Extremely impressed with the professional, courteous and knowledgable staff at U-Haul of Springfield, VA (946025). Despite conducting an equipment pre-inspection earlier in the week, at the time of pickup, my trailer lights were not functioning properly. Staff immediately proceeded to troubleshoot and quickly resolved the issue by repairing a loose wiring harness connection at the car battery. Greatly appreciate their assistance.John A.

1. Had evidence of mice. Droppings and what looked like they/it was chewing stuff to make a nest. 2. I lost my key and had my lock cut off. They didn't have any disk locks left, so they gave another lock. I came to my unit which is about 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic and my unit was double locked. I was pretty angry about that. I called the next day and explained this to a female employee who said they would remove the lock so that I could remove my items and move to another facility with better customer service. I told her I would be there that evening and she said she would have the other lock removed so I could take my stuff. She did not apologize for the staff being to lazy to call or email me advising i would need to stop by during business hours to switch out locks. I arrived after my 30-40 minute drive to find it was still locked. I contacted again the next day asking to speak with a manager, was told there was no manager to speak with and that they would remove the lock, employee did not apologize for my wasted trip. I didn't trust the staff to remove it so I waited until weekend to ensure someone would be there if they had not removed the lock. When I arrived it had been removed. Imagine going online and reserving an extra large unit to store a household of items in and then when you arrive, you are told that units of that size hadn’t been available in more than a year. While the employee offered to “set me up” with two 10x10 units not next to each other and one on the 2nd level, this was not what had been reserved and as it turns out, one of the units assigned was a “ghost unit” that wasn’t really there but showed up in the system. After searching for the unit and going back to the office where there was now a line of 15 people waiting, I got to enjoy that fun. A different employee then corrected the ghost unit issue so now I had to put my items into two separated units vice the one large unit that I had ‘reserved” a month earlier. Clearer signage would help when dropping off. Also when dropping off, I waited in line for about 20 minutes behind customers picking up, then when I got to the counter the agent asked if I wanted a printed receipt or an email. I wanted email, so there was nothing to do at the counter. It would help clear the line to announce that returns don't need to wait in line if they're ok with only the email receipt.Timothy R.

Nice location. Clean. Pleasant customer service. But not the location 1.6 miles away from my home I reserved. My pickup location was moved to the Port Royal location a day before my reservation to a location 12 miles from my home. I thought my head was going to explode- what the the hell. It added 22+ miles round trip from my house and put me in a busy stretch of road (I-495 on the Dc area beltway). None to happy about that. Why doesn't Uhaul move trucks for customers. I would pay $50 to guarantee my location. That could help pay for the logistic cost of Uhaul to move the vehicle. Not very customer friendly of Uhaul to move your pickup location. And more frustrating to drive by your preferred location and see 20+ trucks sitting out front. Uhaul needs to look at how they treat one-way reservations. Most of us would pay more for a guaranteed pickup location. Also train your scheduling people with an adequate response as to why a reservation was moved and why Uhaul can't move the vehicle to the location of choice. I did not get a response that made any sense. Though I imagine it is the logistic cost for the move. Make it an option to guarantee the location or increase the one way reservations fleet. ?Diane C.

