The owner of the auto shop wasn't very helpful at all, he kept saying if you need any work done to your car to go there. He didn't explain or didn't do a walk around. He didn't explain anything to us about dropping the uhaul off and where to put the key. Better yet he told us to put it on the desk, but he was closed. We dropped the key off Saturday and he messaged Monday morning accusing us of not dropping it off. I will never deal with him again, that was the worst experience I've ever had!
Dustin C.I have a multitude of complaints about my recent experience with UHaul for this reservation and order #, but much of my bad experience had nothing whatsoever to do with the pickup location. As for the pickup location, the equipment/van was a very good van and well-maintained mechanically, but dirty cab interior & inside side of the windshield. Had to wait almost an hour for a 'guaranteed reservation time', and then the location UHaul agent took off in a truck down the driveway and gone, once he handed me a bogus contract to sign and the keys. Never had a chance for a walkaround to check the condition of the van, and was left standing at the counter without a valid copy of the contract. (I had to scratch out not-agreed-upon terms and scribble in the terms I had agreed to -- and initialled each change too. Said he would give me a photocopy of this new scrawled-upon contract, but left via the back door instead and drove away.) And this was AFTER several online changes by UHaul to my quoted contract that I agreed to, with vague assurances by various UHaul call centre agents both in the US and in Canada that "You will be given the best deal at the end of your rental when you bring back the van. Don't worry." Well, according to the contract shoved under my nose at the pickup location, I was going to end up with a total of over $1300 for a 7-day rental, as opposed to the quote for less than half that amount I agreed to, upon reserving. After SEVERAL HOURS OVER 2-3 DAYS on the telephone to many, many UHaul agents, I finally found one agent (Vlad Mihaescu out of UHaul Guelph's call centre) who wrote me up the correct contract and e-mailed it to me AFTER PICKUP OF MY VAN. Although yes, it does state in the new contracts under 'Pickup and Van Best Rate Guarantee:' that "At the end of your rental we will calculate the best deal for you." nonetheless IT IS A CONTRACT YOU ARE SIGNING. And if the contract you sign says that you are agreeing to pay $19.95/day and $.59/km, then if you are taking the vehicle for 7 days and expect to put more than 1000 km on it, you are NOT getting the weekly deal AT ALL, if they hold you to what you've actually signed. I advise anyone using UHaul these days to take screenshot after screenshot of each step of your reservation, quote, and final reservation agreement. Mine stated the weekly rate of $330 including 999 free kms which then morphed into the $19.95/day $.59/km contract I was expected to sign. Well, after scratching out those terms, I scribbled in the original agreement and then signed it. Took a photo of that too before handing it to the counter agent. Took a photo of the dashboard also before driving out of the location, showing fuel level & kms already documented. Another photo of the dash when I brought the van back in, within business hours to avoid the $20 penalty for after hours dropoff. Ended up with my original quote honoured after all those phone calls specifically describing my screenshots, except that they charged GST on the km amount too, which seems a little excessive imo. I have rented through UHaul many, many times over the years and have NEVER seen this much complexity before in a simple van rental!! I ended up with 14 pages of contract receipts in the end also!!! 14 pages!!! All I can say is what the ??????!!!
Maureen M.Popular Auto needs to be removed from the UHaul organization. They were reluctant to accept my return. They were uncooperative, stubborn, confrontational and totally unacceptable.
Steve R.The experience was all good until I checked my e-receipt and if not mistaken I was charged for using my visa (the only way I was lead to believe) for the transaction. $18+ dollars is as dang step change folks. If I'm wrong I'd appreciate some clarification.
