On Saturday night - Shawn/Sean was AMAZING he took the truck inspected it together and sent me to my new home with a smile! He was extremely nice and took interest in my move and how everything went. However, on Sunday morning I was left a nasty and board line threatening disrespectful voicemail about me dropping the truck off at the wrong location. I called back and was forwarded to the corporate office. Corporate employee Toysha filed a claim baring the claim number as 2250237

I had the very worst experience dealing with the owner who’s very rude, harsh and dishonest. On 05/13/19 I rented a truck and trailer. He charged me double. He would not take proof by email,so now I have to take a day off drive back to NJ (gas and toll ) he claimed he would reimburse but didn’t., but uhaul reimbursed me but not Mr . Rude .....Never this location again.

I would recommend it but I think there should have been more staff on hand given that it was the first Saturday of the month and that's certainly a big moving day for many people. The line to pick up my reservation was long and slow moving. Night drop off is awesome.

Absolutely HORRIBLE!!! When making a reservation online, I decided to do the mobile check in to make life a bit easier as I was moving that day. I showed up, did what they asked me to do on my phone to check in, and sent me to multiple different people and different places on the lot. Not one person knew what to do with me, even when I had the number of the car I was supposed to be taking. After 20 minutes of confusion, we finally got the U-Haul and left. Moving took longer then expected so we ended up returning the truck the next afternoon. Fast forward to 2 days later and they are STILL CHARGING ME FOR THE TRUCK!! And they have the audacity to say that I caused damage to the car because there was a large scratch on the passenger side that was there upon orignially getting the car (and I have video proof of this). When I reached out to customer support to help fix the check in of the car to show that I dropped it off Saturday and not Tuesday, they said it would be noted and not an issue. Apparently that was a lie because the bill I got today still is charging me for damage and the "extra time" that we didn't even have the truck. I will NEVER USE UHAUL AGAIN!!!!!!

I would never use this location again. First, I was charged on my card 4 times, Im still waiting 4 days later for some of the charges to drop second I was charged for gas and I filled up, up the hill right before I returned it and I know it was above where I got it but since I was rushed out - the man said just give me the keys you will get a receipt via email and he walked away - didnt check anything just disappeared with the keys so i left. I didnt see the charge until I was home and at that point how can I prove it. Overall it was a horrible experience I'd rather go to the one on communipaw.

The line took an hour just to get the keys. The process was unclear and the staff were not helpful. I didn't know who to talk to at any given moment (aside from when I was in line), and so I never got my dolly, which I had requested.

I had a very poor experience from start to finish. I spent several hours on the phone trying to book my uhaul, including a 45 min call and dozens of failed 6 min calls to U-Haul Chelsea during the day to answer a simple question. I finally booked a reasonable option out of jersey city due to limited availability in the Chelsea location 10 days. This location was then switched to saddle brook NJ (out of the 30 mile range). I finally resolved this after several long calls but it was a huge pain. The day we picked up the uhaul there was a line out of the door (10am on a Friday) that lasted ~2 hours. Additionally, my driver side floor mat was covering a colony of ants throughout the uhaul, and the experience concluded with rude representatives at the Chelsea location during the drop off process. Please let me know what you can to do reconcile these issues.

Not make customers wait 30 minutes outside for their vehicle. After waiting in line to get my rental slip for 30 minutes, I watched 3 customers who were checked in after me get into their rentals and drive off before me. I waited so long that i was unable to do the normal website checkin because the link that was texted to me when i checked out had expired. They forgot my furniture dolly rental and i was too distracted by how late i was running to notice until i got to my apartment (which made my move significantly more painful). Also, I selected a different pickup location when i was going thru the online booking process but this pickup location was then listed in my confirmation email. I had to uber from the place i thought i booked to this place. I am never booking a uhaul online again.

There are not enough parking spaces for customers who come to pick up vehicles. Due to additional verification steps required by U-Haul, namely the phone number verification, the online check-in is pointless, as I still have to wait at the counter and speak with someone to pick up my rental. These two factors resulted in 30 min of wait time before I was actually able to drive the rental to my destination.