I rented a truck. The uhaul employee who set up my reservation and gave me the truck screwed up all my information and nobody was able to find my reservation. He couldn’t find the uhaul storage facility I was returning the truck to, which was where my storage units were located and already verified I could return the truck there. He was supposed to set up an open ended reservation, but ended up assigning a returning uhaul facility, 1 hour away from my location. He didn’t explain anything about the truck and when I went to pick it up, the hood was up and he handed me the key and was walking away. I had to ask him to put the hood down and ask to do a walk around to see any damages the truck already had. The manager couldn't find the dolly I ordered, and instead of offering me a replacement, he wanted to just take it off my order so it made moving my stuff so much harder. 1. You changed the rental truck type on me and did not inform me until i arrived at the rental location. I requested a box truck and was given a van. 2. You changed the pick up time on me and did not let me know in advance. It was supposed to be 9 am and it was changed to 930 am. I arrived at 850 am and had to wait 40 minutes to get my rental.Gary M.
The hitch is great and the customer service from the staff was first-rate. One suggestion though. The technician could have saved me a week, several hundred dollars and a return visit if he had a thread chaser kit on hand to clear some rust from the necessary bolt holes. Just a thought. Did a self return the equipment in after store hours. The returning process was awful. The system asked me for pending charges of $30. I was confused so I didn't pay, spent over 40mins waiting in customers service call on the drop off spot. Also spent another 30mins waiting in call when driving back. And then spent 20mjns the next day contacting the pickup location. The final reply was â€œ Your contract was closed out with no additional charges. Must have been a glitchâ€. The vehicle was backed into a spot where we couldn't inspect the contents, the tank was nearly empty and the dollies we requested were not in it. I was promised it would be added when I pulled up but it wasn't. They told me I was good to go, but they meant they adjusted the bill for the lack of gas, not that they had added gas or the missing dollies. When we returned the vehicle we went in line as the signs said, but it turned out we were behind a driverless truck and nobody came out to us. The low tire pressure light came on while I was driving. I called the location to get advice and was told to bring it to a UHaul location. So I took it back, which caused me to lose 30 minutes of my scheduled rental time. The general manager, Delaney, gave me excellent service and told me that the pressure indicator wasn't like the one in a car, and to ignore it. So I appreciate her help but was inconvenienced by having to return to the location to have the equipment checked.Jonathan M.

The truck smelled of cigarettes. Had cans underneath the seat. The first gentleman who helped me inside claimed the mileage was much higher than it was. My biggest issue is the mileage was only off by two miles but the truck reeked of cigarettes. Very unsettling. Leads me to believe a employee smoked in it while parking it.Tom G.
I had a trailer hitch installed at this location and it was a frustrating experience from the beginning. I paid $50 for expedited shipping, and the part did not arrive in time for my appointment. I had to keep calling and checking on the status of the parts, and was not called even when the parts had arrived in the store. Once, I was placed on hold for 37 minutes while they "checked to see if the part was in" (yes, I hung up and called back but was placed back on hold immediately). An appointment time was finally confirmed on the day we were scheduled to leave town (6 days after my original appointment). I arranged to drop off my vehicle the night before in order to expedite the process. When I got there, I immediately had doubts as the guy who was pulling cars into the bay smelled so strongly of pot my daughter asked "why is it so stinky here?". I had also reserved a trailed pick up at 10:30, which the store assured would be just fine because my hitch would definitely be ready by then. Again, communication was incredibly poor. I called at 10:00, before heading out to pick up my vehicle, to be told my car had not been started. I called again at 11:30- still not started. At 1:00, I was told it should be done within the hour, so I packed up my kids, rounded up my husband and headed over....only to SIT for another 45 minutes!! When my vehicle was pulled out, I saw that they had cut a ragged, lopsided and uneven hole in my bumper for the hitch to go through. Whoever had cut it had obviously gotten distracted mid-cut multiple times as the line of the cut wobbled all over. If I wasn't so crunched for time (thanks Uhual!) I would have made my displeasure known then, but I was on a timeline to get on the road which was already 3 hours later than I had planned for. It was an AWFUL experience. Not a single person apologized for being so late, the owner of the store was there and she was completely oblivious to the lack of service her store had provided and the quality of work sucks. When I got to my unit there was a lock on it, I called the office as I had my hands full and they provided me with another unit(that one also had a lock on it). They set me up with a 24 hr access code. Not sure why (a person renting a unit needs more than 24 hr access). After 7 PM I was unable to open the doors. I called and let the facility staff know and they weren’t really helpful. That was very inconvenient. Luckily, some other people showed up and we were able to finish unloading the truck.
