Upon moving in there was two inches of ice in our unit. We spent an hour chipping out the ice. We put boards down and had Water as things melted, but otherwise nothing else happened after the snow and ice melted.

JAS S | First ImpressionsThis facility had a live on site (within the gated area) person and the gate was stuck shut 8 out of 10 times I tried accessing belongings in winter time. None of the employees at the main store seemed to be able to figure out how to get a key fob for this location to work after 4 attempts to do so. The owner of the branch seems concerned about collecting rent but not about correctly addressing or operations. Additionally trying to move out of the unit was almost impossible since you couldn't get in. I moved out of this unit almost a year ago now and recently got a notice to pay a bill for astorage I dont have with Uhaul. I paid a settlement fee and moved out long ago. Upon calling the main location a couple days ago I learned my account was still open as though I was still occupying space. Very unprofessional. Hopefully my account was closed properly this time so I can be done with this division of Uhaul.

STEPHEN S | Overall ExperienceI needed a place to store a trailer for a few months, so I paid for a spot at this location - a dirt lot with sinking wrecks on about 50% of the space. On my last visit to the location, the attendant tried to deny access to my property, saying the owner told him I had never paid?! Do not use U-Haul. Pay more and go elsewhere. I will never use them again.

LEVENTE J | Overall ExperienceThe ceiling looked in the process of falling in. I had to push a specific way on the sagging door to align the holes to unlock it. Took over 5 minutes once. The floor to my unit was about knee high so I had to keep climbing in and out to load/unload which added a lot of work. Driving was difficult with unlevel and unmaintained driving surfaces - difficult to pull out with a trailer. Would never recommend this facility.

Robert H | First ImpressionsPacked up all my stuff and went to the facility and the unit I was assigned still had a lock on it when I got there and the gate opener wasn’t programmed correctly so I couldn’t get out. Then couldn’t get ahold of anyone at the office after calling 3 times and had to call a corporate number and wait for them to open it remotely to let me out. The gate was wide open when I got there in the first place with no one even around so I just went right in(I’m assuming someone had just left). When setting up the unit the guy told me it’s a sketchy area and I should get my stuff insured. Then the lock I bought from them was defective. Second guy I talked to when I went back for the second and third time with issues was great and so nice. Tried to get me a unit at the main site and offered a free month but the same sized unit was $50 more a month at that location. I didn’t trust the company anymore by this point and cancelled my unit. Found a slightly cheaper storage unit a few miles away with a different company that was cleaner and better maintained and didn’t have any issues with them or the unit.

The unit had plywood doors, and the hasp was 3/4s up. You could pull the bottom open. It was not secure, at all at the Steese Location. The Staff at College Rd were excellent. It wasnt their fault. I got refund. I will store elsewhere this time

Shay P | First ImpressionsI had a very poor experience with my UHAUL storage unit rental. The storage unit facility gate was open and unlocked at least 75% of the time, and the facility was “unmanned” due to staffing. Then the building to where my unit was is unlocked and had no lightbulbs. I had to purchase lights and install them myself, I shouldn’t have to do that. The staff at the office seemed closer to illiterate than sane and it pisses me off. I was in their office and the man helping me could barely talk and fell asleep twice while trying to help me out. The facility was not clean or maintained. My unit flooded and turned to ice and ruined some of my belonging in the unit. Some of them I couldn’t even get out of the 6 inches of ice covering the entire unit floor. Those items are still there. The unit was not secure and anyone could have broken I’m with no tools or easy and steal the $5000-$6000 worth of items I had in there. The most expensive price of equipment in the unit was frozen in the ice and was damaged after i got it out of the ice. This looks bad for UHAUL. There were no security cameras in the area my unit was. Lastly, I moved out of my unit and still got charged rent and two delinquent fees after the man at the office said I wouldn’t be charged for my move out month. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with UHAUL. I will not be recommending their products or services anymore, rather I will be sharing that people should not use their devices at all here in Alaska. 0 out of 5 stars from me. I hope this reaches a higher management for review

Rents raised 3 times, leaks, holes in wall, doors blocked by snow.. the gate seldom worked, no manager, no way to contact anyone in Fairbanks about issues. Had to drive to town office to get help. I made many complaints no reply. Continuos management changes. First 2 yrs great then site office closed. the anchorage regional manager change things. Gate malfunctions constantly had gate open ALL HOURS.

Also I found some plyers that I did not leave inside my vehicle's hood and might have meant someone could have been tampering with my rig. I learned there was a lot of problems with it so I ended up selling it.
Treavor M | Overall ExperienceIt took me over four months to access the parking spot for my RV. When I first got a shot in the lot, it was staffed and someone could give me access to the area. Since then, the facility became unmanned. I attempted to call the college road facility, but my calls were consistently rerouted to a remote operator. I could never get anyone to return my calls or meet me at the facility to gain access. When I initially got the spot, there wasn't even space available to park my RV. The “lot” or dirt hill is full of abandoned and broke down vehicles and resembles a junkyard. The remainder of the facility is in various stares of disrepair. This was not a pleasant experience and I will not be recommending this facility to anyone.

Artashaya M | Online Move Inthe entire staff at the college location in fairbanks alaska deserve lunch dinner or a bonus. they work tirelessly, with genuine kindness despite putting up with a spectrum of problem solving issues, different customer personalities and still they maintain integrity patience understanding and friendliness. from my first phone call with wilson, to behind the counter with joseph and stephen stepping up when i felt threatened by another customer, joseph also seamlessly switched my locker unit rentals when i realized the original locker assigned to me was filthy stinky and dilapidated.

I would call the local number and end up waiting on hold for about 20 minutes before getting help. They messed up my auto pay three separate times. Do not recommend.
Portia C | Overall ExperienceWhen I moved into my Old Steese storage unit, I thought the place looked dumpy and susceptible to break-ins. It certainly did not feel secure. The electronic access gate was open, and based on the snow piled up on it looked like it had not operated in some time. I moved in Sunday and received a call on Tuesday that my unit had been broken into on Monday, after only one day. Luckily it was actually an adjacent unit that was broken into, but my suspicions regarding security were confirmed. If I had seen this location before being offered a month of free storage, I would not have stored my items there. After the break in, I moved my belongings as quickly as I could arrange vehicles and assistance. Staff was friendly and helpful at every stage of the process, but security is probably the most essential element of storage.

It’s impossible to get a hold of anyone on the phone as well, so I keep having to make time to go to the office to clear up the myriad issues there have been with my rental. Not recommended.

Jada S | Overall ExperienceThe storage facility is old and looks to be falling apart in many areas. I could not find my small storage space as it was inside of another larger one. The customer service employee failed to mention that information to me. The storage space had someone else’s dirty junk as well as food particles inside. Additionally, the walkway outside the storage space had trash someone had left behind. The walls/dividers between the 3x5x8 units is particle board and the locker next to the one I was assigned had clearly been broken into at some point. I was told that an employee stops by the location once a day to do a walk through and check for problems, but must not do a very thorough job. I didn’t even load my things into the compartment. I returned to the office at the College Road location and cancelled my reservation. I would definitely not recommend this location for your storage needs.

We went back to the main office and told them that those units were unacceptable and luckily a nice larger unit was just vacated so we could have that one. We tried to hire unloading help but none was available and I don't know about other locations but this one only had the harried manager and 1 other employee which did not have time to help us unload.
