Got charged for an extra day of rent when we were told we'd only be charged for a few hours for turning in the truck after 7 pm. Otherwise it was a smooth process.

JASON MI have used U-Haul several times. Once I was sent from Wisconsin to Ohio on a major holiday with a working trailer that lights were not only not working but were rusted out and disconnected. I was told that they were ok at the time of rental when I asked them to be checked before I left the dealership. What a mess that turned out to be. Another was brought to my location and all my possessions had to be transferred to another trailer right there. What a mess! A few years later I went to rent up a big truck and when I got there, I was forced to take the very large one. Also, no one warned me of the stopping distance needed, the truck was packed full. But when I got on the road I discovered that there wasn't any air conditioning. Have you ever driven one on the highway with the windows down. I'm referring to the noise... But this experience was undoubtedly the worst!!! They told me that they were the closest location to my home but it wasn't and they refused to bring the cargo van to that location because it was a smaller privately owned dealership. I was told at the reservation number that they should be able to take a van there. The district Dayton office knew I was upset so he gave me a free extra hour that I never needed but I did appreciate the offer. When I went to pick up the cargo van on Miller lane that's when the disaster started...First , I was given the wrong directions but luckily I took a test run and found that out. The man at the Dayton Ohio office had put down that I was keeping the van until 10:30 PM and it was a 5 to 6 PM rental. After 3 discussions and my giving them my email and other information, they hadn't recorded any of that and when I got to the dealership I thought that it would be an easy rental. Boy, was I wrong!!! I was quoted $19.95 +1.00 environmental charge+ $1.00 a mile and gas used. I was quickly notified that a $15.00 nonrefundable insurance fee is added (without prior notification!) The salesman basically put a lot of verbal pressure on me threatening what would happen if I didn't get it. I started to walk from being disgusted. I had planned and figured out every detail and cost down to the penny before hand and the final amount that they arrived at was $71.00 for a 19.99 rental!!! Worst of all, when I went to pay cash... they said I had to pay with a credit card...which I never intended to do because of the interest. To make things worse, if I started to leave because the situation was becoming so unbearable and I didn't have any idea what I should do the salesman would wipe out the whole contract and we had to start all over again. The salesman seemed very incompetent, and he couldn't even hardly type. It only got worse when he couldn't figure out the mileage that I was going to use and tried to guess (they said speculate).He should have had a calculator lie at other dealerships or just googled it like I had done at home. I told him my exact route and destinations to pick up a sofa in Huber Heights and take it to my home and return the truck and he just seemed dumbfounded. And he miscalculated. Almost 45 minutes later we finally left tired, and mad with the van and disgusted with a $71.00 bill charged to my cc account wondering about all the extra charges and details that we were not warned or notified about! The worst was yet to come... The same inexperienced salesman that we dealt with earlier, came out to inspect the van and to calculate the miles used and again miscalculated my 11 miles, he couldn't even do simple math... At that point another salesman took over to finalize the rental cost and made all the necessary and ' boy' were ready to get as far away from that rental location on Miller Lane as quickly. This is a renter beware notification!
SUE CCheck in and picking up process was great! Checking out and the guy who did my return were awesome. The owner however was not helpful at all and putting blame on us for an issue with the reservation instead of trying to be accommodating at all. Would rather drive to a further location next time to rent then give that guy our money again.

KURT HI was already late, returning the truck by about seven minutes. The guy that helped me, took even longer to log into his portal, which intern made me responsible to pay even more money for returning the truck late. I don’t appreciate this at all.

MICHAELA CHave more than one employee working at such a large operation. My pickup time was 4:45. I didn’t leave until 5:30 pm. Which made me late for a scheduled pickup. There were 4 -5 other customers trying to get help. Not sure how the utility cart got added on to my bill that I didn’t take with me?
