I want to report the way I was treated during my recent visit to your U-Haul location (9521 51 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4W8) The employee, Manas, was extremely rude and disrespectful throughout the interaction. He tried to charge me a $50 cleaning fee, but another employee later looked at the truck and said she didn’t want to be that harsh, so she only charged me $5 instead. That alone shows the original charge wasn’t being handled consistently. What really upset me was his attitude. He spoke to me in an unprofessional way and even said he didn’t care if I filed a complaint. No customer should be treated like that. I appreciate the other employee for handling the situation calmly and professionally, but my experience with Manas was completely unacceptable. I’m asking U-Haul to look into this incident and review any security footage if available. I hope appropriate action is taken so other customers don’t have to go through the same experience. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing back.

Ensure mileage given for the rental is correct. I had been given inadequate number of miles for the destination, then the drop off location was substantially farther away and then I also incurred more costs to drop it off further away

I picked up the 26’ Truck on July 20th. My adult son was going to drive the truck as he was experiencing this occasionally on his job. I paid the 49.95 cash and additional 50.00 for mileage. I had also requested a dolly, this I would pay in cash. At $7.00 an hour the expectation was 70.00 for the rent. I had the additional cash to pay for the dolly we would rent. I had just gotten a new debit/Visa card and when I scanned the interaction, it declined. After many failures I said I was leaving and we would pay outstanding balance. I am upset about ONLY able to pay 100.00 cash. I was told this was policy at u-Haul. This is NOT TRUE! On the 19th of Jun my close friend had gone to the U-Haul to book 4 days of the 3 Ton truck at the Stony Plain Rd/Off the Highway towards Spruce Grove. He paid close to 500.00 in cash for this rental with no problems at all. This refusal to pay the 70.00 in cash felt like I was being screened as a crook. I knew that my inability to meet tolerable Debit usage would be my sole responsibility. We tried ok the truck, drove and the next step was as it was raining we would use the fork and flatbread dolly and didn’t touch the dolly which was licked with the plastic tab. No matter what transpired, the No Cash Policy for over 100.00 was frozen by a U-Haul. Extremely frustrated with this covert behaviour.

If possible I would simply recommend hiring a few more staff for your front counter area. The process of renting the truck was great. But the staff seemed rushed. And some technical issues with one of the pos machines seemed to complicate everything further.

When I called this location on the phone I was on hold for just under 20 minutes before I got through. Otherwise, when I arrived at the location the service was excellent by the General Manager Eric Gordy. Friendly, professional, and quick.

I went in to move into my storage container that I reserved online. It took 45 minutes because the person at the counter couldn't figure out how to give me the 1 month free storage that I qualified for since I had booked a one way trailer. He kept telling me that the trailer was round trip even though I had booked it to be picked up in one postal code area and drop it off in another postal code area. He said round trip meant anything within the city regardless of location. Thats not what round trip means. Then when I finally was able to get my container, he didn't provide the insurance I had booked. I asked about it and he said Uhaul doesn't offer insurance and asked if I was looking at U-Store-It. I said no, because my reservation is here. Now this morning an hour before I'm supposed to pick up my trailer rental for the day, they switched the pickup location to clear across the city an hour before pickup time and then cancelled it completely. I am BEYOND upset about this. I've used uhaul multiple times from this location and it's always been good but the last 2 days has been awful. They don't even know how to do their own promotions or know what is offered on their website. Pitiful. I will not be using uhaul again. ever.

That would be great if the tank with full gas. It is very hard for customer to fill gas to the level indicated on the meter. If customer fill gas less than gas level when check out, UHaul will charge customer, if customer fill too much gas when customer return, UHaul will not refund to customer. This takes too much of customers time to figure out how much gas need to fill in the tank.

It would be good if equipment was checked for defects prior to renting out. We went to three different U-hauls trying to find a tow dolly that didn't have a burnt out left hand signal. It was the U haul at 9521 51 Ave for the win !! We tested two trailers that had burnt out left hand signal lights. Eric was able to pinpoint the problem quickly and change out the light for us on the spot. Without his expertise I'm not sure if we would have had a tow dolly to haul our car from Edmonton to Grande Prairie.

Windshield was so filthy inside that it distorted my vision and ability to see the road clearly. I had to clean it myself to enable safe driving. I didn't clean the passenger side, so the agent could see how bad it was. Your lack of concern for safety bothers me. The only reason I would recommend this location is the availability of units.

I found it unprofessional watching a rep taking tucks back last night smoking while he was interacting with customers who had no choice but to stand there and take it if they wanted to get out of there. Long blond hair 6pm at 51st ave. Can’t imagine u haul would support that? Was not a good look. Some people are allergic to smoke and we aren’t in the 70’s.

The early morning staff was excellent, friendly and efficient. It was the best experience yet when renting from uhaul. I was sorry to hear uhaul is phasing out the pickup trucks in the edmonton zone as that has been my preferred vehicle to rent. Thank you for providing rental opportunities.

