I had a very poor experience with my UHAUL storage unit rental. The storage unit facility gate was open and unlocked at least 75% of the time, and the facility was “unmanned” due to staffing. Then the building to where my unit was is unlocked and had no lightbulbs. I had to purchase lights and install them myself, I shouldn’t have to do that. The staff at the office seemed closer to illiterate than sane and it pisses me off. I was in their office and the man helping me could barely talk and fell asleep twice while trying to help me out. The facility was not clean or maintained. My unit flooded and turned to ice and ruined some of my belonging in the unit. Some of them I couldn’t even get out of the 6 inches of ice covering the entire unit floor. Those items are still there. The unit was not secure and anyone could have broken I’m with no tools or easy and steal the $5000-$6000 worth of items I had in there. The most expensive price of equipment in the unit was frozen in the ice and was damaged after i got it out of the ice. This looks bad for UHAUL. There were no security cameras in the area my unit was. Lastly, I moved out of my unit and still got charged rent and two delinquent fees after the man at the office said I wouldn’t be charged for my move out month. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with UHAUL. I will not be recommending their products or services anymore, rather I will be sharing that people should not use their devices at all here in Alaska. 0 out of 5 stars from me. The last 4 yrs were awful. Rents raised 3 times, leaks, holes in wall, doors blocked by snow.. the gate seldom worked, no manager, no way to contact anyone in Fairbanks about issues. Had to drive to town office to get help. I made many complaints no reply. Continuos management changes. First 2 yrs great then site office closed. the anchorage regional manager change things. The snow plow guy would not do his job and plow the lot. So if you want to speedily get in and out of your storage space in the winter, do not expect it to be quick. Also I found some plyers that I did not leave inside my vehicle's hood and might have meant someone could have been tampering with my rig. It took me over four months to access the parking spot for my RV. When I first got a shot in the lot, it was staffed and someone could give me access to the area. Since then, the facility became unmanned. I attempted to call the college road facility, but my calls were consistently rerouted to a remote operator. I could never get anyone to return my calls or meet me at the facility to gain access. When I initially got the spot, there wasn't even space available to park my RV. The “lot” or dirt hill is full of abandoned and broke down vehicles and resembles a junkyard. The remainder of the facility is in various stares of disrepair. When I moved into my Old Steese storage unit, I thought the place looked dumpy and susceptible to break-ins. It certainly did not feel secure. The electronic access gate was open, and based on the snow piled up on it looked like it had not operated in some time. I moved in Sunday and received a call on Tuesday that my unit had been broken into on Monday, after only one day. Luckily it was actually an adjacent unit that was broken into, but my suspicions regarding security were confirmed. If I had seen this location before being offered a month of free storage, I would not have stored my items there. After the break in, I moved my belongings as quickly as I could arrange vehicles and assistance. Renting a storage unit from you has been a complete fiasco. From start to finish, I have had nothing but issues with how disorganized the staff have been. It’s impossible to get a hold of anyone on the phone as well, so I keep having to make time to go to the office to clear up the myriad issues there have been with my rental. The storage facility is old and looks to be falling apart in many areas. I could not find my small storage space as it was inside of another larger one. The customer service employee failed to mention that information to me. The storage space had someone else’s dirty junk as well as food particles inside. Additionally, the walkway outside the storage space had trash someone had left behind. The walls/dividers between the 3x5x8 units is particle board and the locker next to the one I was assigned had clearly been broken into at some point. I was told that an employee stops by the location once a day to do a walk through and check for problems, but must not do a very thorough job. I didn’t even load my things into the compartment. The original storage units given to us were no better than a 20 year old neglected shed. We went back to the main office and told them that those units were unacceptable and luckily a nice larger unit was just vacated so we could have that one. Customer service representive Aimme Ward did not know how to check in the uhaul took her over 45 minutes to figure it out and then couldn't honor my reservation refund called managers and couldn't get anyone on the phone to help her she double charged my credit card 2 times and for the wrong amount And not to mentioned the original reservation and pick up was not honored we waited at this place for 4 hours before they sent me to another location to pick up a truck which was wrong size not the original size requested and then wouldn't honor the $50 reservation refund small little trailer that was over 120 degrees inside and sat there for 45 minutes trying to get this figured had to call my credit card company and prove to the lady she charged my card twice and she still wouldn't refund me the extra charge so I got charged a total of almost 200 for a day rental because my original reservation was for 2 days but I didn't even get the uhaul until a day laterRebekah M.

