This was supposed to be a one way rental, somehow the app turned it into a two way trip. I explained that to customer service. Toni was the only helpful one I talked to. My truck was returned Saturday night at 8:20p, our return was due at 8:30p. U-Haul proceeded to charge my husband FOUR TIMES, for 4 different amounts! And only returned 1/4 of it. Have the bank statements to prove it. The place we returned our truck to didn’t check it in until TUESDAY EVENING. Which U-Haul tried to charge over 300$ for at 10pm on the THIRD!! Absolutely ridiculous. There is no excuse. This company should have transparent, outlined lists of procedures and charges, instead of “I do not know how much you will be charged, it varies by location.” I am not mad, but I am HIGHLY disappointed. Do better.

Rented a 5x8 trailer on a local rental agreement after I picked it up my plans changed I now needed it for a one way trip which uhaul absolutely refused to switch me to claiming they can’t but one way rate is $445 plus tax after I made it to my destination and paying their outrageous fee I ended up paying $1016.90 double the one way rate. I will not use uhaul again after this unless I absolutely have to

The staff were wonderful and the storage units themselves were clean and well maintained. However, the site is run down. The security fence is broken, unit doors left open and it looks like the homeless can easily access the entire site, cut off plastic locks and use the units in storms. If the security fence was replaced and the site cleaned up, it would be a great experience.

Uhaul as a whole completely dropped the ball and failed me for my move, costing me another $600 in rent because the double booked my truck. I had to drive 66 miles round trip to get a truck 6 hours late m, causing me to miss my moving deadline. I’m pretty sure for my next household move I will go back to Penske. Thank goodness for the agent in Jefferson City who was AMAZING. Otherwise this would have been a total failure.

I spoke to a UHaul representative to set up my one-way trip (a total of 800 miles). Before I picked my truck up, I added a dolly and moving blankets onto my order. I also ran into traffic on my way to my final destination, causing me to be behind in dropping off my truck. Every single step of the way, UHaul was WONDERFUL. Each time I called, a representative was on the other end of the line ready to help and greeted me so professionally. UHaul was wonderful to work with!

We had to use a different location to pick up an appliance dolly because the Haymakers location in Macon, MO where we picked up the truck did not have the appliance dolly that we had reserved and paid for available at the time of pick up. Here's the background: My pickup experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Despite being told by Tony (a U‑Haul employee who called from 417‑887‑5832) that my rental was set up for 24/7 pickup, the app directed me to Counter Service instead. That contradiction alone caused unnecessary delay. When I finally located the truck, its condition was unacceptable. The cab was filthy—half‑empty soda bottles left behind, a sticky dried substance covering multiple surfaces, and mud caked across the floorboards. It looked as if a soda bottle had exploded inside the cab. The mess was so bad that I had to spend roughly 40 minutes cleaning it just to avoid ruining my clothes. Outside, the truck had mud packed under the bumpers, several inches up the tires, and even had an engine cover hanging loose underneath the front end. Inside the pickup location (Haymakers), I was told I “hadn’t completed the online registration,” even though I had—and the app had specifically instructed me to go inside. I was then informed that the moving blankets and appliance dolly I reserved were not available. The staff member was initially curt until she acknowledged that the issues were caused by U‑Haul’s system, not me. All told, these problems resulted in over 2.4 hours spent just trying to check out the truck, plus the additional time required to clean the interior enough to use it. We were on the schedule that resulted in us not arriving at our destination until after midnight when our scheduled arrival was 9pm. Then I received a call from Pam asking me where their appliance dolly was after I had dropped off the vehicle. She expected it to be returned in Jefferson City but it was a one way and I had received a text that it was attached to my rental. This was one of the most frustrating rental experiences I’ve had, and it fell far below the standard I expect from U‑Haul.

The storage is located behind the building which the driveway is not connected to the lot that the building sits on. Also my free lock that was listed would be inside the storage unit was not there so had to drive back to the main building for that. Otherwise everything was ok.

First was told had to return it to that location not the location we were moving too. So an automatic extra $70+ added on just having to return it to JC from Sedalia. Second we were told gas had to be at least 3/4 full ...we get in and it's under quarter tank. Another $80 just to fill it up to use. And $60+ when we returned it. Third, the transmission is slipping and alignment was way off. Difficult drive and worried it break down. Definitely was not worth the price we had to pay.