I picked up trailer…no one around…I checked trailer number, hooked it up and tested lights. Still no one around. When inside and asked a nice gentleman to take picture of hook up and he was surprised I had it done. Get to destination and loaded vehicle and find out tire straps are seized and bound up. I know how to secure a load with out them. Drove 2.5 hrs back home. Drop trailer off and as A GM tech of 30 years and a U Haul repair tech, I told them to ground that trailer till straps are fixed. One other thing I’ll say, my 2006 Envoy Denali that you keep saying I can’t pull that load of what I’m hauling…I’ve loaded Terrains and Equinox’s and hauled many out of BC through mountains. My Envoy is not stock and gets better gas mileage than any truck. The engine, transmission and rear suspension is not stock. Tires are Lt 10 ply. Look back on your records of how many times I use these trailers and 90% of time I pull with Envoy. I appreciate doing business with you and look forward to doing a lot more. Thanks

Booked one location, but they changed it to a neighborhood location. The store I was sent to wasn't even open. Got that sorted and was sent back to the original location I tried to book where they had a dozen of the trucks I wanted sitting there, so no idea why I was rerouted. They have me a truck with the wrong mileage and gas on it, and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Finally got the manager to fix it. Meanwhile, with all the delays, I'm stuck paying for movers who are now waiting for, who I also booked through uhaul. In annoyance at all the delays I mentioned uhaul seemed to be slipping, and the kid "helping" me replied that Walmart had crappy service too. Real nice operation/experience.

The Uhaul was booked, 2 movers and a dozen blankets. For Saturday, May 30th at 1pm. Then emailed me to say it won’t be available until 5pm. And 4 hours were needed. When the Uhaul was to be picked up, they said there’s no trucks available. Yet, I have the confirmation. Then they did NOT bring a single blanket. Numerous items of mine are so damaged, broken, missing. I found two of my real diamond earrings outside. Not matching. I have yet to find out how much more jewelry I’m missing, since the entire box was dropped and everything fell out. I have a white and grey chair with two footprints on it. My neighbour confirmed to me that she saw a mover using his feet to push it into the Uhaul. This is most likely why. So much of my furniture is completely wrecked. The box that dropped, had a glass in it, that was busted on the cement. I found the pieces outside that were thrown against the wall at the back door. I also had a passed down 4 generation porcelain jewelry piece. That was all broken as well. My glass coffee table, has scratches all over the top. (If they brought the 12 blankets, this wouldn’t have happened). My couch got damaged from the two movers who pushed it through a doorway, instead of tilting the couch or even try. This caused a lot of damage around the door frames at the place I was moving from. And I was charged for that and it was taken off my damage deposit. I can’t get over this. It’s unreal and maddening. With all the damaged furniture, broken items, this is NOT okay. I have to replace so much, because of all the damage. Which is definitely going to cost me a lot of money. I could go on and on. When the truck was to be returned at 9pm, it was closed and there was no drop off for the keys. It was 8:40pm, the truck was left at the location on Saturday, May 30th. Sunday I received a call at 8:15am asking for the keys. Yet the sign says they open at 9am. The driver dropped the keys off at 9am Sunday, May 31st. The overall experience with UHaul was awful. I will never use this company again or my friends and family. Nothing was reimbursed for the 12 blankets that were not brought. After the move, I was supposed to give the drivers a code, to my satisfaction. I did not give them a code and I supposed I was talking to the manager (that’s what he said he was). If this is not dealt with, and all the furniture/items that were broken are not reimbursed, I will be contacting the media and other resources. Just completely AWFUL.

The location itself was perfectly fine. The real issue was the fact that the truck I had paid for, reserved, and received multiple confirmation emails and text messages for was nowhere to be found when I arrived. Apparently, U-Haul decided that the pickup location would be moved to a location an hour and a half outside the city I had booked in. Oddly enough, this information never made it to me despite the steady stream of reservation confirmations I continued to receive telling me everything was on track. When I called customer service, I was informed that a representative had called me “once at 8:00 AM” two days before pickup and left a voicemail. Unfortunately, neither the phone call nor the voicemail ever appeared on my phone. It’s reassuring to know that a major change to a paid reservation can apparently hinge on a single unanswered call that may or may not have actually gone through. What I find most impressive is that U-Haul was able to send multiple emails and text messages confirming my reservation, yet somehow couldn’t manage to communicate that the truck had been relocated 90 minutes away. That seems like a detail customers might reasonably want to know before showing up at the location they were repeatedly told to attend. The location gets credit for being fine. The reservation system, communication process, and customer experience, however, felt like a very expensive scavenger hunt.

Its busy amd VERY slow. Too many trucks trailers amd its hard to access the locker with parked trailers in the way that take a while to move. The door is hard to move io amd down and so much trouble with the dusty getting in the lock

Had my items stored for 18 months. Even with the U-Haul provided lock my storage unit was still broken into and items stolen. I spoke to the office staff after the first incident and they assured me nobody could access the unit but the fact is my unit was accessed. The doors need better weatherproofing to protect items from dust and debris. Otherwise the experience was satisfactory.

