My rental was given away because I was standing in line when the 60 minute grace period was exceeded. It would've been good to know that I only be an hour late before my reservation would be given away. Fortunately, the customer service line was able to give me back my truck reservation. They did a Great Job of giving the informational orientation. The Truck could have stood to have the cargo floor mopped. I imagine that is probably done during the week versus on a Saturday. The Personnel there were helpful, courteous, mindful of the customer and excellent listener's and acknowledged what you were saying. I called the 800-number call center to move my reservation from 0900 to 1500. On transferring call to schedule center, call was answered, then hung up. I arrived at 1503 to find my reservation cancelled with no notice to me! Owner, John was able to retrieve it, but I was not happy. First two auto carriers had missing tie-down straps.Gregory H.
The place where the utility trailer are located are on a hill. When Staff was installing trailer on my vehicle, the trailer had too much momentum because of the downward hill. The trailer coupler smashed into my bumper and dented and scratched the bumper right above my hitchAzal K.

First thing the location from which I was to pick the truck up was changed without notifying or being approved by me which caused me to put more mileage on that vehicle and have to pay more secondly the location they chose did not have a truck available but luckily it was a truck that was deemed out of service but it wasn't due to mechanical issues but due to the window having vice grips attached and I was allowed to use that truck which was a horrible ride but the employees at that location were excellent great did everything to try to make things rightwill T.

Travel almost an hr to get my truck since there was not one anywhere else. Told 3 different people on the phone and in person at another facility to pls make sure my dolly was in the truck. I was trying to move a bunch of stuff in the truck that night since we had to leave early next morning. I had to get there by a certain time to pick up my rental car to get back home. Got there no dolly in the truck called U-Haul support 1st person had me on hold for a while after I told her What I was calling about never came back then someone else come on the phone not knowing why I am calling. After finally her understanding why I am calling she calls the manager to tell him there was no dolly she come back and tell me how she woke him up like it was an inconvenience and that he said he had no one to come up there. I had made arrangements with my storage if I got there before closing they would let us out so that I could get the stuff load out of storage to take with us. But because of all of this I could not make it to my storage to get my stuff I needed and I needed the dolly because it was a washer dryer dresser small couch dining room set and boxes. There was only me my two daughters that were going to do this. With a dolly it would have made it easier for us. So keep in mind we live in Smyrna TN drove to MadisonTn which is on our way out of town. That manager wanted us to drive back over there the next morning and pick up one. Why should I have to drive almost an hr in the direction I am leaving going out of town and come back to Smyrna to go back that way again to leave out. I ask for a supervisor Jenn who was great and understanding of how I felt and did everything she could do in her power to help. She found a dolly around the corner from me we went picked up when they opened after we called first to make sure that had one. When my daughter brought the dolly back we loaded up the stuff in the house and left for the storage we got everything loaded up and left. Our plan was to load up the storage stuff first since it was the heaviest and we would be passing by it on our way back from getting the truck then that stuff would be done we would just do the house stuff that night lock up the truck and we would be off on the road at 6:15 am. My daughter had to be in Lexington KY before 3pm to sign her lease to get her keys to move in. I was supposed to pick my rental up before 1pm. They are an hr ahead of us so this mess threw me back by hrs. You can't drive a U-Haul truck like you can a car or suv, at least I don't. Reason for planning to leave at 6:15am already loaded and we would have been there by 12 noon their time. The later we were leaving here was even later us getting there. She made it to sign her lease in time the lady waited for her when we told her how close we were. I on the other hand missed getting my car rental because they closed and no one could wait hrs til I got there. You have to do all that in person. Ended up having to drive that rental U-Haul back home since I did not have a way back home. This was the most stressful event this weekend and now they want to charge me over 700. Now I can say they gave me some extra miles but my plan was not to spend any more money on gas for that truck I've 80.00 to fill it up 3 times. That is. It money I budgeted for but again I had to get back home. No I did not take the truck back to Madison how was I going to get to my house in Smyrna. So I took my other daughter that came back with me to our house to get my car and meet me at the U-Haul that was 8-9 minutes away. Granted the dolly got taken off and a little more but to be charged all that when it was their fault from the beginning by not making sure the dolly was in the truck. I even looked in other trucks to see if they had one in there but they didn't. Some was returning a dolly and I asked them if they had one they said no. So I tried to get one that night. The first time this happened to me I was like ok I will work it out and they took it off my bill but this time it was crucial to have that dolly considering all we had to move and it was just me and my daughters doing the moving and we were on time constraints. I would like for someone higher up from U-Haul to call me and reach out to me personally to make this right.Marie B.

