We asked if we can drop the truck the next morning and they said yes. Nobody told us that we're going to lay for that day. Also, what I'd fuel tax? No one said anything about it. And we got charged for fuel even though we brought the tank exactly as we got it.jonathan V.
The support staff was very helpful in instructions on how to check in and rent using my cellphone. The process of going through thr procedure of taking a picture of your driver's license and cycling through the various screens that follow can be a bit daunting at first, but the staff helped me . The young lady that assisted me also instucted me as to how I could create an online account and reserve a rental in the future that would expedite the process. In fact I set up an online account following her instruction and reserved a van for the following day. I wiuld like to sdd that the staff servicing the vehicles upon return at the Park Slope location where I rented the van were very polite and helpful and I waited s few short minutes upon returning the vehicle. All in all it was a surprising pleasant and painless experience. I would highly recommend the Pack Slope location as a place to meet your rental needs based upon my experience today.Rinaldo P.

I do not fault the workers at this location, but rather U-Haul and their awful policies. First, I drove 15 miles, returned the vehicle with the same amount of gas as I found it, and was charged more than $77 for 15 gallons of gas! How is that even possible that this firm could encourage their employees to such despicable behavior. Could we say a mistake was made? If yes, then U-Haul should refund the entirety of the gasoline charge. If U-Haul does not do this, I will dispute the entire rental until done, as well as report you to the Better Business Bureau as a fraudulent company. On the equipment, the passenger mirror kept going out of kilter, so it made it difficult to drive far without stopping to get out and adjut. On the "self-serve" nature of your business model: I ordered a van for 1 p.m., and wasn't out of the location until 2 p.m. I was told to "go find your vehicle" in a lot with more than 50 vans. Seriously? The back was very hard to shut, and could have used, at the very least, some WD40. I know younger generations are used to being treated with total contempt by corporations, but I'm 62, have used U-Haul for more than 35 years, and have never, ever been treated so badly BY THE COMPANY. You have treated your staff with contempt through the self-serve model so you can pay them less, pushed the work on to your customers (we're not guests, else where's the free wine?), and will no doubt do nothing about this complaint other than blame your under-resourced, poorly paid staff. My Ubox was a week delayed, and it took me calling support and reaching multiple people to get any sort of explanation for the delay and when to now expect my things by. I felt like I had to be MEAN to people to get very basic info about the location of literally everything I own from them. The only helpful people I encountered were the employee(s) at the Staten Island location. Everyone else I spoke to was somehow debilitating unhelpful until I called multiple times a day, escalating my issue, which again, was just me asking very basic questions such as â€¦ â€œwhere are my things?â€ and â€œwhen will they arrive?â€ It would be VERY beneficial to provide customers with DETAILS on their delay once it is delayed. Seems like not much to ask to want to know â€¦uh, where your things are? and when to expect them? Do better. Literally horrible. I can't express enough how awful this process wasAlyssa C.

Ubox arrived to Denver two days late, which was not communicated to the third party moving service in a timely manner which led to some confusion. The uhaul of Denver was not very helpful or communicative once the box did arrive, and I encountered a rude customer service rep that kept speaking over me when I was trying to explain the situation over the phone. Implement policies as to who comes first on the waiting line, in order to prevent conflict between customers. Simple rules such as â€œIf a customer leaves the line, he or she looses her placeâ€ can avoid your company from future lawsuits if violence takes place and someone gets hurt on your property while conducting business. A lady left the line, went outside to her car, and then came back and stood ahead of everyone else. As I proceeded to bring this to the cashier, the lady got really angry and arrogant, and very aggressive. She called me all sorts of name including f***ing Homo and what not. I ask to speak with the manager, she came and said that she really can't do anything because the lady was on the line and she left to her car to make a phone call. I'm a business owner, and am very familiar with the rules of conduct especially when it comes to keeping my customers safe. Avoiding conflict between them is a priority. Again, we are responsible for their well being while they are on our premises.steve P.

Once again, I had elected to do a contactless pick up of the van I rented. The online interface said I didn't have location services turned on. I checked, and I did. Then it said I wasn't at the location. That was wrong. I was standing in the middle of the Uhaul parking lot. Then it said to scan the barcode on the front of the building. I did that, and THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. That meant I had to go into the store. The person who helped me really didn't understand how anything worked. Every new computer screen seemed surprising to her. She asked for help, but the others were helping other people. Most frustrating was that she moved unbelievably slowly and offered me nothing to compensate for how all this nonsense was eating into a pretty short reservation. She also asked if I would bring the van back at 2PM. I was confused because I reserved the van from 11 to 3. I think she just misread the screen, but, again, everything about this experienced seemed to confuse her. I understand when a new employee has trouble, but she didn't seem to be new. This on top of the Uhaul site malfunctions that caused me to go into the building in the first place meant that this whole experience was really bad.Shelley R.

