Perhaps have your customer service person not rush the client after just literally parked the vehicle and she was asking for the keys and to clean up. We had at least 15 minutes to clean up and inspect and she literally was rushing us! We paid for the 24 hours. The first time we came in the same rep mafmde us wait 30 minutes to get all our stuff ready on our expense again! We be going to another location as if I get her again i will not be as patient. Would I recommend this location, hell ko!

The woman at the office wouldn’t allow me to leave the key with her and insisted I stand in line behind five people just to put the key on her desk, so I ended up dropping it into the key box.

The biggest annoyance I had with the whole experience was that I needed to do the walkthrough and take pictures using an app, both before and after using it. You have to either download an app or use the mobile website and upload all the pictures that they request. The employee at the franchise only has to hand you the keys and tell you where it is parked. I'm not great with using technology, and I don't like that I had to download an app into my phone so I could continue with my already stressful move. It was very irritating. Other times I have used u-haul, an employee did a walkthrough of the vehicle with me, and we signed a paper that shows we both agree the truck is in good condition, which is verified upon the trucks return. The employee should also answer any questions about operating the vehicle, for those who are unfamiliar with driving these things.
I picked up my truck at night, so it was difficult to see at first, but the cargo area was full of water and dirt, which I discovered part way through loading my family's belongings into it! Our boxes got wet, making moving them back out difficult, and lots of dirt was tracked into our new home because of this. Thankfully I bought a mattress bag to protect the mattress, otherwise it would have been soaked.
When I returned the truck, I was again prompted to use an app, using a clunky interface. It took some time to even get to the check-in part of the app. When I scanned the barcode, it just took me to the front page of the u-haul website. If you're going to have a barcode, at least make it send the customer to the part of the website they need to check the vehicle in. One thing that really bothered me was, during the check in procedure, I was asked if there is anything I think needed to be fixed on the vehicle before the next family rents it. To me, this calls into question whether the vehicle is actually safe or not, it does not inspire confidence! These vehicles NEED to be maintained by a professional. There should be no question to the customer that repairs might be needed, and the customer should certainly not be asked if they think something needs to be repaired. What does an average customer know? As it is, the truck I used ran terribly. The engine surged and the transmission wouldn't shift properly. It was fine for my move, since it was very short distance within town, but I would not have accepted this for anything more than a short distance move. These trucks should be in top mechanical condition, checked regularly by a professional mechanic, including test drives, so that there is no question whether or not something needs to be fixed, and the customer doesn't have to wonder if the truck is safe to drive. It is stressful enough for most people to drive a vehicle this size without wondering whether the brakes will work when they need them, or if there is some other potential safety concern. Don't even ask if the customer thinks something needs to be fixed, that should never even need to be considered by a customer, and most certainly there should never be anything that needs to be fixed before a customer rents it!
Ultimately, I think the best way to improve customer service is to bring back the person to person interaction between your company and the customer. Do a walkthrough in person, don't rely on some app! Hire someone to clean the trucks after every use, don't rely on your customers to do it, they have enough crap to deal with when moving house already, without having to worry about cleaning up a truck too. A minimum wage employee could mop out the cargo area after every rental, at the very least, to make sure it is actually clean for the next person. These are common sense solutions really, and require a minimal investment to boost customer satisfaction. Honestly, I cannot recommend u-haul to anyone. There was a time years ago when I would. It was a much simpler process, and there was real customer service, but it appears those times have gone. On the other hand, for those on a budget, what other choice do we have?

I reserved two appliance dollies over a week in advance for today’s pickup, expecting them to be ready as guaranteed. There was no prior notice—no email, no call, nothing. Just to be safe, I checked the truck bed before driving off, and it was completely empty. I went back into the office to ask, and only then was I told the dollies weren’t available.
How am I supposed to move my appliances without them? This makes zero sense. To make matters worse, the next customer after me walked out with two smaller dollies—the exact type I needed. When I pointed this out, the staff’s only response was: “We have one furniture dolly with four wheels—want that instead?”
If I had been notified even a day earlier, I could have made alternative arrangements. This lack of communication and inventory control completely ruined my moving plan and wasted hours of my time. U-Haul’s “Reservation Guarantee” is clearly meaningless. I will not be using this service again.

There was a greasy spot which made my matress cover dirty.
I booked two types of dollies, I assumed they are inside of truck. After getting home I found out there was no dally inside. I had to go back to the center but they said booking is not guaranteed for dollies. At last they gave me one dolly. I am not sure what’s the point of online reservation if I can’t receive what I want.

