More thorough service would be helpful. We ordered a hitch for a cargo trailer (through the call centre) and I asked multiple times whether I needed anything else (I needed wiring, but this was not apparent when I booked). We purchased the ball and pin separately, but no one looked at the size of the hitch (or asked)...it was the wrong size. While I had an excellent experience with the folks @ this location it was a bit out of the way for someone without a vehicle to get to. Thankfully Halifax transit got us there. contacting U-haul locations is difficult, and calls get directed to a call center. I had booked an appliance dolly which was critical to my move, and it was not available when I picked up the truck. I asked if they could confirm availability of an appliance dolly at another location, but even this U-haul location could not directly phone another location, as they too got directed to the call center, so I had to drive 25 minutes to determine availability. I was lucky, and they had 5, but I could not return the dolly to the other location with my truck, I had to make two trips to return all the equiment. This was time consuming and expensive for me. It was also frustrating that a second dolly i did not need was locked into my truck, and was in the way for securing my load. I could not remove the dolly without incurring an additional $7 per day charge. This was very disappointing.James b N.

First of all to improve your customer service maybe from the two different U-Haul places from Halifax to Dartmouth you don't charge completely different amounts depending on where you're picking it up at I I rented one of your units the exact same size for 3 days from Dartmouth and probably put a boat 80 km on it and I got charged the same amount from the Halifax location for only having it for 2 days and putting 30 km on it so to be charged the exact same amount and have a whole extra day with the product from one company to the next it is absolutely ridiculous and I do not think that that is very good business for you guys to sit there and charge people like thatCrystal H.

Although I've used it recently (in the past week), the most recent rental required me to provide information that was not relevant or easily available. We were lead to believe if we left our unit early because we no longer needed the storage there would be a refund available for the days paid for and not used. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. We gave the furniture away to a Ukrainian relief and could close out the unit 10 days early. So , ok then - I can deal with that policy - although I think it is unfair BUT what is shameful is the DOUBLE-DIPPING uhaul is able to do buy renting out the same unit I've already paid for!!! Worst experience. Understaffed, and it took 45 minutes to pick up, 45 minutes to drop off. Also, the gas wasn't full and I wasn't told to only fill it to where it was when I got it. I filled it up and was told I had to pay for the extra gas. How do you even know how much to fill it?Brett W.
Staff were absolutely fabulous, helpful and easy to work with. We would happily rent from this location again and would recommend it to a friend. Our only issue was that the truck had been smoked in recently, and perhaps heavily. We bought a bottle of Febreeze Fabric Spray to kill the smoke smell, and used it on the seats and headliner to try and clear it out. We had the truck for over a week so we needed it to smell ok. We are non-smokers. It was generally ok in the end, but it took a bit of work to get it there.Glen P.
From the beginning we thought we had 24 access and were then told not at this location. Afterward, our customer record was deleted but when re adding us they did not set up the payment. As a result our door had a ted lock we had to get removed and it also prevented us from renting truck. On our last day we were told by another staff member we should have been given access code. I chose the mobile check-in option to be able to do it myself to save time. However, when I arrived, the site instead directed my to line up at the counter. The line was backed up and slow, and I missed half of my booked elevator slot time. Your rep told me that the tank was full. The receipt showed a full tank, and the gauge showed full. Your rep's instructions were to fill it up just before returning. Fair enough. However, the tank was not full. I put about 25 litres into the truck after driving only 22 miles. There's no chance that your 15 foot truck burns more than a litre every mile. You ripped me off, and I will be filing a claim. The truck's steering rack was sloppy. You have to properly maintain your vehicles. You're creating a public hazard. Fortunately, when I returned the truck the staff member out front was rude for no good reason, and later as he drove away he honked at me and made rude gestures. A+ for professionalism.Nick P.
A small number of staff were great, but most appeared put out by customers. Debit payment system down regularly. The fire panel has been beeping for 4 months. The electrical contractor you hired (Turple electric) was rude to customers and during COVID there was one who wouldn’t wear a mask and harassed me and other customers. Staff didn’t care. Smoking area for staff right beside main doors. While people load and unload, they have to breath in smoke. Also, some staff is always smoking. In 89 of my 100 visits, someone was smoking by the main door. It’s 2022, why is this. Twice during my 15 month storage and the 8 trucks I rented I had issues. Jen Cashin even emailed me to respond to my concerns. Her response and offer fell far short, and she didn’t even follow through. I was dissatisfied. I hated going to Uhaul by the end. It was like a comedy of errors. But it wasn’t funny. It was hassle. There was no need for it. I will never use uhaul again, every, for anything. The price sounds like the best, and you have lots of trucks, and the facility for storage is new and clean. But the experience was painful, and fell far short of my expectations. The person who booked my storage locker in the first place was probably the worst. In a brand new facility, he gave me the locker that is absolutely the furthest from the entrance. I made over 100 trips. Each time as I walked past rows of empty units I wondered why he wanted me to suffer. He was rude, and condescending. I found that to be the rule at uhaul. Only problem is when you book the dollies to load and unload they should be made available. The system doesn't line up when you call to book because it said they were available to rent and they said they don't know what's available at their warehouses and that is frustrating when you depend on theose equipment to help your move your things. They need a system when they are available and not available for rent not be surprised when you pick up your truck or trailer.Tammy M.