First, the fact they won't let you park there when they have plenty of spots is ridiculous (especially considering I only needed a truck for 1-2 hours). It took me 20 minutes to find a spot and walk back. The women at the counter are the rudest, most unaccommodating, unfriendly people I've ever dealt with at UHaul and should be ashamed of their terrible attitudes (especially when I spent over $2k). The one with the name tag that says â€œownerâ€ was the worst, she's downright just a terrible person. She got all bent out of shape when I called my UBox a Cube. She should learn that it's actually pretty easy to be nice instead of just mean. The fact they wanted to charge me a $50 fee if I didn't pay cash was ridiculous. The truck was parked at the end of a line of trucks, so close together I could barely open the doors or walk between them. There was graffiti all over one side which wasn't noted, and the gas tank was not as full as what they had listed. They said my dolly was in the truck, it wasn't. The only good thing about this location is the guys who check you in when you return the truck, they're great (and we're the last time I returned here). Also, the bald guy driving the fork lift who loads the UBoxes was great. I'll go somewhere else next time, I don't need to spend $2k+ to be treated like dirt.James S.

The staff was very unorganized. They were not able to find keys to half of the vans in the parking lot. They gave us a key to a Van which was behind another van for which they did not have the key for. I had to go back in get a new contract , wait for them to find the key to another van they gave me. I have reserved the van online and filled in all the details so what should have been a 5 minute pickup became a 20 minute ordeal.ShreeKiran C.

Paulia Bernard was FANTASTIC and key to helping me with my reservation problem. My pickup location in Boston accidentally gave me the wrong trailer (a different number than was listed on my contract) so when I returned it to Park Slope, the reservation never closed. Paulia spent 90 minutes on the phone tracking down the correct trailer and making sure I wasn't charge. She went above and beyond. Thank you!!Caroline N.

The wit to pick up the van I reserved for 9am was far too long. They wanted to charge me over $17 for gas when I drove 6 miles and used less than 1/8 of a tank. I took it to a gas station and spent $10 to fill the tank to the proper level.Matthew M.

I reserved my vehicle days before the moving date. On the last day, They called me and said the vehicle is not available at the location and that I can pick up another vehicle from a different location a few hours later from my original rental time. The second location was almost an hour away from me and it was at traffic hour. When I went there to pick it up, the truck was nowhere to be found and when we found it, the keys were locked inside the truck. One of the employees had to break into the car using two screwdrivers and a metal rod! I tried to drop off the vehicle at the closer location as I reserved before but they told me I'm not allowed to. So I had to drive one hour back just for the drop-off. On top of this, the lady on the phone was not helpful at all and was barely listening to me, and the same for the employees at the location. I will be looking for other rental services in the future. This was truly unacceptable. I'll be calling Uhaul again for a refund.Selen O.
in a nutshell - absolutely everything. lost count of how many times I've rented trucks in New York, primarily from this location - which is always the worst. You have an app - which claims contactless collection and return, yet when collecting, the vehicle isn't ready, and the procedure isn't contactless. So when instructed to go inside to collect the keys, I 'skipped the line for key collection' and still had to wait 30 minutes for the keys. How on earth can you explain that? What is the point of having an app (and an account) if that is the outcome??? I ended up wasting more time trying to get your terrible app to work in the first place, then been told I'd have to go inside and deal with the understaffed and seemingly incompetent staff - who have mastered a complete lack of awareness or intention to resolve matters - judging by the reaction of all the other customers in there also waiting excessively for service. If this was an isolated experience I wouldn't bother with the feedback. but it is constant with you guys. your app never works as it claims - and your website isn't much better... probably the most clunky, redundant UX I've encountered - and in 2022 no less. Hire better people. Invest in customer experience - look at how every other vehicle hire platform operates - learn something from their success. Moving is already stressful enough, but you guys always seem to make it worse than it has to be. Your negligence in voluntary and your customers loath you for it.Julian M.

