Location is poorly lit in the dark. No lighted signs, the pickup/drop off area is dark. The location is hard to find unless you are familiar with the area. There is some road construction in the area but that is no excuse in my opinion. The staff were very professional, helpful, and knowledgable. Additionally, the UHaul email system is compromised. Several emails from UHaul had links to spam sites with malicious content.

On Friday, September 5, 2025, I scheduled delivery of my mother’s U-Haul storage pod, which has been in storage for a year. It was supposed to arrive on Saturday, but it never showed. When I contacted customer service on Sunday, I was told I could not access the pod for at least three weeks due to construction at the warehouse. This was shocking news, as my mother’s pod contained essential items, including medical equipment she relies on. I then contacted the local U-Haul manager, who promised to look into it and call me back on Monday. That call never came. On Tuesday, after more time spent on the phone with customer service, another representative finally arranged for the pod to be moved into the parking lot so that I could access it. If the pod could be accessed and moved out of the warehouse into the parking lot, I do not understand why it could not have simply been delivered as originally scheduled. Instead, I was forced to rent a U-Haul moving truck at my own expense and move my mother’s belongings twice — first from the pod into the truck, and then from the truck into the house. When I arrived on Tuesday with the rental truck, I was confronted by an employee named Josh, who came out in the middle of the move and began yelling at me in a very aggressive manner. His tone was hostile, and he questioned me inappropriately about the medical equipment in the pod, dismissing it as “not medically necessary.” This was both insulting and completely unacceptable, especially given that my mother is 82 years old and cannot breathe without her CPAP machine. Instead of assisting, Josh continued to berate me about a missed phone call, turning an already stressful situation into an unnecessarily hostile one. His conduct was unprofessional, confrontational, and disrespectful. In summary: • My scheduled delivery was missed with no proactive communication. • I was given misleading information about access to the pod. • A promised follow-up call from the local manager never happened. • I had to spend multiple days and phone calls just to gain access to my mother’s belongings. • If the pod could be moved out of the warehouse into the parking lot, there was no reason it could not have been delivered, forcing me into unnecessary expense and duplicate labor. • I was subjected to yelling and harassment by an employee (Josh) during the move. This entire experience has left me questioning U-Haul’s reliability and customer service standards. I expect a formal acknowledgment of this complaint, a clear explanation for why the pod could not have been delivered, and consideration for compensation for the costs and stress incurred as a result of these failures.

When I put gas in the unit 8/16 AM, the gas line 'neck' (Leading to the tank?) was LEAKING gas to the ground at a fair rate. I even took pictures and showed the lady when I turned it in! After leaving the gas station, when driving the 'check engine' light came on advising to check the gas cap - which I did after pulling over on the side of the road. (The gas cap itself was NOT properly secured / attached to the vehicle and could very easily be lost or left behind at a gas station! Realize this was a one-way with specific drop off but even the lady at this site was very surprised I had to drive '30 miles' from LELAND to drop it there - where it did not seem there was an urgent need for it ! )

I put Chloe and Ariana through paces on my trailer needs, even returning a trailer I thought I'd no longer need only to return the next day and rent it again. Ariana was really accommodating, even helping me reserve a trailer at another U-Haul location which I wound up cancelling...then returning to the Porters Neck location to rent again because the rate was better than the other location. The help I got was always with a smile and genuine care. I'll recommend this location to anyone that will listen!

The bad - The parking lot is a disaster due to the road construction going on. The traffic getting in and out of the parking lot was very heavy and dangerous to pull out in. The great - the two young ladies running the place were exceptional at making the overall experience good for me. They didn’t let the conditions in the parking lot slow them down. The contract signing was fast and easy. Then off to hook up the trailer. Upon inspection of the first trailer, they discovered a potential safety problem and decided to go with a different trailer. Thank you ladies. They helped with the hook up and I was off. Without the customer service provided by these two young ladies, this could have been a very difficult situation to deal with. They made the difference.

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the amazing job your associate (younger brunette woman who met me at the uhaul truck when I pulled in.) she took my keys as I got out & thanked me for using uhaul with a smile. she asked if there was anything she could do or any questions I had. I asked what I needed to do to complete our transaction and she said we are all set and she would send me a confirmation receipt. I didn't need to do any paperwork and was able to hand her the keys and exit your facility. She had exceptional service with a wonderful personality. The service was outstanding, and the she went above and beyond to ensure that I had a great experience. I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need!