You can offer larger trucks at more locations. We found this frustrating that we could only get a truck larger than 20” in either Vancouver or Langley and we live in Whiterock. Also, it would have been nice to be able to drop off the truck at the South Surrey location instead of having to drive back to Richmond. Don’t know why you don’t offer that option

When I first picked up the vehicle, the mileage on the truck was 10 miles higher than what was recorded on my contract. In addition, the fuel level in the truck was lower than what was marked. I immediately went inside to the front counter, and the staff had to fix the issue and re-issue a new contract.
On top of that, the vehicle I was given had a fault in the driver’s side front tire, which caused noticeable shaking while driving. I quickly returned to U-Haul and reported the problem. I was then offered another truck, which I appreciated, but I felt this was a major safety hazard and should not have happened in the first place.

Brianne Brianne and her team at the Shell location in Richmond are amazing clean well organized and above all friendly thanks to her and the movers Sam and his partner Gurt ,,forgive my spelling ,,,we were able to load our truck with ease I highly recommend using the movers because there’s a lot to do and loading the truck is the easy part when you have a good help and I would give them six stars after our experience The packing blankets are a must if you have wood furniture we took an extra six and use them all 12 in total for a 15 footer the box is actually 12 and then the over cab makes the rest of the foot of the 15 feet where we put the rugs in a few small items get packing tape the cling wrap for all the edges of your couches and what not and one of the others was the blue IKEA bags for all the loose things and easy to carry on stairs oh one last thing bring a dash cam Icbc it’s not easy to deal with and people like to cut off minivans and moving vans in their Teslas and brake check you and flip you off as they speed through a red light thank you U-Haul thank you Brianna

Unfortunately for us we didn’t check the tires till we brought the U-Haul home. One of the tires was very bald. So we went back to U-Haul. It took awhile to figure out through pictures and emails back and forth. But eventually they got the third party tire person and he was dispatched to our home which was fabulous! So back we went home and he came within the hour. And said thank goodness you saw this cause the tire would have blown on the highway to Calgary!!! He was very fast and efficient and friendly. So happy he made us safe and we got to Calgary the next next day with no problems!

Zero complaints about the entire experience except (as usual) the app. I picked up my van off business hours and had the same issues I always have with the app. It's glitchy, it hangs up, it fails to convert miles to kilometers even when is asks for the answer in kilometers but only accepts answers in miles. It feels like 2007.
The gentleman running the Richmond location this morning was the salvation though, he was efficient and friendly and didn't glitch once.

My unit was broken into once a few years ago, and the boxes and stuff were piled around, which was a bit messy. I couldn't go deep into the unit to check things in detail. After that, the U-haul lock was replaced. However, when I opened the storage locker recently -- while the lock was intact -- several items including two solid wood cupboards disappeared without a trace. I must say "What the heck!" It doesn't matter because the reason I opened the locker was to plan a removal of everything and end my clientship. The rental fee increase twice a year and it has become unaffordable. I am glad I moved out, ending an era of money waste.

Love how easy it is to get one, move in and move out. The web system makes everything so easy. Great location as there is lots of space to drive in, park your car by the storage entrance. Also so convenient to have the Carta available.

This location has a serious rodent infestation that is not being effectively addressed. The first time I entered my unit and found the floor and my personal items covered in feces, I asked the office staff what next steps were. They assured me that someone would access my unit and clean up the mess, lay traps and ensure the issue was resolved. I went back to the unit two weeks later and nothing had been done. Another time they handed my peppermint sachets telling me that they were a rodent deterrent. I put them in the unit and the next time I entered the unit the sachets has been chewed open with their contents spread across the floor. This is totally unacceptable for the amount of money these units cost per month. Additionally I had been told that the buildings were climate controlled. I did not find that to be the case at all, the units get hot in the summer and are freezing cold in the winter. An overall disappointing experience.

The service is extremely poor. I spelled out my address several times and uhaul sent me an email with the wrong spelling. Not very professional job. I reserved to pick up in surrey but when I got to the surrey location the uhaul guy said there wasn't any reservations. I had to call to the other uhaul place to get a truck. I wanted a big truck but the guy insisted me of getting the smallest truck. The U-Haul guy made the reservation for pick up in Richmond and return to Richmond. I told him I wanted to pick up in surrey and return in Richmond. The U-Haul guy keeps making mistakes. This is very unprofessional and there's no apologies whatsoever. The surrey U-Haul guy called me a few times and he told me someone made a mistake. Anyways I will never come back to uhaul after I move all the furnitures from your storage.

I was bumped out of my original reservation for a space (the last one that was left) (5 x 5 x 10). I was able to persuade the staff to solve this problem for me. They offered me a bigger space, with one month free, and to let me know when the originally reserved space is free again. I expect staff to take care of transferring the items to the smaller space, once it become available. To me, this is only fair, after I spent hours on Saturday ensuring that this space was reserved, since it was the last one available. The staff were very helpful in finding a good solution, which I really appreciate.

Last week, I found that the storage's door was crashed and the locked was damaged. I couldn't open the door. No one reported this to me. And, I found a lot of mice dropping on the floor too.