Update your systems! We were broke down,delayed for hours at a time for overheating problems. Every time a phone call was made you are transferd a dozen times to different departments/state and having to start over. We were told numerous times , that we could not be helped unless we were broke down. When we finally broke down,we were told that the town we were going to didn't have a uhaul facility, as we pulled up to the to tow yard there was a uhaul facility across the street. The constant phone calls and emails every day about the equipment being late even though we were constant contact with uhaul the whole time. A few hours after the return of the equipment at are final destination. I recieved a phone about the late equipment.lester R.

You guys gave me a uhaul without winter tires and expectected me to be fine through Canada. You guys gave me a car dolly that can't back up, like what? You guys gave me a uhaul that can't break 60mph, while people with the exact same equipment in the same size uhaul are passing me. You guys gave me a vehicle that you can't even tap the gas pump without the best mpg gauge going crazy, and I lose like a half my tank in 30 minutes. Make sure your booking is correct and the truck requested is available on the reserved date. Fix your online reservation site to reduce unnecessary stress to the person who books a date and truck size. When the reservation is confirmed for a date and truck, that should be ready for the person upon arrival. I was told by your representarive that the truck was late, the booking website doesn't work right and she could not control when a previous booked truck will be returned. All in answer as to why my reservation was being delayed nearly two full days. Your timing of availability and customer service needs improvement. Our original rental location, where we had a reservation over a month in advance, was College Road in Fairbanks. When we arrived to pick up our truck, there was no truck available. We were closing on our house within days and had to be out. Not only were the employees and the manager Karen completely unsympathetic, they were zero help in correcting the situation. The call center was also completely unhelpful and rude, and i was told "if there is no truck, there is no truck, what do you want me to do?".We managed to track down a smaller truck with the help of a regional employee out of Anchorage whom we found ourselves. Because the truck was smaller, many of our personal items had to be left behind. Given the choice, we will never utilize Uhaul again. Wonderful experience! Reasonable rate drew me to U-Haul; customer service will keep me as a customer. Aime spoke with me as if she'd known me for years. Because that particular location closes early on Sundays, she made returning the vehicle easy -- she went the extra mile to do it -- and insisted I park my car near the security cameras. I only hauled a couch today. But if ever I change dwellings or know someone who is, I'll direct that person to Aime at U-Haul. (Another employee also was helpful, inspecting the truck and noticing damage that I didn't see but could have been charged for. I regret that I've forgotten her name.) Whatever Aime and her co-worker are paid, it Hasidic or enough. Give them a bonus, at least, for guaranteeing my return business and for my recommendations to come.Kelli K.

When we called the office on college rd because it was closer to the house. We were quoted 39.95 the rep never stated additional fees would appy. When we got to the other location they had wrong vehicle. Then they gave us another price. When we returned the vehicle we were charged a othet price. We went from 39.95 to 64.00. Although we tried to make "heathet" understand that we didnt appreciate she had no sympathy or offered any custumer service. When we asked to speak to a manger she olny stated he was on vacation. The 3 ladies we spoke to ALL gave us different information. Had we have known of all fees associated we would have only rented it for one day. She told us it would ONLY be 39.95 for the 2 days. We were charged almost 25 dollars more and to too it off she said we had to return it to the one place that was further and we got charged for extra miles. This was the 3rd location I had to go to in order to rent a tow dolly. Kristopher at the College Road branch allegedly made a reservation for me at the dealership near Farewell without providing a confirmation number, but when I arrived there, Sarah didn't see a record of it. Fortunately Sarah was able to make a reservation for me while I was there at the North Steese branch. Kevin was able to pull up the reservation and assist me. He provided excellent customer service. I would still like to see a rewards program for rentals such as 10 rentals and get the 11th for free.JOE W.

The property may not look the most inviting, however the customer service more then exceeds any doubts this facility may create on a passing inspection. I felt as though my property would be safe, and that any assistance I needed would be attended to by the staff on hand, with the manager being a special star mention as he is quick to assist with anything from questions pertaining to equipment to the facility in great detail.Ashley H.