My rental was set for a pickup, Apparently it was rented to someone that was supposed to return it in time but he didn't. They offered to send me to another location, I rejected the offer because that would've been a mileage increase. Plus the mileage went up from .69 to 79 cents. They offered me a 10in truck which I've never pulled my trailer with. I stick to what I know which is the pick up. Tried hooking my trailer up on the 10in, although it's a 2inch ball, for some reason my trailer would not stay on it. My car has a 2inch, and my trailer dies the sanething that's why I rent the pickup, The clerk did allow me to bring the truck back on half tank vs where it was at which was not much over the half. When I brought the 10in back I explained to him why the truck wouldn't work he insisted that it should have worked. I told him I understand but I have that issue with my car as well. He stated that if I had a problem with payment to see hiss manager. I did have a problem. This wasn't the rental I signed up for. If you knew you have a Reserva on a pickup, seems to have been the last pick up, why would you rent it out. He blamed it on the manager. So I'm spending more money and being inconvenienced because of their mistake. I spent 65 dollars on nothing and turn around a have to do another rental next week to complete my task. Sad part about it is, the manager was standing right there and said nothing. I've always rented from that location in Madison. After next week, I'll start going to the other Madison location. I do appreciate te clerk trying to make it right with the 10in but it just didn't work. Thank you!Rhonda H.

He never stopped to let the person on the phone know he had a customer and he acted like me being there was bothering him. I didn't feel welcomed or assisted at all. I was not greeted when I walked into the store. Had to stand there for about 10 minutes before anyone could help me. They came in talking about a truck, not knowing it would be the truck I got. They told me the engine light was on but it was fine and it was loud. I was on the highway and it started making noises and didn't want to take off. I thought I was gonna have to pull over and call them. It was hard getting it in drive because it was skipping gears. This was not a vehicle that should have been given to anyone and they knew it had issues! The guy that waited on me when I returned it was really nice and took car of me. This could have been very dangerous and I feel like my life was knowingly put at risk because that vehicle has mechanical issues and should never had been rented.Monique W.

The access code never did really work correctly and seems moot since there is no gate. There were dirt dauber nests on every wall and was it was severely infested with roaches. Employee's need to give better customer service, the truck I rented needs to be cleaned and taken to a mechanic. The truck began to shake once I reached 45 mph. As well the driver side door handle from inside was broken. However, an employee named Zachery said he would give me a discount towards my total once the truck was returned. But he didn't and instead charged me a gas fuel fee, even though I put gas in the truck. Overall this location needs better management and operational experience.Lakeisha P.

The truck I rented started once and never again. I spent ~1.5 hours waiting on roadside assistance and another 3 hours waiting for a tow truck due to the ignition switch needing to be replaced. According to roadside, the switch had already been replaced once. The key provided did not work in the doors, so I'm fortunate I did not lock myself out on top of everything else. Many calls to the UHaul over the course of the day to get help, and it was impossible to get someone from the store to answer the phone so I was routed to the call center every time. The person behind the counter was friendly and I was not charged after all of the trouble, but I will not be renting here or from any UHaul in the future.Dennis M.