Well, I reserved two dollies with the truck and when I came to pick up the equipment that I reserved, there were no dollies. So, I wasted a lot of time and fuel driving around town looking for dollies which I needed. I was quite upset having to do this on a move day with a limited time. I think the management needs to train the customer service rep how to treat people. I was wondering how the supervisor was able to hire three staff with no customer service skills. There were three staff at the desk and none of them have basic customer service skill. We waited in the line for more than 20 mins. The staff had very bad attitude and were ignorant and looks like they didn't wantt to work. The lady helping inside was awesome. However the wait to get a truck was long and then the gentleman said that he could not help me after waiting an endless time. Then he asked for my booking number and then could help me after all. Vehicle was clean. Ondifection give. On where to park etc on return. Another endless wait while he was training two other staff members. Then he went with the two trainers to check the vehicle out. I have had experience renting many trucks for work in the past. Things have changed in recent years and I was expecting it to be a frustrating experience this time, but was very pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff was pleasant and professional even though there were people waiting and they were training new people at both stations. The trainee I had was composed and friendly, I think taking from the same attitude her trainer had. Both upbeat and efficient. The web experience for reserving and then text for check-in status of vehicle both went smoothly. Returning the truck was again surprisingly pleasant in the top-notch professional and friendly attitudes of the man at the front desk as well as the vehicle check-in person. Well done!Pamela C.

The 350 Horseshoe Lake Dr. location is PERFECT!!! Well equipped, friendly staff, storage on site - all you could ever ask for. Very happy with the service at 350 Horseshoe Lake Dr. 5-Stars ***** HOWEVER, STAY AWAY from the 3545 Robie St. location. We initially booked there because it is in walking distance to our apartment. WOW, my first U-Haul location inside a restaurant!! The waitress did not know much about the U-Haul business and called somebody on a cell phone to ask questions. She then handed me the phone to talk to the "cell phone guy". He was not much of any help either as the "guaranteed 9' Cargo Van" was not available. The guy gave me a local (902)-xxx number to call. The 902 number guy told me to go to the 350 Horseshoe Lake location. I told him we walked to the Robie St. location and cannot get there right now. His answer: Can you take a taxi or an Uber, I will give you a $50 credit on your reservation. We took an Uber to and back from 350 Horseshoe Lake. Hop ei see the reimbursement of cost come through. In short: 350 Horseshoe Lake - any time again. 3545 Robie Street - NEVER AGAINROLF B.

I had a reservation for a pick-up truck made approximately a month in advance. I selected the expected time of arrival, but arrived over an hour late which dropped the 2 day reservation (the truck was given to someone else who must have just shosn up). The only other option available was a 15' cube van which increased the cost considerably (in rental, in mileage and in gas). Cancelling a two day reservation, made well inadvance, because of an hour delay is a horrible business practice if customer experience is considered. Prioritizing people who are able to plan out in advance is likely a better financial decision in the long run as well over those who knowingly take a chance and show up on the spot looking for a rental. If this practice remains at least make it clearer when selecting a pick up time and / or provide a warning phone call / automated email. Thank you.Jeremie D.