The security gate was constantly broken and stuck open where anyone could access the units. I called and left a message that I was moving out as I was instructed to do and no action was taken to close my unit. Then I went to the unit and did the close out procedures with the app. It showed it was in process. This was all before my next months rent was due. Then over a week later it has still not been closed out and was showing a late fee on my account. I then had to call and actually got a hold of someone and she said it would be taken care of but the late fee might still show but don’t worry about it. I checked and finally yesterday it appears to have been closed out. This is 2 weeks after requesting it be closed out.

I am very appreciative and grateful for the staff allowing me to rent a unit and getting the first month for free. The staff was super helpful and very accommodating. I upset the manager and I felt horrible and was very embarrassed for the inconvenience in which I caused(unexpectedly getting U-Haul truck returned late and tun in to someone elses time to rent it who had it reserved) . Which was completely unfortunate bc it was 100% accidental. However, when I needed a unit and had minimal funds to work with, U-Haul came through for me. And they were super helpful and easy to deal with when renting the truck to take my belongings from my old unit to my new one. 😊

I was told they didn’t want to auctioned my unit but when I called a man stated they were auctioning my things I couldn’t get to it on time I called and spoke to a rep told them that I was hoping to make it there before auction day. I know yall try to help me unfortunately my son got a contagious disease from daycare and I wasn’t going to drive 14 hours when I know it’s contagious he had blisters. I don’t understand at then end what happened but thank you the majority of staff members were always helpful

We were moving and not sure if we would need a storage unit or not. We had a contract for two months, paid for two months and never did have to put anything in it. Couple weeks after the contract was over we got a bill for $93 for a third month. Very annoying and unprofessional. When I called about the bill, I was told that to stop the contract that it would keep going, in spite of us saying two months only.

Everyone associated with UHaul was great, but my unit was broken into three times and I had to move units once due to the tornado. UHaul’s storage facility was great and none of my issues were due to them. Enhanced lighting and more secure security (entry/exit ) would be appreciated. Thank you!

I think the prices are a little too high even though they are climate controlled.. price increased three times since I rented the unit! Sometime the bathrooms were out of paper when needed. Other than that it was alright, could have used a little more lighting in some areas.

The instructions were not clear at all. There are actually two different locations here and it was very confusing as to where to go. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what to do. The unit had a seal on the lock and I was not sure if I was supposed to open it or not. I went to the manager for help and he was apathetic and flippant with me. I will never rent here or at another uhaul again.

I had to call to upgrade my unit before arrival because of some logistics that changed with my move and she was super helpful swapping out my reservation and making sure everything was ready to go including a backup gate code in case the original one didn't work. It was the smoothest part of my entire move and I'm so grateful for that.

There were a couple of things I noticed, first, the halls/doorways are a bit narrow, a lot of maneuvering the cart around to get around the corners and through the doorways but with some maneuvering it can be done. Also, there are signs posted that say " if you don't check out upon leaving access will be denied on your next visit." I did push the button for assistance to "check out", it was during office hours, and I could hear someone talking upstairs before I left my unit, but no one answered the call button so I'm not sure what happened there. I was not denied access the next day either so who knows why that is posted. Nice, clean facility overall, just waiting on the confirmation that I am not going to get a bill because I was moved out the day before my bill was due and have been told by two people that I would receive a confirmation email. For now, I will save the survey email I guess.

Water leaked inside the storage shed and ruined two mattresses and a box spring. Also ruined a wedding canvas that was our guest book. My fault for not getting insurance, but the unit should have been maintained to where water would not get into the unit. Would not use these units again.

The building was clean on move in. I rented the building for about three years and there was a lot of dust accumulation on my furniture in that time. Mud dabber nests were inside the unit and it looked like the roof might have leaked at one time. After the first year, rent seemed to increase about $25/month/year. I decided buying a used shipping container was cheaper in the long run

I recently last year September 2022 lost my grandmother. She was ALWAYS on time with her storage and was never late even if she wanted to be late. After going through hard times with her, a relative was supposed to be responsible for her storage and I’m assuming forgot about it. I was thinking one day “grandmas storage” called and someone told me it was up for auction. I immediately Got details from the office on how to get her storage back and they explained I could bid on it. Long story short was able to connect with the Store Manager Chandell and he was absolutely understanding and stayed connected with me to pay what I bid for and to get the name transferred over to me, etc. The amount of genuine communication but respect for this location goes a long way. Chandell, thank you for all you did to help me out. One things for sure, I’m sure you understood my importance of not losing anything that was sentimental to my Grandmother after losing her. Thanks for the 1st month of storage free as well. Thanks for your teams support as well. You guys are more than the best,

Maintenance of the inside storage not as good as when we first rented space. The autos and other things stored behind the building are becoming eyesores and make it hard sometimes to turn your vehicle around. They also make it look run down and unsafe even though it is fenced off. This is the only way to access the 2nd floor storage and should be kept up better.