It was torrentially down-pouring when we arrived at 6:15pm on Thursday to drop off the trailer. I called in advance as per the drop off instructions on the receipt and waited on hold for 20 minutes before being told I just needed to show up, there was no need to call. Bob who answered was extremely polite, and was the best part of our U-Haul experience. I was expecting to have a long line to checkout and when I walked in there were about 12 people online in the store, so I left my dad with the car and trailer outside. After a few minutes I received a phone call from my Dad who said the man outside said we did not need to wait, the trailer was returned and we would be emailed a receipt. After getting home at 11pm, my account still reflected that the trailer was in my possession. I emailed and messaged your customer service department and did not get a response by 8am so I called the location again to ask when I would receive a receipt and my account reflect that I had returned the trailer. The woman who answered told me the email must have gone to my spam, and I explained again that my account had not been updated. She put me on hold, I checked my account in the meantime that now showed I no longer had an active reservation, and she came back on the phone to tell me she sent another copy of my receipt (and not acknowledge there was an issue from the beginning).

I return the rental back at 4:40PM didn’t get my receipt until the following day with a bill for a damage vehicle that I did not damage, when I drop off the vehicle the employee told me I would get my receipt in my email. Did not say anything about damage. I wanted to confirm my mileage and we did so. This place trying to charge me $201 for damage I didn’t do, will like my refund immediately and the employee need to be fired

The people at this location were friendly and helpful, but overall I’m extremely dissatisfied with my uHaul experience. I reserved a 26’ truck 1-2 weeks in advance. The night before our move, uHaul calls and tells me my 26’ truck is not available. The best they have is a 20’ truck at a location 3x the distance away. I show up the next morning and check in online, expecting to get my truck and equipment quickly and head out. The app tells me I need to go inside and talk to an associate. I waited in line for 30+ minutes (I had movers coming and many other things planned for move day and this introduced delays). When it was finally my turn, the associate tells me no 20’ trucks are available and told me she was getting me a 17’. I gave her the cold stare of death and told her that was completely unacceptable and what I really needed was the 26’ I reserved 1-2 weeks previous. She overall was pretty helpful and managed to get me a 20’ truck that was about to run out of gas, then I waited while they loaded the supplies I ordered. I then proceeded to the gas station, further delaying the start of my move. However, the truck was far too small. We had to Tetris everything in there and had to throw away $500 worth in furniture (a dresser, bookshelf, and small wardrobe) because there was no way they’d fit in the truck and we were already two hours behind schedule due to having to cram everything into the too-small truck. This has firmly convinced me to never use uHaul again failing to fulfill a customer commitment multiple times. Thank you for making a stressful move all the more painful.

Staff is very rude and doesn’t care about customer service. Had to stay in line for ten minutes even though none was ahead of me just because Uhal rep decide to be on his cell .... fuel wasn’t at the level indicated in the paperwork... it took another to give out the keys... overall poor customer service...please show some respect and care for your customers before they look for other services

I am very unhappy that my pick up location was changed from the requested location. I had to sit in 1.5 hours of New York area rush hour traffic because UHaul amended my pickup location to a “nearby” location 4.1 miles away directly next to a Manhattan-bound tunnel. I specifically requested the original location because I would NOT have to deal with NY traffic, and this type of customer experience completely failed to meet my expectations. Your policy of being able to provide a “nearby” location in lieu of the scheduled location should NOT apply if it massively inconveniences a customer. I had to pay my moving labor for the excess 1.5 hours of time I was unable to be at my apartment due to your location policy, and I am extremely unhappy with UHaul as a result. This cost me hundreds of dollars I should not have had to spend.

The Chelsea location was impossible to get to. We were forced to drive around NYC for 2 hours trying to find a street which was open to access the return center. All entrances were completely closed with road work. If this were the case, we should have been told in advance so that we could return the truck to a better location.

The trailer I needed was in another parking lot, I had to drive my huge RV to that location after completing my contract.. I feel that the trailer should have been in the front waiting for me. An argument could be made saying that if you did that for every client you wouldn't have room = valid. Solution = once client arrives, go get the trailer while he/she fills the contract. When I reserved on the phone, both pickup and especially drop off locations were not the closest or most convenient by far. I ended up dropping the trailer off 3 miles from my home instead of the 50 miles!!! away location I was told was the closest. there are probably 20 locations closer without exaggeration.

This is my to go place any time I need a Uhaul. They always have all kind of trucks available and the supply shop at the location itself is very handy. Moreover all the supplies are priced very competitively and it is very convenient.

