I needed a storage unit for 3 days. And I rented a truck for two separate days. The staff member told me if I rent truck I get the storage unit free. I told the rep my needs from the onset and she told me the unit should suffice, that people put couches in there no problem. When I went to move my things in to unit, which was up movable stairs, it didn’t fit. So I then had no choice but to purchase a larger unit for $145, instead of getting a unit for free. Nothing that the staff did, it is the policy that is the problem. I shouldn’t have been limited to just a unit on the upper level, and there should have been something done to accommodate the wrong recommendation of the rep which inconvenienced me and made my experience with U-Haul worse. Original customer service agent at 155 Saw Mill River road was very helpful and called another location to verify that they had extra rentals since their location (155 saw mill) was out of the vehicle that i neeeded. Security is ineffective. I was often able to enter the building without scanning my card due to one of the doors being open - the rolling lift door was often open, and the man-door next to it does not close unless it is forcefully closed. I've learned that I can't rely on my fellow customers to actually close the door, so the card check-in "disarm" is a joke. It vaguely gives the illusion of security without actually adding anything secure. The floor is cracked and uneven, and it seems that no part of the entire property (indoors or out) is level. Carts roll away, and moving the rolling staircases over the floor is a struggle - even when the lowest step is lifted, the feet get caught on the uneven floors. The rolling staircases are all faulty - they lean when you're at the top of them, half of them are too short to reach an appropriate level to move things in and out of the upper lockers, none of he safety chains are appropriately installed or useful, and every single one of them is able to roll when the step lock is engaged. The hours are inconvenient - I'm really only able to access it on my days off, and on weekends hours are even more restricted. Of course, if I want to pay more I can have more access. Uhaul loves their nickels and dimes. The main reason I moved to another facility was because Uhaul did not have the appropriate size locker available that I needed, but I will not miss fearing for my life at the top of a rocking staircase that rolls out from underneath me.Zach M. | Overall Experience

I reserved the truck from the New Rochelle location and inexplicably they switched it to the Yonkers location. The only notification I received was a phone call on my way to New Rochelle location. If I wanted the Yonkers location I would have selected it. I certainly didn't want to sit in Westchester traffic and pay for the extra mileage! When I arrived at the Yonkers location the gentlemen behind the desk - who certainly doesn't seem to like his job - gave me keys to a truck and sent me on my way. That was easy until I got outside and found the truck stuck behind several other trucks/vans. When I went back in I had to wait for another customer to go through the whole check out process before I could explain the problem. I asked to be switched to another truck, but he said he couldn't do that, so he tried moving some of the trucks. When one of the trucks wouldn't start he finally admitted he actually could send me with a different truck. He also assured me I could change my drop off location by simply calling ahead which also turned out to not be true. He was nice and very apologetic. None of the hangups were especially egregious, but when all compounded it's frustrating to lose 1.5-2 hours on what should have been a simple task.NOAHALAN R.

I have complained about the check out online, when I try to check out in the location I found I have an only a slow internet connection and I wasn't able to check out, and when I went home and try to check out it start to ask to have PIC and I am already at home, so I ignore submitting the pic, and in the end, I charged 20$ for delay check-in!!:(MOHAMMAD T.

I got there at about 2 minutes to 7:00pm which is closing time. The doors were still unlocked and was told they were closed that I had to close out the contract myself which can take some time. Requesting to return the gas tank at Â¾ full is very dishonest on Uhaul. I drove 15 miles, but refilled 10 gallons- 30$. I am not experienced in this type of practice: I cannot know when to stop the pump to stop at Â¾ ... but to end up paying about $2/mile in gas is a ripoff. Uhaul you can do better!!! You charged me a return fee when I dropped it off myself after hours. I was told I would only be charged that fee if I returned it and a person checked it in. There is no option to check it in myself online AS YOU IMPLY WHEN MAKING TH E CONTRACT. The only way to return online is by joining up and registering an account. THIS INFORMATION NEEDS TO MADE CLEAR - as it is you charged me $20 that I did not authorize nor anticipate because it was not made clear. While as a digital person, I love the ways in which we rent now, via text and all, I believe you should give choices to ppl who are less technologically able, or who may have some disabilities. We were given a uhaul that had a check engine light on and whose front driver side door didn't work. I had to climb in from the passenger side door which became a much bigger problem when the truck wouldn't start.NICHOLAS S.
Charged higher rates than other locations, why?, no standardized rates ? Arrived at 8:55 and was told they were no open. But it was open, they just couldn't be bothered to get started. The truck had a check engine light on, was told dont worry about it. After I got on the highway, i noticed a loud wind noise from the drivers door. After I closed it again to make sure it was closed properly, I noticed a large gap in the door frame. There was a repair on that door that was done very poorly, causing the loud wind noise. While driving around 60mph the truck had a very bad vibration and the steering was off. The staff in the office were very pleasant and very accommodating.GARYM F.

I was lied to on my initial visit to rent a 5x10x8 storage unit to move into the next day. I had asked for a first floor unit, climate controlled area so I can easily and comfortably move my furniture in and out as needed. I was offered the 69.95 monthly promo for a 5x10x8, with free 1st month along with a uhaul cargo van rental. So I get there yesterday morning and find out that the first floor unit is only accessible with a rolling ladder and the area is onlt heated. I was not told this the day before so I didn't search for other options. It was impossible to get any of the furniture up the rolling ladder into the unit and on an extremely hot day a climate controlled area would make the job easier. And my only other option for what I wanted was a bottom unit at 144.95. This was a lie and of course a classic bait and switch. So I cancelled my contract and went right next door to Public Storage and got a real 5x10x8 in a climate controlled area and just wheeled my furniture in, in less than a half hour. 57.95 a month, just no 1st month free. I would never consider uhaul storage again. Thanks for wasting 2 hours of my time on a real hot day.william f. | First Impressions