When we got this unit it was supposed to be heated in temp controlled at the time. There were things that were broken so they had a heater fan in there and also the code on the door didn't work. The door was broken and so if we needed to have access we had to wait until the place was open and there was staff available. Then the rates kept changing more and more often yet with little improvement to the facility and then upon move out, someone had blocked the entrance to our unit with the U-Haul truck and nobody had access to the keys so that we could move the vehicle so that we could move our things out with ease. We couldn't even put the vehicle into neutral and push it out of the way as we tried with the manager and other staff so then we had to maneuver around this truck that was parked maybe 23 feet away from the door blocking the entire door. We moved out 12 days early Considering all of the issues that have occurred. You would think that one would be offering to compensate us for all of these headaches, but no, you guys don't operate like that. You're more interrupting customers off first of all U-Haul needs to have a Canadian outlet because you falsely mislead customers with your 19.95 a day and then next thing you know it's 150- $300 later. Your system is in miles yet we are in Canada. We do not go by miles and therefore it tricks customers you guys are not clear and concise about charges and then the amount changed when you go to pay out when you rent a vehicle from here I paid up the full amount. Next thing you know I got another bill for $75. I tried to dispute it. That bill went from $75 to 150 then you guys send me to collections for $44, which is not even an amount that was old like this company is shady as shady can be.

We looked at the hours online and it said the office was open until 7pm, as we were scheduled to arrive around 6:40pm, we called ahead to ensure our unloading that evening would be possible. We spoke to someone from U-haul on the phone (we called the number listed for this location) who assured us that although the office closed at 7pm, as long as we had our paper work done by 7, we would have access to unload until 10pm. Unfortunately on our arrival we were advised this was not the case, as apparently a door was broken, making unloading after the office was closed impossible. We were told this was well posted, but did not see any signage and clearly this was not communicated to the U-Haul representatives answering the phone. After explaining our situation multiple times, they did finally allow us to unload and we are grateful that one of the employees was willing to stay 30 minutes late to facilitate this. However, as we went to unload, there were multiple trailers in front of the door we needed to access to unload and then the lights in the building we were unloading into were turned off mid way through our time, both of these making our unloading experience that much more difficult.

Had my storage locker broken into and my items stolen out of my locker. My entire locker was gone through and destroyed and even though there’s a camera pointing directly at my locker “there was no footage” absolutely ridiculous place to think your items are safe when they certainly aren’t.

Client service was excellent, but I had to wait quite a while in lines to get it. Customer reps did their very best to make our storage with U-Haul a positive experience. We were very happy with our staff interactions. Storage unit door was a bit banged up and the weather stripping on the side of the doors would buckle and come out when trying to close the unit. Water (likely from big storms) leaked through the roof of the unit and damaged some boxes.

We moved our son out to Alberta at the end of July. The staff at this U-Haul really went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. It was the August long weekend when we moved and the store was absolutely swamped. They all did they're best to make sure everyone was helped in a timely and courteous manner. The storage units are extremely poorly built. There are nails and screws poking out through the wood everywhere. It is an unsafe environment. My father cut himself on a screw when we were unloading. And the access door to the building with the units was blocked by trailers, forcing us to unload our truck a significant distance away.

This was the worst uhaul experience ever! I booked a truck and storage 32 days in advance for my move from Winnipeg to Edmonton. 2 days before I'm supposed to pick up my truck I get a call that the location changed. It was 400 meters from where I work and that is the way I wanted it, they moved it 6km away, not a huge deal , until they called me the day before I'm picking up the truck and moved it to Winnipeg beach, 80km away! 160km round trip !! They did discount the truck but to me that did not matter, I had to scramble like crazy to get this done and I'm moving 1300km. Did not need that stress but I got it done. So now when I get to Edmonton where my locker was booked more then a month in advance, they don't have my locker. They gave me a smaller one and said I have to be out in 3 weeks because someone has it booked.. where was mine ? Now this is where it gets really good. Could not fit all my stuff in there , had a $400 bookcase stolen . Found that out when I went to load with my movers . Now my storage is blocked by one of thier trailers, the woman working said I should have phoned first before moving my stuff !! It's my stuff way should I have to give notice? She was rude , running around like she had no idea what she was doing. She cost me an extra hour of move time because they had to walk my stuff an extra 40 feet because she couldn't move the trailer for me . Rudest person I've ever delt with anywhere. She cost me $180 because of her disorganization. Just so rude and ignorant. She doesn't deserve that position, I'd be fired if I did my job the way she did. Walking around hollering at people. Worst experience ever and I've done this move 5 times now. This one I will never forget. Do not ever go to uhaul, South side Edmonton, 51 ave . Be warned now .

Each time a longgatted process Paying only a few months in advance rhrough the till seemed ridiculous Cash payment was also trouble. Preferred plastic because no cash till. Maybe an offer for checking out early on a paid would be a courtesy This form should have a comment area under each question .... was the faculty clean. Not so much - run down is more like it. Clean ish. What do you mean by clean? The staff was super good. Great people.