I rented in Fairland Oklahoma going to Jefferson City. I got the trailer and didn't realize the lights were not working properly. When I got to Jefferson City I was told it's cheaper to keep the trailer rather than rent a storage. Apparently I was untitled to free storage for thirty day but kept paying for the trailer because I was told it was cheaper.

The staff solved the problem but I had to call because it was after office hours. So the only reason I didn't give an excellent is because of the code issues. Parking lot where l stored my Jeep was never scraped at two different times when it snowed. I called the office on two occasions to take care of the snow so l can have easy access to my Jeep; manager promised to clear snow but did not keep his promise. I had to physically come to my Jeep and cleared out the snow around it so l can go back and forth the gated parking lot. I was disappointed, hence hoping management will quickly fix this problem for future customers.

The facility and people are great. I can't say the same for the rules. I purchased some moving boxes and then didn't need them. They had never been unfolded. It was less than a week after I made the purchase and tried to return them. In the process of moving, I couldn't locate a receipt. The boxes had obviously never been used. The manager tried to look up the sale and the system didn't go back longer than a week. Really? Not acceptable. So I ended up having boxes I didn't need or use.

The staff was of a quality that I see less and less. They listened, were efficient, offered advice, walked me through the process of turning in my trailer and obtaining a storage unit. Add smiles and friendly attitude. This was a unique experience in today's world following a long adventure on a thousand miles of highway. Simply excellent.

The first guy I spoke with was new and didn’t know what he was doing. The older lady was extremely rude to me when I was in there and was extremely rude to my wife and her mother when they were having issues with the gate code not working. My storage unit also allowed rain water in and damaged multiple items and several boxes. The storage unit also had oil stains which thankfully only got on the bottom of boxes and not on any furniture. I would NEVER recommend any U-Haul based purely on the lack of customer service that I had received. You could tell that the employees hated their jobs. Sad.

I gave a “below average” rating because the access gate was broken during my first visit to my locker. That should never happen. The gate should be periodically serviced, tested and well maintained in order for customers to access their belongings.

Gates and doors where constantly broke and left open. Seriously there is a spider problem at this location. I got my property out as soon as I could. Would have rented for much longer but felt very unsecure.

My answers to this survey apply only to my 5x5' climate-controlled storage unit (#2320). I had a 10x20' non-climate-controlled unit (#162) rented through this same U-Haul location, and discovered yesterday when emptying both units that in unit #162, i had water-damaged furniture & boxes of household items. Fortunately, i had elected to have insurance through U-Haul on the contents in this unit & will be making contact today.

I first made my reservation online and when I went to pick up a lock and paperwork, I was not in the system. Then it took about an hour in the office to make a new reservation in person. I was then told my code for the gate would not work for 24hrs. So, I had to come back the next weekend. When I pulled up to the gate, the code did not work, the intercom button did not work, so I had to call. They again, could not find me in the system. Even though I had all of my paperwork.... I was asked to come up to the main office. Took another 20 minutes to make another, new reservation. I never got an apology or anything. Very poor customer service.

There was a definite process to access my unit but no email was sent to me to explain that when I set it up online. I was supposed to access a particular driveway and put codes in at certain places. Luckily it was during open hours and an attendant was there or I would not have been able to get in. A map of the units and instructions was necessary.

Excellent facility, friendly helpful staff. Clean storage area with a much appreciated bathroom available. A dumpster in the storage area would have been nice to have access to. I would only rent from this facility in Jefferson city. Other facility staff in the Jefferson city area were not as friendly or helpful.

Below POOR!!!! Manager Chandell lied about 24/7 max security property with camera surveillance as the camera system where I was put "was not working." Homeless people walked the property freely living in their units their presence acknowledged by Chandell, office staff and maintenance!! Entire staff also knowingly acknowlwdge MANY issues with locks AFTER my unit was robbed!! Maintenance claimed they checked doors nightly. Never saw maintenance on prperty. I was not give the U-Haul required lease agreement that would have provided insurance for my stolen belongings but insted moved in under an old driver licence with no signatures which denied my claim with Republic Western by representitive (John) even before the police report was made availabe. Becky Hall claimed to look into my situation and lied about calling me back claiming she had written down a wrong number! Which would have been availabe had the proper lease agreement been provided! Family heirlooms, safe full of legal and financial documents as well as MANY personal items GONE!! Shame on you U-Haul of Jefferson City Missouri off Ellis Blvd!! Further action being taken as NOT one UHaul representive has stepped up to the plate as a result of this!!