Everything was good but by mistake I put almost half a tank extra of gasoline and i didn't get reimburse for it, if you return the vehicle with less gas they charge you why not reimburse you if there is extra? We are talking about half a tank, it's not fair.

First of all I was supposed to pick up the truck at Irvington NJ. 10 A_M Once there I was told to pick it up the truck in Jersey City. I paid $174 . When I returned the truck I was informed I had to pay another, $50 including tax total. $62.00 because they claimed I put extra milesge. I gave them the mileage door to door. I will never rent from UHaul again. They charged me for extra mileage but I didn't complain when I had to leave late due to last minute delay on their part. So it cost me $236 just to rent a truck, charge me for extra mileage. That is highway robbery. Never again will I use UHaul. Bunch of crooks.

It isn’t about the location but U-Haul over all. They are huge ripoffs. The gas bill came up to about $450. My father has a big truck like that and there is no reason it should have cost that much for the gas. Then on top of that they also claimed the chains were messed up when they went back the same way in which we received them. Chains are for wear and tare correct? The worse part was not even that. Upon our arrival before me and my boyfriend were approached with a polite greeting a man yells from 10 feet away prior to observing the truck “YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CHAINS” very aggressively. No hello, no looking at the vehicle up close. Then proceeded to be rude when asked to stop being so aggressive. Again another tactic to get more money after I’ve paid $1500. If it was bad enough that we had just come off the road then to be met with this sort of behavior. I will let people who I know to not go to this jersey city location. We felt attacked by this man and after spending so much money, I regret it. Customer service means everything to me but clearly not to this company or location.I’m disappointed with how much money they got.

Was given a dirty truck with mirrors that were locked in position with rust. It smelled like sweat and fast food. The gas gauge was not accurate and read a half a tank which is what it should be returned at, but $80 later it still read half tank. The truck steering was very loose and the truck squealed and groaned. It should not be on the road! I booked for a Bayonne pick up and was told that is only a preference not a request.

I called in advance to make sure I can park my personal vehicle in their parking lot and I was assured that as long as there was an available space, I would be fine. After renting my uhaul and returning that night to drop it off, I found my vehicle blocked in by uhaul trucks. I spent the night in my car, unable to leave. I was told in the morning, they would place my contract on hold and give me a call to see what they could do for me. No call was received, the next day, I was emailed a receipt. Terrible customer service.

This was not the U haul store I reserved a truck from, so by the U haul store I wanted to rent from was close for my move, they said I had to have the truck back before they close they wont rent to me. So I had to rent a truck 16 miles round trip to pick up and drop off truck a got charged $ 2.00 a miles extra. that did not make me happy. i'll rethink about renting from U haul again in the future. Not a happy customer U HAUL!!!

I originally booked the U-Haul of Chelsea location for an 'after hours dropoff' for my move from Chicago. Drove 13 hours, unloaded the truck up 4 floors and brought the truck here, only to be presented with no way to drop it off. The location DOES NOT offer after hours drop off, even though the U-Haul website allows you to book it for such at 4am. The only reason I chose U-Haul over a Budget Truck was because of the close drop-off location to my new home. I would have saved $150 otherwise. After calling into customer service I was told it was MY FAULT for choosing the location - are you kidding me?!?! I then was told my only choice was to drive the truck to a 24 hour drop-off location in New Jersey. After being told by the customer service line that my info would be passed to someone regarding my issues to discuss compensation for my troubles. I was contacted by one of the local managers - Melissa a few days later and essentially told that they would only be refunding my Uber cost back from New Jersey. Never once did this horrible company or their manager genuinely apologize for this being an issue on their end. In fact, she even asked me why I chose to drop the truck off in New Jersey when THEIR REP told me that was the only option at 1 in the freakin morning. I've followed up multiple times after the initial offer for a ridiculous, insulting refund (for only the Uber cost and a $30 U-Haul credit) and Melissa has not responded. It's been over a month now. I highly suggest that if you're reading this, book your moving truck with another company! Save yourself the inconvenience and frustration of dealing with a company that doesn't understand how customer service works. Will never use this company again and will spread the word to all who will listen of my experience. As a bonus, I left my headphones in the truck and called back the next day to be told that they didn’t find them. Shocker!