The fuel in my truck was empty and the tires needed air. They gave me a different truck. I didn't get a link to return it (truck share) and spent 30 minutes trying to, as it was after hours. Only complaint is that when I got to the storage unit it was up a flight of stairs. I went back down and changed it but it would’ve been good if they told me in the first place.Adam M. | Online Move In
Upon entering I wasn’t given proper instructions on how to access my unit nor retrieve my add on products (boxes and wrapping). Once I was given my unit number, someone else’s lock was on it. After going back into the showroom and waiting 10 minutes I was given a new unit. When I attempted to use the service elevator to go to the unit the access number was denied. I went back downstairs, waited another 10 minutes and was given a card with a replacement code that did work. Once my movers and I were done filling the unit we left the store to pick up another load. When we returned the access code that was put on the card was also denied and the showroom was closed. I was only able to make my final unload because another person let us on the service elevator. Once I got home I realized I was charged for the first month of rental when in my original online order I was offered the promotional 1st month free. Diamond was wonderful help when I was moving in and this review is not based on her service. It is instead based on the management situation. Firstly, there was an extremely long line and only 3 people working. This made wait times horribly long. Secondly, I reserved a large unit a month in advance, because I sold my 2200 sq ft house. I was unable to check in online and had to proceed to the front desk. When I got to the desk the unit was unavailable. And Diamond had to find me several alternative units to compensate for the one larger unit. This provided for a more stressful experience on an already stressful day. All the while, time is literally money as I am paying movers and they are waiting outside for all this to be resolved. By the time, I get to my units it cost me an extra $200 to the movers. I was told the locks would be available to me inside the unit. Once I got to the smaller unit, somebody had stolen the lock and left the empty package on the floor. I had to go back and luckily Diamond provided me with another lock. So, in conclusion Diamond saved the day! But, she shouldn’t have had to. If you hire great people, you should support them in getting the job done right by making sure reserved units are actually reserved and customers don’t wait an hour or more in line. I made a reservation over the phone for a 20x10x6 unit, which I paid for ahead of time. My reservation was lost. A staff member--one of only two I encountered who kind and tried to be helpful--supported me in reserving the only 20x10x6 unit still available. When my movers and I arrived at the unit, we realized it was much smaller than 20x10x6. I went back and she told me there were no units of that size available; the only one was reserved (I assume that was my unit!). She said I could rent a second unit, which was on a completely different floor and not climate controlled, so my movers told me what size to get and we completed the reservation. She said, "You're all set!" I was not all set. The key card I had didn't grant us access to the floor where the second unit was located. I went back again and she told me she needed to give me a second key card. I have no idea why she didn't do that in the first place. I'm currently arranging for my items to be picked up and moved to a private storage facility. I actually left my keys there for them in an envelope. One of the employees helped me and made a note in my account. She was the second person who was kind and at least attempting to be helpful. If I discover those keys have been "lost"... Most of the staff were rude, incompetent and completely unhelpful. I don't know if other locations are similar in this respect, but I would never recommend this facility and I certainly will never use it again.Nicole B. | First Impressions

The staff, and UHAUL, have to do a better job of making the experience of being a part of the UHAUL community worth it. Especially from the consumer stand point. The experience I have had at UHAUL of Park Slope has been uncomfortable. And at times, quite prickly, and indifferent. A team member gave my key card to one of my staffers without informing me. That is lazy and in direct communication. Which in sum is a lack of effort. Maybe the UHAUL team feels a little pushed to the side with a new person less system that keeps labor cost down. Most times in these situations team members can take more short cuts as a form of rebellion. Which is dangerous for any brand, or service based business. The whole experience was seamless. Thank you. One thing I forgot to mention when I was getting the paperwork settled is that I was told an alarm would go off after we untied the zip tie and opened the door to the unit we were transferring to. The facility is great. Clean, climate controlled, easy to navigate, wide aisles. The free use of dollies is a life (and back) saver. Once I figured out the check-in, elevator use process, it was smooth sailing. I don't recall being informed that I would receive instructions in an email. This is no reflection on your rep. Marybeth was great. Patient, thorough, professional. I just don't recall being informed about the instructions email. Had I known, I would not have experienced the frustration caused by the delay in completing my move due to not being able to use the elevators. I am grateful to the Park Slope location Manager, Amanda, who was gracious enough to answer my call for assistance with texted instructions. A+ Lastly, I did experience some problems with the card reader in the elevators. At times it would not recognize my information even though I had already checked in. In the final analysis, your products are great, convenient, and very much needed. Moving is so stressful, moving in a time crunch is a nightmare. Checking emails is not a priority during the moving process. Anything that can make the experience easier and less stressful, goes a long way.Edwin A. | Online Move In
