The check in process is still long. Work on how to get the data you need quicker. It makes it difficult when there is a line of people and one person working. My adventure in moving was pleasant because of the uhaul staff at 68th St in Grand Rapids MI. Moving is psychologically sad stressful usu not voluntary no money fear of the unknown uncertainty and physically exhausting; clients appear at their worst when renting equipment to DIY their move usu late unprepared lost their license (customer in front of me said in an angry abusive tone, â€œI lost my license I got a picture of the frontâ€ my thoughts: ðŸ™„ dumb jerk that might not be legit & it's the barcode that's read & uploaded you hick idiot!) no credit card (again: meannatured disgruntled hick idiot) incapacitated (digital impairment devices should be installed AT THE ENTRANCE of the parking lot!) inexperienced incompetent (if you can't back a trailer or park a 15' truck then you shouldn't operate it); clients psychologically deflect these emotions onto family friends bystanders AND uhaul staff. Sonya kept a smile on her face and expertly got the hick idiot's situation resolved and somehow got him on his way so he could poison the day for others in his path. Then she cheerfully greeted the next 15 customers with courtesy kindness and deft capability. The cargo and cab of the truck I rented was immaculate: clean windows, new wipers, smooth OH door, awesome huge mirrors, the dolly and pads were stocked and available. The communication and follow up with this office was very poor. They delivered a day late and when is was not going to arrive as scheduled, nobody even informed me. Felt safe there. Best DIY moving ops in Grand Rapids! 68th St GR, MI uhaul is the only store I use. Period. Woman managed and it shows: Thoroughly trained informed knowledgeable staff; excellent customer service; clean organized safe bright clearly marked equipment return signage and lanes; unlike the male uhaul Mgr up the road I have never experienced any snarky sexist comments or careless unsafe equipment hookup at the 68th St store. The self storage facility is HUGE and bright and clean. If it's moving you're doing go here.Joni L.

When I picked up the unit it took over an hour too many customers and only one associate. The truck needed front end work it was a horrible driving vehicle for 270 miles. I would have returned it had it not been loaded.MICHAEL H.

Again, the person helping me did as good as could be expected with how busy she was and little to no help for her. Other than that she was great, helpful and patient with a good attitude. Nice people, but so overworked and understaffed. I'm glad my schedule was flexible or this would have been a nightmare. My containers were delivered early but retrieved 7 days late. Waiting that extra time means that the grass underneath the containers died. My lawn's going to look strange for some months to come. I could tell they were working as fast as they could, but were barely keeping their heads above water. Experience with personnel: 4 stars. Lack of enough personnel: 1 star. Better communications and better customer service. We were told to expect the U-Boxes to be delivered to us between 9am and 4pm and on the day of delivery, we would be contacted and given an updated and much narrower time of delivery. On the day of around noon, we hadn't heard anything so we called them to ask about an updated time and they still said between 9 & 4. At 3:15pm we still hadn't heard anything nor had we gotten the U-boxes so we called again and this time they said â€œshould be there by 4pm or LATER.â€ So I told my wife and she called and they were being rude and impatient. I tried calling back and they were rude and impatient. My wife left a complaint with the complaint department. Hours after 4pm we still didn't get our U-boxes and we stayed awake waiting for them. We finally fell asleep and woke up the next morning to no U-boxes. They made us priority to get the boxes delivered to us first thing when they opened back up. The experience would've have been a whole lot better had they just communicated with us on what was going on and of course had they had better customer service. Also, we asked if they could contact the driver to get an update on our goods the previous day (the original delivery date) and they said â€œnoâ€. So that was strange. Additionally, because we didn't get the U-boxes on time, we had to reschedule our movers and I had to call-in and miss a day of work because everything got pushed back because we didn't get the u-boxes on time.Marquest S.

The last request was a pickup of empty uboxes. Up until this point the process has worked out well. It took five attempts to get the uboxes removed. The first attempt was not scheduled by me. The next attempt 3 attempts, the driver didn't show up, and no communication from uhaul. After every miss, I called and waited on hold for up to 2 hours.JOANNJULIA C.
The facility was short staffed, one person doing everything. I stood in line waiting to get my rental for over 40 minutes, the woman behind the counter was going everything she could but with many customers and one person it was too much for one person. Customers walked out due to the wait. The woman behind the counter was friendly and doing all she could. The return of the truck/van didn't go smoothly. We could not check it back in online, it wouldn't work. I also tried calling the Uhaul number and it would go through the prompts and then hang up. We had a lot of technical issues with using the online service and had to wait over a half hour to speak to the representative working at the location we rented from in person, while our children were in the car just to basically start over from the beginning to get our rental. When we dropped it off after hours, we again had issues with the app and could not provide pictures to prove we dropped it off on time and may have been charged the extra time for drop off.Daniel D.

