the contents wouldn’t fit so they had to get me another one which was I’ve $100 more. To their credit, they are giving us the first month free for the inconvenience, but this was a very frustrating experience that could have been avoided with better communication on their part.joyce O. | First Impressions