Mice and red wasps were a significant problem in my unit. I was assured at move in that pest control was a top priority for the facility. All off my items were stored in plastic bins, not cardboard boxes. However, several priceless heirlooms were damaged beyond repair by mice nests, urine, and feces. I was stung last summer when I opened my unit for sorting some items. I reported the wasps nests, and knocked down the nests myself repeatedly. My account was on autopay. More than once, I received a bill with “late fees” because the billing was not processed as expected. When I tried to contact the store, I went into corporate UHaul phone systems that were unable to resolve the issue or a never ending loop only to be told I’d need to physically visit the local office and pay my bill (even though it was in auto pay). Brandon and John are fantastic employees. Their hands are tied by an inefficient corporate structure that surrounds them. Note: The fencing at the back of the property near the train tracks is not secure. Two different times I was at my unit (toward the back of the property), the same couple was hanging out under the covered porch area. One time, they were arguing, and the argument escalated into physical blows. I immediately locked my unit and reported the incident to the office. I was unable to complete my unit sorting at the time due to the incident. This was not due to the fault of the workers. Staff have been accommodating, helpful, and customer service has been as expected. I have been credited fees and accommodated, but the pests were never under control. Building B has a mouse problem. Please ensure this is taken care of before promising patrons that their heirlooms and items will be safe from pests. Thank you to Brandon and John for their continued solutions. I transferred my larger #45 unit to someone that shared half the space the last few months, we went inside the store in June 2020 with driver's licenses, credit cards, signed, auto pay, no longer my unit. In Dec 2020, I got the smaller #91 unit and discovered that my name was still on her #45 account online, I couldn't get to my #91 online because I was listed as hers for #45, her info also on it instead of my #91, couldn't pay my account or set up my usual auto pay. I received aggressive emails with a former manager's name at the bottom, the new manager of the past year not on the e-mails. No one could fix any of this with MANY unpleasant and lengthy attempts, no one could take responsibility, calling the 800# didn't help after much effort, and could never reach the Madison storage unit location by phone. I also had an especially hostile encounter with the employee Rory who did not respect me as a customer or believe anything that I said I was told and charged me a $39 late fee the first time I went in to try to get auto pay fixed in person since I couldn't get anything fixed online or through the 800#. The worker must have had a really bad day. We arrived 15 minutes before closing with 2 trucks to return and 2 storage units reserved, and the man on staff walked in from his truck, told me they closed in 15 minutes and I should come back tomorrow. I asked to get started with the time available and finish our transaction- he then threw something down, and was as minimally helpful as possible in acknowledging and printing receipt. Two lots to park the trucks and trailers, but mostly all of them were kept by the storage units causing it to be difficult to get in and out at times. Anytime the parking stall has blue paint it means that it is Handicap. My last day there an employee made me park where it was painted blue. She argued that it is not Handicap. Just because you start to scrape away the painted sign doesn't make it not Handicap, there is still blue and a ticket can still be issued.Jean H. | Overall Experience
Rat droppings and a caved in ceiling that damaged lamps and pictures that apparently got wet and had to be thrown away. I was not given a refund for the days I didn't use the storage, but conveniently charge 25.00 if I was a day late. I moved out the 28th of the month so that's 5 days before the next bill was due. Specifically reserved a drive-up storage unit as I have a few very heavy items, including a real-wood dresser that weighs about 500 lbs. I received confirmation that I had a drive up unit reserved and when I got there after a 12 hour drive the facility had a second floor unit that was only accessible by a huge ramp. We were displaced due to a horrible tornado that took out our home and belongings. I was loading items into my storage unit at the Madison, TN location alone. The ramp to the second floor unit was not large enough to pull the cart up with the boxes. It is a huge mess. I asked someone at the counter if they could just help me pull the cart up the ramp, which would take one minute of muscle. To which, a very dirty, unkempt woman with a big septum piercing looked at me and said "that's not my job sorry" and her coworker appeared to be concerned, but that's all that it was, appearances. She kept herself behind the counter while I cried. My posessions were broken from attempting to go up this ramp. So after losing almost everything, I lost more because one person couldnt be bothered to lend me a hand. This is absolutely shameful, and the Madison location should be ashamed of themselves.