I had ordered blankets to be provided with the trailer but none were - did not discover until I got to the location to pick up the furniture. I checked in prior to arriving and still had as much to do when I got there. Maybe have the trailer pulled out for ready accessibility. it's a little bit of a surprise that you pay on line and then get an additional bill for the taxes. Our possessions were moved into our storage unit by the removal company and they gave the keys to the reception to put in their lock box until we were able to get over to Nova Scotia to Ontario. We had provided the removal company with a lock but they were told that we had to buy a UHaul one. We were meant to collect our keys for the storage unit on arrival but the keys had been lost by Uhaul. We then waited 3 hours for the staff to remove the lock for us. On three occasions we had to go and ask if they were coming to assist us and every time it appeared they had forgotten all about us. Both my husband and I had taken a day off work to move out of the unit but unfortunately were unable to clear the unit due to this lengthy wait. When I called to book a truck I was quoted a price for over $300, when I question this they dropped the price to half! In May we rented a 26 ft truck they told us when they got there they only had a 20, I booked 2 storage units only to find out when we got there they only had one on top of not being able to find our reservation. They said it was because I called their Arizona phone number. We had to rent another truck and find another unit at another storage place. When we moved out on June 26 they said again they couldn’t find our reservation again, also we wanted to change our drop off location to Digby 15 minutes from us but they said it would cost $800!! We rented the unit for 1 year There were numerous price increases about $150 difference . The after hours was pretty confusing so we had to move to an outside unit to have 247 hr access Our units door wouldn’t stay open we reported it and went to meet with the maintenance person but they didn’t show and apparently a work order wasn’t submitted even thou we complained. upon moving we noticed a huge leak destroying some boxes luckily it was nothing valuable. And caused minimal damage however could have definitely been a major issue. We didn’t have anything that contained food however upon moving we noticed chew boxes, materials, and rodent poop. We understand these things can happen, so we didn’t say much. The manager is pretty friendly but unfortunately I can’t say that for the rest of the staff, every time I had to speak with anyone it seemed to be an inconvenience for them. We had auto renew set up but twice there was a red lock put on our unit for no reason both times the rep saw my account was $0 and explained that sometimes there a delay with auto renew even thou the money has come out our account cause we were using a visa debit. I wish before the locked us out of our unit we paid for they verified first especially sense the reps were aware of the issue. The day I checked in the store was extremely busy. Only seemed to be one employee taking care of store and rental sales. And he performed very well. It was a stressful time moving but having the uhaul storage unit to utilize for a period of time made everything a little easier and having a friendly and professional staff both through the customer service phone line and in person staff made the experience much more enjoyable. staff were lazy.told me where van was parked but could not tell me which one was mine.it had snowed a couple days before.had have reserved so I expect it to be ready.No,i first had to find it by going from one to another and so on till key went in.then had to spend and hour trying to clear it off.when returning the van the staff member behind the desk was unhelpful and rude.jeff p. | First Impressions

My only negative comment would be that even though i had spoken with the manager many times and she knew we had a set leave day...which was not til 5th due to taking possession of my new home and we discussed this many times I arrived with truck trailer and moving friends with only a short window of time to move to find a padlock added to my lock to prevent me from accessing my things It felt like I was a delinquent and someone who was not paying their bills so I had to be locked out...it felt awful and it was a delay of going to office and waiting for some person to walk over to my unit It doesnt sound like much but I waa both insulted and annoyed as I was stressed already and asking favours of friends to meet that after uhaul and I knew exactly what the timing was agreed to be...saturday...as it turns out I emptied my unit by Thursday because of bad weather coming and I was told on Monday so long as I was out by Saturday I was fine That did not feel fineALISON P E. | Overall Experience

Very clean, secure and well lit. Trolleys to move items to your storage space were readily available and in good repair. I had my space for 2 months longer than expected but the price was reasonable and didn't break the bank. The Bayers Lake outlet in Halifax truly did exceed my expectations.