You could work on improving the online experience. It says that you can book a truck to get a faster pick up and avoid the line at the counter, but I waited 20 minutes for approval! Booking at the counter would’ve been faster.

My drop off did not accept the truck and asked me to bring to 190 Baldwin ave. Then your staff didn’t accept the truck too. I will be penalize if I insist. I don’t understand what’s going on. Then they told me to bring it at 276 Tonnelle ave. Finally they accept it. I almost come late at work because of this. Take Uber because too far dropped off.

I returned the trailer 5 minutes after closing, Sunday. The yard man was still there to help disconnect. Monday morning the branch sent me a Invoice for (2) days. Manager Dominique even told me no extra charges for being a little late. I would like credit for the second day.

It was pretty easy to pick up the truck, which was great because moving day is already very estressful itself, you don’t need anything to make it more complicated. Thank you :)

I had to wait in a line for 25 minutes to sign in for my truck (which I thought was the point of doing this online). Then once they assigned me a truck the couldn't find the keys and I was standing outside waiting for another 30 minutes. There was no parking at the location and they told me I'd have to park somewhere down the highway and walk back in the rain if I needed parking until a spot opened up just before I left. When I came back to return the truck there was barely any room for me to pull into the parking lot and my car was blocked in by all of the other Uhauls people brought back forcing me to drive over the curb to exit. Awful experience, awful customer service and an awful location.

Worst service and experience ever; never rent a truck from Uhaul, especially this location; I had my reservation one month ago; just one hour before picking the Truck at 10am, I received a message saying they have changed the pick up time to 4pm, unbelievable ,e specially when you have already booked the elevator to move out and move in. No one of course picked the phone in the customer service, so i drove there and the answer was, the time in the confirmation was your preferred time !!!!! After discussion, they were able to give me 10' truck rather than the 15' truck I initially reserved. I accepted, I have no choice; and I drove back to may building to move my stuff; When I opened the cargo; surprise; the truck was already full of garbage, broken items and stuff of someone else !!!!! Hopefully I was moving to a building 30 feet from my old place, so I moved everything by hand; Uhaul is the worst service ever; I will write a bad review every day until I forget the pain I went through;

I locked my watch in the van afternoon I put the Keys in the Drop box. I called this morning to get the people in jersey city to get it for me and they said they can’t find it. It’s absolutely ridiculous. The watch was in the van, someone from uhaul just decided to take it and pretend it wasn’t there. It’s a joke, I’ve never had any issues with any uhaul rental but after pure theft, I will not Be using you again

I asked for the truck at 830 but was delayed picking it up until nearly 10. Even with the extra time, they failed to find the truck was broken and required repair (plate in the back broken). They said it would be a couple of minutes and instead it was nearly an hour).

The Tonnelle Ave unit is highly helpful. The truck was very clean and well maintained. Sean truck delivery person is so kind and helped me during my return processing. Online pickup is an added advantage to this site. Overall these guys are awesome. Good Job Guys.

Stop taking money off your debit card than ask for a cash deposit because their system is not capable of distinguishing a debit card. I will be contacting their corporate office to get a refund on my debit card.

Pick up was clunky and took 35 minutes even though I registered online, poor communication from customer service as to what was happening, they used personal cell phones to take a photo of my license and manually entered my CC info, chip reader and scanner didn't work... The drop off was great. Friendly and quick staff.

I returned the vehicle later than expected, due to unforeseen circumstances. I did receive daily reminder calls and emails, however, they were not in a harassing manner. To me, that matters, as one never knows the circumstances one has to move, nor the personal life issues one bears during these times. I've always rented from this location and have never had an issue. The young lady that checked me in happened to be the same that checked me out... and she was as pleasant as ever!

Received the truck dirty with popcorn on the ground in the driver's compartment and dirty/leaves/etc. in the cargo section. Was later charged $20 for cleaning, but thankfully refunded after filing a complaint. However, they did not have the correct meter reading down which lead to us being charged for driving over 50 miles, even though we went from Jersey City, to Hoboken, to Edgewater, to Fort Lee. It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE that we went over 50 miles, meaning that the error was on the original location for having the wrong number written down on our contract. We still have not received a refund for this; I hadn't thought to take pictures before/after of the speedometer as I didn't ever expect this to be an issue.