Communication from Byron Center, MI was terrible. I had to make multiple phone calls to get information about my shipment. It has been resolved but I will not recommend to use the Byron Center, MI center again.Barbara C.
FYI: This is not about this location. I am very upset. I've been trying to get a hold of someone at Uhaul for the past two weeks. I need to schedule our u-box deliveries. I have called multiple times, first call I waited on hold for over two hours and finally hung up. There were no updates on wait times. I waited a few days and called again- I waited on hold for over one hour. Tried again the next day and same thing. Tried signing into the website several different times. It loops me around to the homepage once I'm signed in. Absolutely ridiculous. Today I get a hold of someone (I pressed new rental- would you believe I got through in 45 minutes?) and they told me my u-box delivery would be in 15 days at the soonest. When I replied that wasn't soon enough and detailed the struggle to get a hold of customer service the past two weeks her suggestion was that I come and pick it up myself - also she wasn't aware that I had already paid for deliveryâ€¦ isn't that posted in my account? The trailer had a flat tire that required air mins after leaving the parking lot. It must have had a leak bc I couldn't get the tire pressure above 25 psi. This tire was also clearly a spare as it was smaller than the other 3. One of the other tires wobbled as I drove.Kaylin D.

To begin we were guaranteed a 20ft truck (the only size that would work for moving to a new state) at a specific location nearby. The day before pick-up we were contacted and told that truck size doesn't exist at the guaranteed location and we could drive to a further location for a 15 ft truck (way too small!) They should've delivered the truck to our location instead of making us drive 3 hours round trip, taking 3 hours out of a workday and losing us that part of a days paycheck and wasting our time and stress. Once we got the truck unloaded and headed to the storage unit we'd pre-registered and that was included free with our one way truck rental, the trouble and headaches kept coming. We were originally given a 10x5 at another facility, but when we got to the unit, it's actual measurements were 5x5, even the worker said that happens, that U-Haul's dimension of storage spaces don't always match the dimensions they advertise them as, he measured it for us for confirmation. We had to call customer service (plus 15 minutes of in hold time) to locate another facility with the size we needed because the store was unable to look it up or call them. We had no way of double-checking with the new facility whether they actually had the unit available in that size, and the worker at the one we were at wasn't able to for us (ridiculous they can't call another store locally to check!). We had to blindly drive to the new facility. Upon arrival, check-in was smoothish. The young man wasn't thorough and missed some things we had to correct for him. Then he sent us to our unit and forgot to come unlock our unit for us so we had to go remind them we were there 30 minutes later to which the guy said he'd forgotten we were there. He didn't warn us of the sticky trap on the floor of the unit or point it out at all so I accidentally stepped on it moving something into the unit and ruined the bottoms of good running shoes. All of this made us late for our rented truck drop off time, and lower on fuel for drop off than we were supposed to be, we wouldn't have been if this hadn't all been wrong. Not only was this a drain on finite fossil fuel resources, it was a waste if our time, adding an additional hour of driving around for U-Haul's mistake. This all also made us so late that we missed a ticketed event and were unable to get a refund. Very dissatisfied with the company and the customer service as a whole for wasting at least 5 hours of our time, energy, and emotions.Heather P. | First Impressions

Other than being very busy and under staffed the store was great. However my on-line reservation for the storage unit was worthless! Even though on-line confirmed my storage unit, when I showed up there was no unit available to rent. I tried calling another store but must have been directed to your main call center. The person who helped me reserve over the phone got me the correct size confirmed available but when I showed up to the store I was informed the only two units were on the second and fourth floor and there is no elevator. Sonya and Vincent did a great job of helping me despite the system being down. This made it really difficult to get moved in to storage and rent a truck. Nothing was really explained how anything worked there and had to make several return trips to the front desk (and wait several minutes because of the line) to just ask "How do I even get in to the bay?" or "What truck should I take?" I know part of this was because the system was down and everything was crazy, but it was a huge time waster. A simple video on the app would have worked way better.Michael L. | First Impressions

Purchased unit on line . went to the location walked into the store to get paperwork and keys. I stood there with not a soul in sight for 10 minutes, then walked out. drove around looking for employees...started a chat online to figure out how to get the keys to my unit, walked back in and there were 2 ladies at the counter, I had good reason to believe that someone informed them about my comlaint..ill leave it at that. I was offered a job with federal government, however, I had to relocate to another state to accept the position. This is what brought me to Uhaul. Initially, everyone appeared to be nice and helpful. Unfortunately, after a small mishap on my part, resulting in damage (for which I paid for in full), the manager became very unprofessional and condescending. Additionally, after moving my items out of the free storage, I had to call several times (with no return call) in order to close out the unit. Thankfully, I won’t have a need for Uhaul services any time soon.