The equipment was clean. However, it had not been well maintained. I had rented the automobile trailer and the ratchets straps needs to be grease/ lube. Also the female work that was there during drop off had a piss poor attitude. She definitely needs more training on her costumer service skills.

My order was supposed to have a utility hand truck and a furniture dolly with the truck when I picked it up. This location didn't have either one available when I arrived. I had to purchase a hand truck at this location for $75.00. The pickup was scheduled at 7:30am and the movers were coming at 9am. This didn't leave me time to find a hand truck or furniture dolly. U-Haul needs to provide what they say or at least notify people days in advance to make arrangements for other rental options.

We were told delivery would be made on Wednesday 3/5 in the morning so we arranged to have helpers available at that time. We received a call on Wednesday that the driver was unable to deliver that day, but we would have our containers the following day before noon. They did not arrive until 2:30 in the afternoon. We were told that the containers would be picked up between 1 and 3 pm in the afternoon on 3/10. At 9:30 am my husband heard a beep and realized one of the containers had been taken and the other was in the process of being moved. Since we had not completed putting our things in them, we requested that the driver wait about 30 minutes to take the second container. My husband also went and made sure he had placed our lock on the container that she had already taken. We then had to rush about to strip the beds and bag up the bedding and other items that needed to be put into the box. This was very stressful and we were not happy about that at all. If we knew that they were coming early, we would have been prepared. If my husband had not heard the backup beep, our containers would have been removed without locks and without bedding and towels and other items that we still had in the condo, We had to leave some thing there because we just could not get them in the box she had not loaded on the truck. The driver was accomodating, and did not "rush" us. However it was not good. MaryJane LeKanides

My wife and I flew from Massachusetts to Wilmington, NC to help our daughter move. We went online to check if the store on Market Street had 10 foot trucks available and it was confirmed online there were 3 available. When we arrived at the store we were greeted by a very unpleasant and soft-spoken young women. We had a brief belabored conversation and my wife said, "there are 3 10 foot trucks listed online". The saleswomen said, 'Oh there it is". She never told us that the store didn't have any 10' trucks, and that we would have to rent a larger 16' truck. When we went out to start the truck we realized she charged us for the larger truck, because we didn't have time to look at other locations and we would have had to pay for an UBER to go to any other location we didn't have a better option. I wish we had been offered the larger truck at the smaller rate, because the store falsely informed us of its truck inventory, and the saleswomen was not very clear what we were renting. We had to drive one way from NC to MA and when we returned the truck in MA, I was surprised to know that we had a mileage limit. The young women never explained if we went over mileage that we would be charged. I would say the young women that helped us needs some more training. She needs to know that treating her customers the way she would want to be treated will add value to her as an employee and add value to your store. Speaking from past experience with U-Haul Chicopee, MA, the employees are so pleasant, and I welcome using their location. We should have read more reviews about this particular U-Haul store and read the rating, I'll know next time the reviews will make my experience more pleasant.

I rented a truck to pickup a fridge I purchased (it was second hand, so I had to pick it up myself). I reserved an appliance dolly along with the truck rental because I didn't have help moving this. When I picked up the truck, there was no dolly. I asked the girl inside and she said they have none because "they can't keep track of them" - I'm not sure why I was able to reserve a dolly online if it's not a tracked inventory item. Because of this, I wasn't able to move the fridge as planned and returned the truck without accomplishing my goal. The $60 was completely wasted. I'm out money and still have no fridge.

This place is horrible first we’re u lock it it’s held by one screw second they lie and treat u like nothing my gate did not work for 7 months strait and I complained and all they would say is we will take care of it and never did then to top it off even after all the negative crap they come and tell me that all of my stuff had to be out by the 17 of June with no care in the world as far as we’re my stuff would go now that they surprise u with a kick out and the excuse is we are destroying the storage units just a horrible experience I would never use uhaul again in my life

Maybe I would recommend it. We had rain water get into the unit, which I reported. They said they would check it out. It appeared to come from under the wall of a neighboring unit. Later when we over a month later when we came to get our things again there was standing water. There was evidence that water had been there for a while. Black mold was evident up more than 2 two inches up any wooden pieces. Granted it was isolated to the back five 5 feet of the unit. We reported it and were told that we have take pictures and file a damage claim. Which do plan on filing. I thought that one of them would have come and looked at the water to see for themselves how it got in or where it came from in the first place.

I took the storage unit because it was a U-Haul facility, and it offered the first month free. When I got there to unload my things it was unavailable so I did not get the month free and was in a time crunch and had to return the truck so I just basically had to except the storage unit.
